Well, Paul left of his own accord afaik. And Tool was a different band after he left, no doubt. Their music definitely reflects that huge change since I think Lateralus (for example) is quite different than the first EP and Opiate due in no small part to the departure of Paul and the addition of Justin.
That said, whenever Tool does something off of Opiate or Undertow (the material for both was written at the same time) I usually do not think of it as being different without Paul there. But there are some old school fans around here who still miss that guy, even tho Justin is obviously amazing.

Sure, they can play the music of that band, but it's NOT that band anymore if just one member is replaced.

If you want to see how Tool could sound with it's key members missing, listen to the live version of Eulogy as performed by A Perfect Circle. It's floating around the net.
I think it's total garbage. I don't care how technically inclined Freese or Howerdel are. I don't care if they were using the exact same equipment. It just doesn't work. I think it's the whole synergy thing. Take a Vicodin by itself, it's alright. Take a Soma by itself, it's ok. Take both at the same time, it's 5X as good. Tool as a whole really is an opiate. Anything less is just plain bunk.

Not to take away from your point, but to the best of my knowledge APC has never covered Eulogy or any other Tool song. Whatever version you speak of that is floating around the internet, or on the "Acoustica" bootleg, is someone else.

I've dicided that when Danny gets better, and The Boys start up the tour again and make it here just in time to play at my birthday party... I'd like to hear Cortez the Killer. They could definately rock my face off with that.
BTW - I don't suppose anyone's heard rumors yet of who's opening up for them, eh?

I mean realistically, how long does a tear in the bicep usaully take to heal, i mean cmon...... 4-6weeks, we heard this news on February 20, and its March 5. than its been 15 days. the tour starts March 15, ok. Danny should be ready just in time for the new tour, have a little faith, i havent heard any shows totally cancelled, or postponed indeffintly... sooooo. Tool is gonna open up with 'Reflection' March 15 or '46&2'. Or maybe even "Right in Two" which i saw tham close the set with last Sept. 11, [[MONUMENTAL]] in The Woodlands, TX when Maynard was sick. Yet, he still pulled it off like a champ, even though line after line was missing from many songs because Maynards voice was horse, i enjoyed it very much more than your average tool concert goer. These assholes are crying cause Maynard wont sing a few words in a song, these sweaty fat kids need to learn to appreciate, cause the next show in San Antonio was cancelled without warning, this show was one like no other, if u attented it, u are one lucky tool fan, like me.
point* Instrumental tool is freaking crazy tight, especially when u collect bootleg shows like me, and analyze, how TooL plays live year after year, diffrent time signatures and diffrent variations in certain songs, they are the best, i know this. main point** Danny is gonna be up handling his fucking business come March 15.

Although I'm no medical-field major, I'd say a torn bicep muscle takes at least 3 months to recover from. I mean, this guy is a drummer. You can't be out touring, playing drums with a sore arm and expect to be 100%.
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
I wish they would be back in action by March 15, but something tells me it's more serious than to allow them to keep on touring. Why say you're going to postpone shows to only pick up right where you left off? I was actually in a car that flipped a few times in the wee hours of Sunday morning. Luckily I came out okay, but I have a couple of spasms in my arm and shit and that's nothing compared to a torn bicep, but even spasms make your arm sore as shit.
I always feel like a bitch when I complain about Tool not releasing news. It makes me feel that I'm too concerned about seeing my damn Tool show than wanting Danny to truly recover all the way. I really feel for him, and I hope he comes through all right. With that said; admittedly, I'm really itching for some news, but I'm sure the reason Tool hasn't gotten back with us is that they are just feeling things out. If this is a truly serious injury to his bicep, it's very likely none of them know exactly what to tell the fans because it's just as much up in the air with them as it is with us.
Think about it, if the shows get postponed much longer the whole structure of this tour will undergo a complete overhaul. It's likely that some of the venues will have sport events to take priority or what have you. Then you have all these tickets that have to be honored or refunded (I'm keeping mine), and they may even be at completely different venues. Will there be some songs Danny will have to stay away from because they are particularly drum heavy? All I know is that Tool is working their asses off right now. I really hope to see "Right in Two". I have a drummer friend and I asked him if he could pull that off (regarding the drum build-up). He told me that kinda stuff is all in the wrist. I hope he's right.
Be thankful for every chance you get to see Tool. Tragic things happen, but these four guys have been doing what they do for a good 12 years. When I hear people saying "Sure, they'll make another album" or "I'll catch 'em next time they come around." I can't help but think that life is pretty random. I certainly didn't think I'd be flipping in a Mazda Sunday morning, and I thank (insert here) that my neck didn't snap and all my friends got out all right. Anyway, I certainly hope Danny comes through okay, and yes, I would love some news.

I knew someone would bring that up, but I was referring to the four that have been together for about 12 or 13 years. Namely, from Justin on. Paul was out about 94or 5ish I believe. But the Danny, Maynard, Adam, Justin combo has been around for a solid 12 or 13 years.
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
And, believe me, I know their history, and get the whole "Hooker w/ a Penis" reference. But he's referring to their first EP, and Paul was their bassist back then.
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)

Toolarmy.com just took the vegas and San Diego shows off the tour list. WTF!!!!
I know everyone out there is very interested in the city they live in and the status of that show, but come on, People all over America are interested in the status of Vegas. I have seen on other boards that the show is not going to be at "the pearl" and at a place called the Theatre Under the Stars. Anyone else have any insight on this or heard anything I'm leaving out?
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
Ok guys I have a question... I called ticketmaster about a week ago to see if I could exchange my seats for better seats that became available. The lady said yes, we can exchange your seats so she assigned me to the new seats. Not knowing that it was going to cost me an extra 30 dollars in fees, so once I heard that I told the lady I will just stay with my original seats. She said she could not give me my original seats because she gave them up. So instead of being in 324 Row H she was going to move me up to 324 Row A. Whatever no big deal, but when my tickets came in the mail, I received section 324 Row H and section 324 Row A. So I have 3 extra seats in my original seats. So my question is do you think that all the tickets they mailed me will scan on the day of the show?

I agree.
these shows might not be rescheduled:
1. recent toolband posts suggest a quick recovery
2. None of the April / late March dates have been taken off of toolband
- I would immagine if they knew for sure that the april dates would be canceled, they would have been deleted with the early March dates. Why otherwise would you only delete some? I think April is still a possibility.
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
hey dclxvi-qas where did you get this info that the tour will continue on march 26th?
Is this all speculation? No info has been released,i dont even think TOOLs management is 100% certain of the dates,go read the "update of an update" post by Blair on toolband.com
