I wouldn't be suprised if this towelie dude is someone associated with the band Counterfist... he didn't care if he got flamed or not, he just wanted to get the music out there for exposure... lame tactic, but i can't blame him for making an effort..... Come to think of, I also have a recording that might be tool if guys want to listen.. I'm playing bass in it, but hey, it still just might be tool... PM if you want to hear it..

I dont understand why people are knocking others for simply listening to the decoy. I want to hear it as well, just to see what was leaked intentionally.

Sorry Grizz441 for the temper. I was out watching baseball last night with friends and came back to see my ass on fire. I deserve it. And, you didn't flame at all really.
Thanks you guys. There was no lying or bullshitting from me. I seriously got taken with this prank. They or someone obviously renamed their tracks and put them up on Usenet as 10,000 days about a month back. I'm not associated with the band, I promise. I repeat, I have never heard about these guys before now. If I did, the last thing I would do it throw their name out on this forum. I see now after looking them up that they are from Seattle.
Their music isn't bad at all. I'd actually buy it if they didn't make me look like a asshole.
I did think it was Tool, maybe out-takes or unfinished songs that didn't cut it. I appreciate helping out because a couple friends and I were scratching our heads wondering what exactly we had. I should have checked the ID tag closely.
I'm going to remove the link and the zip file. Apologies it took you guys a while to download. My server is a small machine that wasn't built for much workload.

The only idiot here is me. Flame me, not everyone else.
I don't mind being a fool because I learned something. I now understand with good probability that no decoy exists and the theory of a decoy was fostered by a few blog posts here and there coupled by this prank of uploaded songs.
Combine this with what deuceman stated about the actual leak and the confusion made the whole situation blurry for some. Others figured it out fairly quickly.
I made the mistake of not carefully inspecting the mp3 ID tags. So, my bad and I'm sorry (but very thankful) for the time spent by others. It would have been smart of me just to put one track up instead of the whole set.
Believe me, I put myself in the time-out chair with the dunce cap on and am slugging myself in the balls. Feel free to pile on.
Why is there so much venom by some individuals on here? Dang mang.

I agree. It's so much better than what's coming out of Seattle currently (read "Emo") other than the leftover Grunge artists: mainly Pearl Jam, AIC (and Jerry Cantrell), The Melvins (I think they're still kickin' it; they better be), and Mudhoney.

I'm listening to "Drown" by that band and it reminds me a bit of "Parabola" for some reason before the vocals kick in. Other than that, it sounds a bit like some random Filter song, like "Hey, Man, Nice Shot."

Sorry to bump this post. But, I wanted to thank Deuceman and Paradigm for the help. Picture this Towel driving around for a month with this music going, "yeah man, this decoy Tool is pretty rocking dude!"
LOL. I had to just laugh today upon reflection. My friends are calling it "Towelie Tool".
Anyway, from here, I hope this thread falls deeeeep into obscurity. Heh. Owned!

Well I for one am sick of it, lets get things straight.
In the buildup to the release of Lateralus a little known site for the sharing and downloading of illegal music was formed called "Napster". Many people in the music industry were brickin' it trying to stop the sharing of illegal music due to concerns of media bankruptsy...and Tool was angry too.
So...Tool decided to trick the Napster downloaders by releasing the fake album title "Systema Encelphale".
Long story short, they protected themselves from Napster and also proved a point by pissing off the downloaders.
But with "10,000 Days" there was no problem about titles, artwork, or date, or anything for that matter. The fact that people are still in believe of a fake album being in our hands after 1 month of it being available are fools.
If anything you time wasters should be looking onward to the 6th of June when the dvd for "vicarious" is apparently being released complete with video for "10,000 days" and 4 live tracks!
Sorry for the rant but "think for yourself"

I believe this is taken from a thread in the live and unreleased forums....
"ok...distiortiononline talks about this rumor going around, im not hearing much talk about it...so is this rumor completely fake?
vicarious video
wings & 10k days video
4 live songs (3 from 2002 and 1 from 2006)"
Thats all I know, but nevertheless sounds awesome.

Just to clarify, I was out watching baseball and had good amount to drink and smoke. I came back on here to see what people made out of those tracks and how my server was doing. I'm not drinking and driving on this forum again after that night.

You're right; that does sound like I've know about these guys before. But, what I meant in that post is that I'm surprised how a band can technically perform that well to make me and a few friends think it could be Tool. Scratch "come" and put in "done".
In fact, I had one friend who actually got depressed. He said, "if this is the new Tool, I am so disappointed in them. How can they go from Lateralus to this." He was not talking about the sound. He was talking about the content.
When 10,000 Days came out, he was the first one to call and say, "ha-ha, dork."
Even with that, I still had a suspicion that it might be some demos, cut-outs or something to do with Tool.
I read this on blogcritics.org and fell for it:
Quote:

This took, oh, about a year, just because the band members wanted it to sound pretty close to the real thing (so as to be believable), along with equally believable art design. When they weren't working on this grand deception, there were other pleasant distractions" ... "And then try to imagine what when on in the studio itself (this time while recording the real CD)." end of excerpt
|
And, you know what the stupid thing is? All I had to do was look up a few posts from that one to see the link Deuceman pointed out earlier in this thread. In fact, if I wasn't on The Pot and did just a little more investigating, I could have saved myself and others confusion and time.
Although thankful I know it's not Tool (my friends thank you as well), fuck those dudes. I don't know who uploaded that stuff. If it was them or their fans, who knows. I'm a bit pissed of at whoever did that prank. I got owned. My friends let me have it. You guys let me have it. I missed the obvious. Live and learn.
Idiot yes. Liar no.
Please don't call me out on this thread anymore. Just let it die, please. I so don't want to be on the radar anymore. Heh

Just to clarify, I was out watching baseball and had good amount to drink and smoke. I came back on here to see what people made out of those tracks and how my server was doing. I'm not drinking and driving on this forum again after that night.

Are you serious? Because if true, I'd be surprised how well they've come technically.

Heh
