re: LA onsale
did anyone else get a ton of error messages and think they were shut out then end up having all their orders filled about 45 minutes later? this is what happened to me.
i ended up with 3 for night 1 and 5 for night 2 - axs auto canceled one of the orders. not sure which one. all single seats.
if i have extras i'll post in the ticket hookup.

Hey Toolheads, good to join the community. Regarding Denver, I think they will play 7empest at the end. Maybe some of the interlude music will get played but I bet it's more loose. Except for CC, that's Danny's solo baby. I'm hoping for some Invincible too.

With all the new songs being of the longer variety, I would say the chances are slim.

Yep, I don't see Lateralus back in the setlist until the band go back into "Greatest Hits" mode.

forgive me if asked/answered/straight-stupid, but does the band ever create/cater setlists to "specifically" "message" "certain" "locales"? like, "alright bumfuck usa, we better take it nice, an', slow, with plen'y of purdy pictures fur y'all to point at", or like "nice to be back in holland. let us now rock out with our collective cock out". and might such considerations be weighted for/against more "greatest hits" -oriented setlists? idk. maybe i was just going through a phase of "self-hating mass(achusetts)hole", but i remember (mansfield '01) feeling a tad insulted hearing justin play down the two G(od) D(amn) harmonic notes, before the repeated A B~......... "...choices always were aA B~ problem for you..." hurts, so good. (of course, he was right, i mean, my "omg, this song's like totally about me!" interpretation was right; we are "broken" people). or "swamp song"? who's had that song played at them? and what tf did you do to deserve that? bet washington d.c. hears it ...a bunch. take -that-, politics!

I feel like “Schism” is the most likely to go among it, “Stinkfist”, and “46 & 2”; “Pneuma” takes over that spot. I’m also hoping for a “Lateralus” return, but I just don’t see it. I can’t see the two Aenima staples going anywhere, either. Figuring one slot gets saved for an additional oldie that pulls from anywhere in the catalogue, then the closer. I’m sure I’m off with “7empest” and FI set spots, but I am not feeling “7empest” anywhere else in the set. It’s likely they leave that one out for a while, too. Hard to believe that will be road-ready. But when it is, I think it fits better as an opener than anywhere else. If they leave that out, that leaves room for “Schism”, probably “Jambi”, or hopefully “Lateralus.”

it's definitely time to shelve schism. i'm just surprised it has been in every (?) tool setlist since 01
i have seen one show w/o 46&2 (7/19/10) so it is possible, though unlikely

MJK should just do the lateralus vocals during Invincible. The song (musically) has similar structure.

Me too but I'm thinking a few are locks, if anything to give a mental break in between FI songs..

It's not looking like it at the moment, but still a possibility. Will let ya know. Right now, focus is to see if I can get in to that Maiden show this weekend (still have Belew that night if Maiden doesn't work out). Then the two Tool shows in Oct at Staples. I was considering the AZ date too, but middle of the week so kinda hard to pull off with work.

I saw them in Tucson. Terrible arena but it was a great show by the band and I met lots of great people. You will love it!

That’s a pretty boring stretch, but you’ll definitely get a face-full of deserted desert. A couple hour detour would take you through Jerome, which is a really cool town if you’re looking to get into some old-west history, among other Tool related things...

Man, I was stationed out that way back in 2010-2011 at Twentynine Palms, CA. I wish I woulda been paying attention because I would have checked out Jerome in a heartbeat! On 96's I used to go visit my friends in Phoenix, or check out Havasu, or whatever.

I'll be camping in Arizona for a week, so I'll have plenty of time to go to Jerome and see the sights.

You’re going to have an amazing time. My family hails from Jerome- back when it was all about the mine. My grandparents were born there, family still all over Prescott & Chino. All the family gets married in Jerome... I’ve spent a lot of time in the area, so if you’re looking for cool shit to see, I’ve got a list.

Gila bend makes Jerome quite the day trip. I would hit that on your way in/out or camp overnight. Locals kind of avoid Sedona. Sure the hiking and scenery are great and there’s the whole vortex thing, if you’re into that... but Sedona as a day-trip is a strip mall of souvenir shops, overpriced restaurants and the commercialization of new-age culture. You can expect to see one or more midwestern dads in cargo shorts with a camera around his neck explaining to his bored children what “hippies” are. There’s plenty to see in Jerome, so I would focus on that.
The Raku glass blowing gallery in Jerome was a really cool experience. Sat and watched him blow a wine glass and was able to buy it when he was done. The rest of town is pretty small, but consider the mine tour. It is the whole reason that town was there. Also, the big hotel used to be a hospital, and is said to be very haunted. I think their restaurant is still called The Asylum?
Another cool day/ overnight trip is SR88 into the Superstition Mountains. You may remember a Newsletter from summer ‘08 (ish...?) where Blair wrote about the Lost Dutchman’s gold. Well, that’s where you’d find it. There’s also a couple ghost towns worth checking out. Go down 88 far enough, you’ll get to Canyon lake. Good camping and boating lake. A little further down 88 and you’ll find Apache Lake. There’s great camping, but also a restaurant, bar and hotel at Apache. I lived there for a summer and worked in the restaurant, so this is a special place for me. Watch for bighorn sheep.
Mill Ave is the college-town strip in Tempe. Not quite my speed, but it’s got poppin’ nightlife. Remember: ASU SUCKS (Bear down). Better yet is oldtown Scottsdale if you can afford it. Think: dress code meets dust-town. Yuppies, bimbos, blow, and DUIs.
Golf is everywhere, but if you golf you already know that.
Biosphere 2 is a really cool tour, and commonly overlooked. Good Groupon deals, too. It’s a couple hours away, but doable in a day. At the base of the Catalina Mountain, this is the neighborhood I grew up in, and it’s my favorite place in the world.
Salt river tubing is always a good time. You can rent a tube and take the bus up-river, and float back to your car. The weather will probably still be flirting with triple digit temps in mid October, so...
Zia Records is great. It’s not quite Amoeba, but you can spend some time there.
If you see an Eegees, get one. The sandwiches are pretty standard but the Eegees “slushy” is where it’s at. The flavor of the month is always fun but watermelon is the best, and I think you can get it year round now.
Also, Nicos, or Los Betos are going to be the best burrito shops. They’re kind of dingy but the food is great, they’re everywhere and usually 24/7. If a Mexican restaurant looks like they hired an interior designer, their customer base is probably snowbirds and international tourist, and their food reflects that.
