This is actually an uninvited guest that crashed one of Maynards partys. He was supposed to be friend of one of the guests and then he approached Maynerd and started this rambling. Maynard immediately grabbed a tape recorder and started taping the guy.

I forgot to add that sense he is stereotyping Americans and Maynard specifically as "cool, cocky guys" he had to name it accordingly. Hence the name "Harry Manback".

Thanks for clearing that up. I never understood where all "that" came from. One more thing, is that THEE actual recording Maynard made of the guy talking? It's oddly calm for a rant...
i think it was a guy from a party who crashed there for a few nights and Maynard kicked him out. after the guy was angered so he left a message on maynards answering machine
Message to Harry Manback is a recording of the words of an uninvited Italian guest who came to Maynard's house one day. A so-called friend of a friend of a friend of Harry's .... Before we finally managed to figure out that nobody really knew him, he had already emptied the fridge and run up a huge phone bill. He got kicked out of the house.
This recording was made by buddy who angered Gary Helsinger from Green Jello.
Gary said: "Voice in this song belongs to my old pal Francesco from Rome. Once he had stolen some things from my friend Jerry. Same evening he recorded on my secretary. He was almost 2m tall but his weight was about 100 pounds( 50 kg)...A few yeras later i showed this recording to Maynard...
Some cuts and piano and...voilr!"
I think that this clears a bit.

and "Stewardesses in Heat", but all the pornagraphy had been cut out of them. ("There's a frustrating hour!")
Anyway he was bitching that they cut out all the pussy shots, but they leave in all the shots of the "hairy bobbin' man-ass". He goes, "Man, I don't even want to pay THIS bill- I'm jumpin' out the fuckin' window!!... (imitating hotel clerk) "You the guy that bought all the hairy man-ass films?" (as himself) "It didn't say 'Hairy Man-Ass', it said 'Sex Kittens'- If it'd said 'Hairy Bobbin' Man-Ass' I never would've bought the motherfucker!!!!"
I could be mistaken as I'm sure that there is material of his that I have not heard, but I think this is what you're thinking of, right?

Actually, this isn't true, I read that Harry Manback was this Itallian guy that was Maynard's roommate, but for some reason, I think it was because of doin too much dope or being a slob or something, but anyway, Maynard and his other roommates got him really drugged, and took him to a park and left him there, to get rid of him, basically. A few days later, Harry called them up and left a message ---that recording being it. it makes sense, because is very pissed off, saying "you really hurt me" and stuff...that story isn't completely accurate, i probably mixed up the details, but thats pretty much what happened. The effect they tried to have with this song was that someone who listens to it, who knows no English or Italian, wouldn't understand the dialoge, and because of the pretty piano music, think its a love song, when really its just the opposite. This reminds me of a quote by fredrick Nietzsche---"Those who cannot hear the music, think the people dancing are insane"
If it was just a one night thing, I don't think that there would have been a Harry Manback II, which is found on Salival. Anyway, I'll bet the FAQ is correct about it.
Yeah, that's what l thought. But you never know, the guy could have called the day after as well...and TOOL planned it that way. ln that way, l mean to be on the next album.

Do you think they would plan something like this so that they could have two filler songs on two different albums?
Yeah, l think they would. The members of TOOL are genuis...l'm sure they think ahead.
My question is directed at, why would they want two of these songs on two different albums? Do they have any significant meaning being as that they were put on two different albums?
I have no doubt that they purposefully planned to put the second on Salival, but I just want to know the reason this sort of thing was important enough to make it onto two albums.
Seriously man thanks. I was listening to that song a few days ago trying to figure out the meaning. So far the only meaning I could interprit would be Stinkfist.
