Paramount in Oakland was the biggest disappointment (I must add that no shows were anywhere near a disappointment overall, whatsoever.
Marysville actually sounded great being outdoors. It was hot outside and I brought my little sister to show her what my lifelong obsession--I mean enjoyment--of this band was all about. Half time Opiate rocked I recall, but nothing too unique at this one aside from that, but they still gave us what we came for.
SF takes the cake! Come on back fellas!!!!!!!
Paramount was a bit of a let down- it sold out quick, but it still was great! If I remember, that show was like the 2nd day after the release of 10Kdays after playing Seattle. I happened to get the very very back row at the top, but still was good. Not the greatest sound but.....
Marysville was really good- for being out side and all. I was shooting a film in Santa Cruz at the time, as a 1st AD, but since that was around my B-day and friends already got me tickets- managed to get all the set-up done before heading out for the show (only to return the next day to continue my job). I remember the Pot sounded excellent and the Laser light shows were simply E.P.I.C.- the lasers went on into the night sky for what seemed like forever.
I missed SF, but happened to get the New Orleans show that came on about a month before SF- and that was also great! The light show was bright and full, a total complement to the sound. Being in the first row in the balcony directly in front of the stage was simply the best seating in the house IMO, full view of the stage set up, and projections, with the lasers going UNDER YOU and ABOVE- made me feel connected to the experience.
BTW: you can find a great boot of that SF show- someone epic recored it on some good equip some-how and it is 4 star. Props to who ever you are. I really tried to get my friend to go to that show since it was like 10 years or so since they played in SF- normally just Oakland/Berkley. Oh, and I heard they played in Santa Cruz once... Really?!?

alright guys, i need some input. I live in SoCal but I am taking a road trip at some point this summer up north as far as to Washington, and we were going to plan that trip around a Tool show. Even if its only in Oregon or NorCal, we still would plan to see it on the way. Anyway, so far there are obviously no northwest or west coast dates. If it remains this way by may 29, should I just get tickets to Phoenix or should i take my chances with a West Coast show (which I would much rather go to, just for the sake of it fitting into my trip)?

In my humble opinion, get your Phoenix tickets- if the West Coast does open up- you can always get those tix then sell your Phoenix tixs to someone down there. ;^P

Any rate enjoy your tripp!
Thanks dude, I appreciate it. I suppose that is definitely the best option.

OK, this whole Atlanta thang is getting ridiculous now. Obviously they are not playing at the verizon on the 27th with mraz, tabernacle doesn't have anything scheduled for the 27th, the 28th has dream theatre. I am going to the one in atlanta supposing there is a concert there. id love to make it to dallas seeing as how atlanta and dallas are about the same distance away from my house, but i was working when the tix sold out sooo, all i can do is hope for atlanta show to materialize soon.

I was listening to Reflection from this bootleg...who's the "hip-hop dude" in this song? It is really some form of tribal chanting, but my first impression was that of a hip-hop singer.

Adrian Thaws, who goes by the stage name "Tricky".

Seeing as how this isn't the 10,000 days tour anymore, I really don't think that the setlist will be the same is it was, for the most part, in 2006/2007. Wings will probably be dropped, making a lot of room for other songs.

Me too. The way this tour is being put together and announced seems...sloppy. I'll bet the show will be less than 90 minutes long with a couple of openers and more "noodling". The show will be stripped down; no lasers ect and the set list will consist of songs that will not harm MJK delicate vocal chords. (Hooker? Out. 3rd Eye? Out. Grudge? Out.) I could be wrong. We'll see.

I assume you're just pulling all of this shit out of your ass. The members of the band probably have absolutely nothing to do with the planning, scheduling and announcing of the tour. So the tour date drama has nothing to do with how they're going to perform. Also, Justin said in Rolling Stone that they are going to "rework some old stuff and maybe throw in a few covers. Fans can expect an intense multimedia show similar to the last tour."
We have no clue what this tour is going to be. We don't know if it's going to be the 10,000 days tour part 2 or whether it's going to be like a brand new tour. So can we please stop making these ridiculous assumptions? I bet they only play 3 songs, they'll be wearing night vision goggles so they don't need lighting (Sorry Junior!), maynard won't use a microphone, danny will only have a snare and a tambourine and Adam and Justin will be playing on 100 dollar beginner practice guitars and amps.

Right In Two is pretty bad ass live. I know I saw 4 degrees a few times back in 01 and 02, I just wish I could remember it better lol. Def hope most of these shows feature a song from Opiate.

I haven't listened to that particular bootleg, but it could also have been Hawkman, a member of Tricky's band. He made a few appearances during that tour, too.

"Maybe" was a key word in that quote from Justin. If he said "...maybe throw in a few covers...", I would take it as just a maybe. I'm just trying to do some preventative damage control so it doesn't turn into a "they said they were going to do covers. WHERE ARE THEY???!!!!" kind of a thing.
I hope they do, but there's just no way of knowing yet.

I think LiveNation might have jumped the gun on that one. As of yesterday that gig still wasn't finalized, and I don't know if it is yet. That's not to say it won't happen; my guess is that it probably will.
I'm just saying use caution with any show that hasn't been officially announced.
There are still some logistics being figured out for that week of the 2nd through the 8th, but it's getting close.
As much as people like to give Blair grief about not being on top of these tour dates, he is posting them as soon as he is told they are official, and not a moment sooner.

Hey dickwad, it's my opinion and I said "we'll see". Now why don't you show us all where you got all your information about the band having nothing at all to do with organizing this tour. If you can't, I guess you're just pulling this shit outta your ass.
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
junior, I've been curious about a couple of things.
First I want to say that I've done a wee bit of sound tech work, and I know it felt like things came together at the last possible second sometimes. The lighting crew who I've worked alongside with a few times never had to do intense multimedia setups or anything. They usually wired lights on trusses and around the stage and had a pretty simple console for lighting effects.
My first question would be: Seeing how Tool has a relatively complex multimedia/light show, does it put a strain on you and your team knowing that the tour will start in only 7 weeks? I mean, from what I've heard you say, you'll be working with some people who haven't done Tool shows before. Does Tool 'work' with you so to speak to help decide how the lights should work for particular songs, or is everything already programmed ahead of time to where you only need to know a few cues?
I can't help but wonder if the longer it takes for you to know the logistics and set up of this tour, the more the Tool collective will be prone to mimic what you all already 'know' from the previous tour.
I guess what I'm asking is how short of notice is too soon for the lighting crew to implement new things for this tour?
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
Because Blair has stated that he's been waiting for the band's MANAGEMENT to confirm the dates of the shows so he can post them. I'm sure Maynard is in there making all the business calls setting up the dates and getting everyone organized to go on tour... sounds about right doesn't it?
Obviously we all know that the band members themselves aren't setting all this shit up, they have the management people to do that stuff. But I doubt anyone has a clue of what the setlists are going to be like, Tool themselves might not know what the setlist is going to be like yet.
You said you might not buy tickets because the show would be short and no good old songs or whatever, what if it's the opposite? What if it's 2.5 hour shows with 3/4's of the setlist being from Ænema, Undertow and Opiate? Why come in here and say stuff like "I might pass" just because you've imagined up that the shows are going to suck?
