I never made the connection between that song and Jesus until I heard the part about "come down, get off your fucking cross" but I still don't think it was specifically about Jesus, or anyone for that matter.

If you ever fly into space, do not lose sight of the earth because a compass will do you no good if you want to return

...or just about failed heroes in general?

You build a saviour up to be someone who you can idolise, someone you can identify with, somone who would die for you...
but in reality they were a sham all along, and cannot live up to your expectations.

Therefore applicable to Jesus, but I don't really think the song was soley about him.

Also in Hooker-the reference to the "Man" I always thought was a poke in the eye to overly-paranoid slightly idiotic left-wingers who believe most things are a conspiracy theory, and believe "selling out" is on a par wit paedophilia on the list of crimes a human can commit.

Re: Ænima Theory

ok first post...

this truly is a great thread.....
lateralus is the album which i have stidied and interpreted and related to... after hearing all the songs on aenima and listening to a burt version, i bought the album and listened to it about 10 times in a few days and just could not find an overall interpratation of the album. i think the majority of the ideas and thoughts being displayed here are fucking great, however the people who say "no sorry your song meaning is wrong, here's what it means" shit me beyond belief. the songs are open to interpratation and this is the beauty of tool.....

however keep up the good work

Re: Ænima Theory
