Tool is a band, not a collection of individuals mixing each of their instruments over the top of each other, they play as a band, complementing each others instruments, they mesh, they dont layer. Pink Floyd once said something along the lines of leaving space inbetween each sound from an instrumnet, and letting another instrument fill into that space, to create a tightly meshed song.

I don't think the band itself was in question.
The point was -- Adam is not an astounding or fantastic guitarist.

the tabber wrote this down at the heading of the page

adam is not a technical guitar player. But he has got one hell of a
memory to remmber all of the songs when they change this much (exept 46&2... hehe)
here it is, my contribution to the world.

Thank you and this point is OBVIOUS when 2nd year guitarist and shit are reproducing his stuff perfectly. I know this topic has been beaten to death. But at least more people are realizing.
Tool would be nothing if they had.....a normal rock drummer.
Props to InnerCombustion on doing all these drum tracks.
And to all the people who talk about Jones' creativity....didn't Adam once admit that Justin writes most the riffs.
I know I write all the riffs in my band and I am the bass player. Not saying that matters, but it's likely Jones just "plays to" what Justin is playing.

Shism is awsome, that is one of my favorite tool riffs
In most bands the bass player writes the tune and the guitarist puts stuff to it. In my band its different, cause the bass player isnt very creative, so i wirte the guitar and bass parts.

Bassist writing first is generally a retarded way to do it, unless he's firring th ewhole time. I find it easier to figure out the chordal progressions of guitar riffs and set a bass line to them.

A quick showcase of moi. Pretty half-assed and lazy, but I wanted to put something down. Recorded through the comp so sound isn't that great, but it's better than nothin :)

I can do vocals for any song. Can figure out guitar for any of the songs cept the crazy eq'd/delayed/pickuped solos (pushit/3rd eye mainly) Can do bass for the easier songs (stinkfist/aenema/sober/schism), could do 46n2 if I could figure out the notes in the middle fills.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Holy - I'm using my Epi LP (Duncan Distortion in the bridge) through a Metal Zone. Just stuff I had lying around, I don't even use the MT-2 anymore, but it sounded *decent* through my soundcard.
When we do higher quality stuff I'll bust out my full pedalboard.

IC - any idea when you'll be able to do high quality stuff? I'd like to get a server going so that we can send each other high-bitrate tracks, too.
I have a bass, so I suppose I could learn the bass lines and lay them down if no one else jumps at it...

Holy, that intro kicked serious ass. Nice job.
A little constructive, friendly criticism - I think you have the schism riff off, the part where it drops down a fret, ya know?
But real nice job man, who else is playing on that track?

? the riff off in the intro? or in the actual song.....
damn man your'e right i'm playing 87 instead of 97, it seems to sound fine though.... doesn't it?
as for the intro I'm playing 2 guitars in the track.....
it kind of sucks how bad my 2nd guitar part clips, it sounds amazing live, real fuzzy and grungey but also pretty deep and kickass, and it doesn't translate well into the soundcard..... i love feeling the notes vibrate off my chest, it's sweet.

Yeah man - the 8/7 thing. Sounded wrong to me right away, switch er up to the 9/7.
I meant who was playing bass/drums, etc. The intro is really cool, you can't expect much in terms of quality recording using just a sound card (not micing an amp) but it sounded alright, especially for the low bitrate you encoded it at.

Schism
I'm not done or anything, but this is as far as i've got...
and if you'd like me to try and emulate justins tone, let me know, i was just going with my tone, to make some of it slightly personalized... I realize that the timing is really off at the end of the interlude, but that's like that so the end slightly matches up. I'll rerecord the end, and learn a few of the parts that i don't know.
