Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
I suppose a possible Tool show at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine wouldn't be far fetched for an off the beaten track L.A. show. That actually would be pretty sick..Tool in the O.C.
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
so are some these dates outdoor venues besides the obvious festivals and doesnt that scew with your lights junior?

I've said it before: I'm no fan of doing outdoor shows.
It looks like only a couple of them, so far.
If all the stars line up, it's possible to have a good experience outdoors. I just find that to be rare.
Some people prefer the sound outdoors. Some people just prefer BEING outdoors.
Everyone has different criteria for what they want out of a show.
From my particular perspective, I don't like doing Tool shows outdoors.
Even if the show itself ends up being good, there are so many things that need to be done between load in and show time that go so much better with controlled atmosphere. Sunlight, rain, and wind tend to sh*t all over that. The video guys have a harder time with that than I do.

I think they may have played Irvine back in the day (92, 93 or 94) as part of the Lolla tour, not positive though.

ok guys out of those 3 which one should i go to i live in kansas city missouri thanks
I'd bite the bullet and go for the Dallas show at the Nokia on July 25. Great venue, shorter drive.
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
What about the Gwinnett Center in Duluth GA? That date is open and they have played there before.
Also, there are seven days of a Jehovah Witness convention earlier in July. What a great show to end the convention with!
Great show but Maynard seemed a little distant. Going back and listening to the bootleg, it seems like he had less energy that show vs. some of the others.

In that case I would see the possibility of a show on the 26th somewhere between Dallas and Atlanta. I'm not basing this on anything other than speculation. The Atlanta show could still be on the 27th in a different venue (like Lakewood) which would shoot that full of holes.
New Orleans! the boys seem fond of UNO. A nice small arena...

(off-topic) This could very well be true. I was the NINJA show in Austin, TX and it seemed like a majority of the crowd was there for JA. There was a strong response to NIN, but not anything like the NIN shows I went to last year. The crowd was tame, they talked almost the entire time and no one seemed to be dancing or singing along (then again it is Austin.) But when JA came out they blew the roof off the place. Makes me wonder if Trent regrets taking the opening slot.

They are rotating the opening slot. Even the NIN fans I talked to were bummed on the setlist and the "hey our lightshow is going to blow you away" feeling they got from Trent and the band. Kind of strange for a farewell tour...

I'm seeing them on Friday for the first time. IF THIS IS TRUE...hopefully it ain't like Tool in Reno...

Hmm, very good guess. My guess is the Santa Barbara Bowl. Mars Volta played there a while back. Definitely a long shot since it's so small but it's beautiful up there.

As far as people leaving after NIN, I can only judge on the one show I went to, but more seats became filled after NIN played. I'm not sure if this was because NIN played so early (hit the stage at 7:45) and most people expected to be able to show up at 9:00 or what. But I would say there was a larger fanbase for JA than NIN at that show. It's a great show, though. Definitely not one to miss. Three great bands in one night.

I think the lifetime ban from Santa Barbara County is still in effect from the last appearance (1998) at the Bowl.

I saw NIN in Vegas last December and it was an awesome show with great visuals. I'm seeing them in Indy in about a week at an outdoor amphitheater and it doesn't get dark here until about 10PM.
I am bummed about the lighting being compromised by the stupid sun.

I know this is still off-topic, but since others are still actively discussing it...
I'm also pretty disappointed by the high ticket prices and the fact that JA is on the bill at all (no offense, JA fans). What I can't wrap my head around, though, is people coming home from the shows exasperated by the setlists, the lineup (NIN playing first) and the minimal lighting. I've read a bunch of reviews where people felt cheated because Closer wasn't played and the lights were lame. Trent announced this months and months ago! Stripped-down tour, minimal lights, varied and obscure setlist. A true fan's wetdream, a casual fan's nightmare.
I intend on thoroughly enjoying the two shows I'm hitting. Maybe I'll even make it all the way through Jane's set.

I had heard a rumor about them being banned, but no details. Even tried to look it up but no luck. Did they play past 10 or what happened? Speaking of the Bowl, going to see NINJA there tonight. show starts at 5:30 because of the noise ordinance.
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
pumped there is a ATL date. I moved here from CO for 8 months or so to be with my gf when she finishes school... i had allready bought a ticket to mile high so I could go back to denver to see my friends and listen to tool. now i get the pleasure of seeing them twice this summer! hell yeah!
saw NIN in ATL a while ago and it was great. if you like NIN that is... if you are just there for a light show dont bother. the light show is minimal. go to see these shows if you like their music because they are playing mainly old tracks from their pre 2000 material... if only tool does the same haha but i highly highly doubt it.

I've never been a JA fan. I went to the show last week knowing that I'd love whatever NIN did and out of curiosity and because my friend wanted to, I'd check out some of JA.
For my tatse, they were plain awful. Like a high school band. And sounded all the more rediculous after NIN's set. That's just my take and I admittedly never liked JA to begin with.

This makes sense to me - the feedback I was hearing was probably from JA fans (like myself.)

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
We ended up leaving the San Diego NINJA show after just a few JA songs as well. I guess it's my own fault for not doing due dilligence when buying the tickets. I don't invest nearly as much time dealing with non-Tool shows. We assumed that JA would play first, because we all couldn't fathom that there'd actually be any demand to see JA close the show out. The people in our section seemed to agree. The lack of stage effects from the Lights in the Sky tour was just an added kick in the balls. The setlist was great imho though...

Yeah the source we've been using from TA has been pretty reliable and she originally posted it was definitely the 28th this morning. She just recently posted an update though. According to her source TOOL was under the impression the show really was on the 27th at Verizon, so they're figuring out what to do as we speak.

I can hear the radio promos now:
"Get ready Atlanta for the return of Tool, 7/27 or 7/28 at the Verizon Ampitheater or quite possibly Lakewood. Tix may or may not be onsale 5/30. Brought to you by Livenation. "

I think they were asked to turn it down during the set but instead turned it up and the mayor threw a fizzy So Cal fit.

Hopefully they haven't double-booked: though, from what I can deduce about the current tour dates, this is unlikely...

I'm with you, man. Not gonna miss Tool this time around. If nothing further is announced by May 29, Phoenix it is. See you there. But dammit, how could they pass up the west coast and northwest? hope those "more to come" dates come soon, ideally with the tour coming to the west after lollapalooza
