Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
That's not a bad set at all. I'd love to see The Grudge, Pushit, Parabol and Parabola live first hand. But, honestly any set that's played will be fine with me. I do agree with Dr. Funkmaster though, in the aspect that I'd like to see at least one song from every album.

There were those shows in July and August (2002) where Maynard's voice was fucked up and he struggled through it but the last few months of the tour (2002) he nailed it. Maynard's voice is always fluctuating...he's either spot on or struggling. Hopefully this minitour will have him being spot on and not holding back, i.e. "Flood" back in 2007 when he basically talked the "ground breaks down right under me..." part.

So what if there are songs that Maynard can't sing exactly the same way as he did on an album? I mean, Aenima is already 13 years old, Lateralus 8 years. He can sing anything he wants to sing with proper adjustments. For example, listen to the last verse of 46 & 2 from live shows in 2006/2007. He probably cannot reach the higher notes like he could when the album was recorded, so he sings lower notes that are still in the key and it sounds fine.
My point is, saying that "he can't sing (x song) like he did on the album" is fine, but to say "he can't sing (x song) anymore" doesn't make any sense.

Guys, check this out. As many of you know, Faith No More is touring Europe this summer. Their first leg ends on July 5th, and their second leg doesn't pick up again until August 8th. Now I don't know anything for sure, but we all know that Mike Patton and Maynard are close friends. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm............................

I think FTM/Tool combo would be pretty legit. much better than Melt Banana from a few years ago.

I'll give props to Tool for bringing along a different kind of band, but their assault on my ears was one of the worst live band experiences of my life lol.

I worded it wrong completely. He can sing the song but he's not going to because it puts too much of a strain on his vocal cords.

Alex Lifeson of Rush talking about the songs that influenced him the most:
“THIRD EYE”
Tool
Ćnima (1996)
“Adam Jones is a fabulous guitarist and songwriter, and Tool are such a powerful band. You know it’s Tool when you hear them, because they’re intensely dynamic, yet heavy, even when they’re playing is light. I listened to this album over and over; I don’t do that very often. Tool have an interesting, intelligent approach to song construction and lyrics. It’s just too bad we don’t hear from them more often.”
"Yeah Tool is fucking amazing. But there’s a big chunk of their fan base that think they’ve become thought provoking geniuses just from listening to them."

Sorry dude, but it aint gonna happen.
the ONLY day that New Orleans could possibly work is July 26th, because any other day would require the trucks to backtrack 500+ miles in the wrong direction.
If they did a show July 26th that would make 4 straight nights with a show, which I believe Tool virtually never does.
So, stop wasting time waiting for something that won't be announced and make it to SA, Dallas or Atlanta.
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
So when I went to The Offspring show at the nokia theatre in dallas they had a really poor showing(place was about half empty). They had drapes up in the crowd on the sides to make it "feel" like there were more people. Also the stage had curtains that were slightly drawn so there were some parts of the stage that were covered(a little bit on either side) For Offspring I had pit tickets, but I wanted to see the vantage point that I would have for Tool so I walked over to those seats which are completely to one side (faceing the stage from the crowd its all the way to the right, Justin's side) I couldnt see SHIT mainly because of the curtains. My question is .... FINALLY ..... Do you think they will have the stage completely uncovered with no curtains since the show is sold out? Or am I going to have a fucked up obstructed view? How was it at the Nokia theatre in LA ? Curtains? Could you see from the far right or left?? Junior if you could weigh in on this that would be great!!!

You never nay'ed my previous suggestions of the newly renovated/opened Fox Theatre in Pomona (by both the Metrolink "tracks" and the Stock/Funny/Drag car "track" , Citizens Bank Arena in Ontario or Glen Helen Pavilion in Devore (both by the Fontana Speedway "track").
:)
By the way, thanks for providing all the info you do. You actually give us more "tool-related" info than Blair does on the official site.

I believe he did nay-say Glen Helen Pavilion in Devore. The other two, I don't believe he commented upon, but he definitely rejected Devore.

I find that very easy to believe.
Rush's lighting designer, Howard (who also runs the laser company that Tool uses) told me that it is quite common to hear Alex blasting Tool at his house when he goes over there.
Alex attended a show in Toronto on the Lateralus tour in 2001 at the Air Canada Centre. He wanted to watch some of the show from the sound and lighting area and Howard asked me if that would be OK (like i was going to say "no"?). After the show I got to escort him back to meet the band. Definitely a rockstar moment. The aftershow passes were using the Toronto airport code as their marking that night. It was kind of surreal to see Alex with a Tool aftershow pass stamped "YYZ".

I've been to the Nokia in Dallas when the seats were curtained off and when the stage was curtained off.
I can't see any reason why the stage would be curtained for the Tool show. I would expect it to be wide open.

O!o! Ohio!! It would be so awesome to get the vibes around here again.
Also, would you, Hodge, happen to have a reference for this particular interview?

Cool story. Lifeson always came across as being a nice guy. Are the guys in Tool fans of Rush? That must have been cool to meet him.

I know at least some of the members of Tool are fans of Rush. I don't know if they all are.
I've been a fan for quite some time, so I was pretty happy to meet him.

Predictions:
1) Missing tour dates will be announced by Monday. (Two months ahead of date is standard from previous tours.)
2) They close every show of this tour with Lateralus. (It is a natural closer. It seemed they wanted to close with it last tour but couldn't because they were touring the 10,000 Days album. Also they have said it is the song of which they are most proud.)

Me too. (at least the first 8 albums or so) I almost got to meet Alex (Živojinović) once, my friends said he was pretty chill and low key.
I would really like to sit down with Lee and Peart, if anytyhing to talk about Caress of Steel.
