I don't go to Fests. Big cash grab imo. The wet dream of the recording industry's marketing punks.

I enjoy festivals actually, nice vibes, good to see bands you normally wouldn't check out.

Let's not pretend non-festival shows aren't also "cash grabs" - these aren't not for profit organisations

I'd take Tool (or any other band) doing their own show as a preference though.

Some are better than others that's for sure. I would certainly prefer a headlining gig, if anything they are almost certainly a song or 2 longer.

seems like last years festival sets were the same length as previous headlining shows.

There's not a great deal of difference - from what I've noticed it's mostly shorter segues and lack of an intermission rather than large setlist changes

Dont sleep on All Souls, they are solid, I've known the drummer for a while now and they rock pretty hard. (There is a DC connection and he hand picked them to open for the LA debut of Legend of the Seagull Men.) Live they sound a little like early QOTSA.

Any one see the latest tweet? #riotgearretired....

Seems to me like this and adams instagram post last night are confirming at least one new song. Id be surprised to get a new single tomorrow, but it would also seem weird for them to debut a new tune at a festival where they cant stop filming.

Adam also posted a Donnie Darko gif 3 days ago...

In Donnie Darko the countdown is 28 days, 06 hours, 42 minutes, and 12 seconds.( If you add these numbers, the sum is 88.)

Theory:

Tool's catalog will be made available on all digital streaming platforms tomorrow, accompanied by something new; the "something" could be a brand new song, (maybe along with announcement of release date for album...maybe not), or the release of the re-recorded "Opiate."

My palms are a little sweaty. I don't know. I DON'T KNOW.

Ah you guys and your theories. My theory is that when Tool decide to release the album, single and/or digital streaming, we'll know about it in advance, and it won't be a surprise.

Agreed. I have been trying not to complain about setlists..But man this is getting old.

I don't get why they are willing to remove a song like lateralus, or dating back to the 10k days tour aenema, but aren't willing to pull 46&2 and Schism. Great tunes, but they have been played at virtually every show since their inception.

They did however have intolerance written on the set, but didn't play it.

Hopefully the arena shows will see an additional song or two. Intolerance and something like the patient would make me pretty happy with what they are playing.

That's good Intel right there! Intolerance would be a welcome addition. It will be interesting to see what sticks when the set becomes 75% new material

Surprised there's no update. August 30 confirmed as the release date for the new album. Still a ways off, but at least we have something. Can only assume at this point they are planning to release vinyl at the same time as other formats given the extended timeframe.

Sounds like a great show. Love Intolerance! Hope this stays on the setlist for a long time.

Glad I saw Opiate on the last tour, it looks like it is out of the rotation now.

We finally have an album release date! Hopefully this will follow with more North Amercian fall shows.

Sounds like a great show. Love Intolerance! Hope this stays on the setlist for a long time.

Glad I saw Opiate on the last tour, it looks like it is out of the rotation now.

We finally have an album release date! Hopefully this will follow with more North Amercian fall shows.

Man, August seems pretty far away. Touring with only 2 new songs seems odd. And rotating Sweat with Intolerance (?) But HB is right, at least we have a date.

75% seems like a stretch. Maybe I need to look at setlists from 2006-2007 tho.

Just got home from Louisville and all i can say is Junior has just continued to outdo himself over and over. I feel like every time I see Tool, when I tell my friends how it was, the first thing I say is "best visuals ever." Anyway, great show, I was so happy to hear Intolerance for the first time in a while. Thanks Junior!

Ok is it my imagination or is Invincible just a rehash of a bunch of older snippets? I hear a lot of familiar sections and some mumbling. I’ll get a better feel when I see it firsthand on Saturday – but my initial thought is that it’s a red herring…

I’ve only listened to each new tune once; in “Invincible,” I remember thinking out loud “that part sounds like ‘Rosetta Stoned’...and that part is ‘Jambi,’” speaking specifically about the guitar riffs. Same notes, same tempo, slightly different phrasing.

I recognized another part as a snippet that’s been played live over the last few years. It sounded like it could have been a b-side from 10k Days. Not saying I think it was, just the vibe I got.

Liked both, though.

Both of the new songs definitely sound like Tool songs, that's for sure.

Incorporating Tool riffs in Tool songs is such a Tool thing to do!

So where are the tool fans these days? Reddit? I thought these two new songs are awesome. Invincible is cool as hell.

I dont think they sound like rehashes. There were some really rough recordings where you couldn't hear the litter intricacies i think. Search Justin Rucker on youtube. there are some really high quality recordings of both songs on there from the birmingham show. Some of the best sound iv heard from any live tool recordings. You can hear a lot more of the song i feel.

I really love Descending! I was weary of Invincible until I found a better recording of the song. After hearing a better version, Invincible has grown on me and it's a really good tune. The lyrics of Invincible are very fitting for the whole state of Tool and where they are now.

I absolutely look forward to the new album. Tool is back and on fire🔥!! I definitely want to see them live here on the West Coast in the fall.
