tool's music takes a different direction in every album, where do you think they are going, what are you hoping for? members have mentioned it would be their blues album, and andy king has mentioned hypnotic beats and tribal influences, and the titles certainly suggest more comercial or humble music.

Oh, the titles suggest more commercial music? LOL. Please, stop talking about those damn titles. It's really pointless.
The titles are crap, the titles sound commercial, the titles are fake... I'm really getting a headache.
Now, concerning the topic: I'm only hoping for a really good album and for something new and different. No Undertow-Lateralus crossbreed or Lateralus II or Aenima II or whatever. Just something new that sounds different. Since they've got a new producer I think my wish will come true :)
Oh and I also hope that all of the instruments (including Maynard's voice) are treated equally. On Lateralus for instance, Danny's drumming was very much to the fore, which I really liked but like I said, I don't want the new album to sound like Lateralus.

i'm hoping for a decent album.
it could be trip-hop or folk, just as long as it was good trip-hop or folk.

ENOUGH GIRL AVATARS.
I think TOOL's new album will be a 64 minute long C# chord.
But not as good as The Well-Tuned Piano.

Seriously though, Im glad that its gonna be more bluesy. But then again, almost every tool album has heavy jazz influences.

Maybe, I think of blues as more of a rhythm then lyrics. Also, there have been many tool songs where the lyrics are dim and sad.

Well, the only songs I can listen to without having suicidal tendencies are My December and One Step Closer. Rest of their shit really bugs me. I'm lucky I have more power in my stereo- and computer soundset because my brother really likes LP. He thinks LP and The Rasmus are some of the greatest bands alive.
I also tend to ignore my brother. ALOT.

The titles sound commerical? what the hell? Tool are a commercial band. They make money, therefore they are commercial.
I think its just too hard to predict where Tool are going with this album. I'd love to hear some tribal beats. I just hope this album is really fucking weird and original. I hope I dont love it on the first listen!

same here, if you like a song on the first listen, it tends to get old quick. If a song grows on you then there are pieces that can only be found with multiple listens.

Yeah, I much prefer that, sometimes it takes me a long time to start loving Tool songs. I still haven't listened to "Jimmy" on the Aenima album yet cause I remember not being too fond of it on first listen. So one day I will put it on and love it.

Seems to be some stoner rock coming this way
Their producer on this album has also produced Queens and Melvins.......stoner rock anyone.
I have a feeling the entire album will be one note played for a very long time_ :-) _
