If you know the lyrics sing um....its part of the whole concert experience and if someone wants to do that to have a better time with the show i see nothing wrong with it...generally the music is so much louder any ways it never really bugs me

The issue is a matter of respect for those around you, nobody paid money to hear you sing.

I hate when I hear people singing around me also. It's annoying.

I'll have you both know I have a lovely voice, thank you very much. You should be so lucky to sit next to me at a Tool show. It's like Maynard x2. Double your money's worth! (j/k... kind of)
If Tool play at Coachella, I will be good for a least a round of beers for the folks from this forum I run into. And heck, even if they don't play in '13 I am good for it. Only problem is once I am there, all plans seem to fall by the wayside. That place is so damn much fun.

"Respect" being the key word. If you want to scream obnoxiously off-key, do it after the song with everybody else.

I would much rather hear someone sing loudly and off-key with a little passion than listen to someone babble on about work, their girlfriend, personal crap, etc. I get a lot more of the latter happening these days and it drives me nuts. One of the Tool shows at Nokia was damn near ruined for me by the two twits to the right of me who could not shut up for even a country, fukin minute! Couple of Casanovas those two- at least according to how they described their prowess over women... loudly... during Wings.

I agree with this so fucking much. Someone who is into the show makes it a positive experience, even with slightly annoying off-key singing with it.

I also agree wholeheartedly. I recently saw Radiohead and most of the show, the crowd around us was talking. WTF? I certainly didn't pay to hear what some dumb chick did when she was drunk at a party. If they were all singing along, I wouldn't have been mad at all.

I found myself in Phoenix (it was 115) with some time to kill, so I wandered up the mountain to Jerome..
I went a little crazy in the store and bought a MJK autographed Puscifer box set:
https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...type=3&theater
I visited the Puscifer store and hit the Caduceus tasting room. It was trippy to be around all these peeps who work for and interact MJK on a regular basis.
The tasting room was really cool, I did a Caduceus flight and it was generous and well poured.
I was little hesitant after reading YELP reviews but my experience was very good, I had a stinky cheese and olive plate that went great with the wine.
One cool thing I noticed was an obscure Bay Area beer in the cooler (Buffalo Bill) an when I asked about they said Maynard loved it and they keep it on hand for him.

Re: General Tool Discussion

Ok I added the Box Set pic to the main album. So that should be fixed (thanks for the heads up)

with a 120 minute max, what would your tool setlist be? Also count time for interludes.

What a task fr that kid. PJ probably has 5 times the songs to choose from vs Tool.

i heard that tool played here at my local venue several years ago but got fined for playing well after 10pm and havent been allowed back. a mutual "fuck off" so far as i can tell. we did get an appearance in '09, but not what youd expect. no tickets, no songs, no setlist, no posters, no pictures, no questions, no comments...nothing allowed that had anything to do with tool, or music, or anything else for that matter, but at this point youd figure hes heard it all and is well past sick of hearing it. i guess selling bottles of wine for $20 a pop beats out album sales and could almost match the revenue of a live show at the end of the tax year. they say that people will buy and pay more for a bottle based on its label. and chupacabra has the coolest label ive seen on a wine bottle. i saw the picture from down the aisle and knew that it was his.
*cheers*

Dont quote me on this, but I am fairly certain that maynard makes next to nothing (or just barely breaks even) for both Puscifer and his wine project. Tool is still the primary/sole source of income.

A CoSMic Improvisation with Stick Men.
Friday, August 17th 2012 8 - 10:30pm
Join legendary musicians Tony Levin, Pat Mastelotto and Marcus Reuter as they ride the current of musical creation within the walls of CoSM. Combining acoustic, digital and cutting edge technology they will take the audience on a journey through sound, creating a once in a lifetime musical experience.
Stick Men presents Tony Levin's virtuosic playing on the Chapman Stick, with Pat Mastelotto giving his unique progressive drumming on both acoustic and electronic drums. Markus Reuter rounds out the band, playing his self-designed touch style guitar. A progressive band created from musicians with extensive experience playing together. Pat Mastelotto and Tony Levin are the rhythm section of the legendary band King Crimson.
The evening will conclude with a Q and A with the band.
Tony Levin: Born in Boston, Tony Levin started out in Classical music, playing bass in the Rochester Philharmonic. Then moving into jazz and rock, he has recorded with John Lennon, Pink Floyd, Yes, Alice Cooper, and many more. He has also released 5 solo CDs and three books over his career. In addition to embarking on recording and touring with Stick Men, he is currently a member of King Crimson and of the Peter Gabriel Band.
Pat Mastelotto is a self taught drummer from Northern California, who has also been involved with pushing the envelope of electronic drumming. Pat has spent a lifetime jumping genres from pop, to prog, to electronica to world music with – among others – Mr. Mister, XTC, David Sylvian, The Rembrandts, KimmovPohjonen, and for the last 15 years with King Crimson.
Markus Reuter: Markus is a composer, guitarist, and producer. Initially trained as a pianist, he subsequently studied Robert Fripp's Guitar Craft and learned to play the Chapman Stick, later moving onto the U8 Touch Guitar which he co-designed with luthier Ed Reynolds. Reuter is a core member of the experimental band Centrozoon, is half of the duo Tuner and was also a member of Europa String Choir.

im pretty sure artist make next to nothing on album sales. probably even less off itunes. touring with tool is definitely where the money is.
that wine is going for $20 a bottle and is typically bought by the six-pack. And its being bought by people that dont even know who or what tool is. its gotta be bringing in a decent revenue.

My wife and I saw Puscifer in Prescott a few weeks back. It really left a sour taste in my mouth. Besides being classist and frankly, not funny, Maynard made a comment during the intro about teachers being little more than babysitters. My wife is a teacher, we flew down from Alaska, in part, to see his band. Teachers are not babysitters, and he knows it. Anyways, she got into it a bit with him on Twitter, and Maynard didn't really clear up what he meant. The whole thing pretty much sucked. Did Maynard make similar comments at other Puscifer shows? Drove up to Jerome the next day on the way to Flagstaff, but didn't stop in at his place(s) because we were so angry. And I was pretty thirsty.

I wouldn't consider Maynard's preshow Puscifer monologue "off the cuff," it's a memorized and rehearsed portion of the show.

That stinks, that is a long, long ways to go to see a show. Hopefully the show itself was good.
I wonder if he meant that teachers have less power in the classroom and influence over their students than in past decades(?)
Sadly, in many cases high school really is daycare for teenagers.
I have a huge amount of respect for teachers, they work harder than most know. The energy that is required is amazing.

No offense intended, but your wife -really- needs to calm the fuck down. smoke a joint and enjoy the damn show.
For what it's worth, he did not make that comment for any of the three shows I attended this tour.
And lastly, it's not like his comment is too far from the truth in some cases.
Massive over-reaction IMO.

I was at the show and I interpreted that comment as more of a slight toward parents and their lack of actual parenting.
