"Trip hop" is a term used to generalize a certain style of electronic music. The name came from the connection to hip hop. Trippy hip hop. But a good deal of the genre is not very similar to hip hop. It basically takes the same style beats / rhythms, makes them cool and subtler, and can be combined with guitars, keyboards, vocals, whatever you want. So it's a pretty broad genre.
Tricky was never a member of Massive Attack, but a featured rapper on Blue Lines and Protection.
"Technically speaking, this is not hip hop music. This is not rap, poetry, or R&B... To some, this is nothing at all."
I know he was a member of massive attack, I read that etc... But what's he got to do with it? Sorry for not making myself clear, was rather tired then
ah ok, i see. I don't think there isn't a huge significance why they chose Tricky. They are just friends, Tricky opened for Tool in october-november 2001 (after that tour the Parabola-video was made).
OK wicked... There are people out there who aren't so bloated witht their own egotistical knowledge about Tool that they have to flame the ones that are still learning :-)
Wasn't tricky in Prodigy? Oh damn, I'm getting old...having flashbacks of prodigy...
The dude in the video also looks like Mos Def. He's been in a few legit movies, I was pleasantly surprised. Monster's Ball and some recent HBO movie about heart surgery which shall remain nameless due to me forgetting.
I liked his rap stylings on Chapelle show too. But it is Tricky in the video, right? I never confirmed it...

Sure, I might offend a few of the bluenoses with my cocky stride and musky odors -- oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called "City Fathers" who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards, and talk about "What's to be done with this Andy DV?"
Tricky wasn't in the Prodigy, I think you're confusing Tricky with Maxim, he's the rapper or whaterever you want to call it in the Prodigy. But the guy in the video IS Tricky.
