Maybe i'm totally wrong, but i have to post this.

Is there some form of connection between the four pictures in a way need, greed and the unknown?

Let me explain:

Adam: {science} the need to know. To define the explainable.

Maynard: {addiction} in the form of drugs (wine), sex (naked female in the back), narcism (mirror) and as a workaholic (in the image of the desk with phone).

Justin: {nature} in the image of the eagle. The unknown answer to our origin.

Danny: {the occult} finding explaination for the unknown in religions and beyond.

I haven't quite figured it out but i think this could be plausable.

Please help me out on this one.

what do you mean by greed? I see where you are coming from with needs and the unknown (that does seem like it's there), but how do they have anything to do with anything else about 10,000 days.

Why do you view the wine as addiction? Jesus brought wine and so Did Dionysus symbolizing rebirth. Death of the vine in the winter and rebirth in the spring, the ressurection and all that shit.

My theory is that danny is capturing the life force(mystical light coming from behind him with the sacred geometry degrees) in the ego/body (little skullish head thing). and processing it down to adam where the life force meets it's shadow, death. Then you it/you/I/most likely "the hero" is ressurected in maynards picture meeting the feminine (anima /soul) then sent "home" by justins eagle representing ascension. Part metaphor Part literal i guess with Judith marie dying. I don't really know you have your thoughts I have mine and evryone else has theirs, so we put a lot of ourselves into these interpretations. Good luck with your thoughts.

Thanks for your support. I just saw some kind of connection and i wondered if there were some people around who shared that vision or had some sort of positive critisism on the topic. I guess i was a bit to optimistic when i started this in the first place.

I don’t think Maynard would use wine to symbolize addiction seeing that he owns a winery in Arizona.

I like a drink or two myself but i seriously think that to some it can become an addiction.

And also i don't believe Maynard is financially depending on Merkin Vineyards, do you? It's just a hobby to him.

The entire thing is about alchemy/transmutation. There, I spilled it. The process that wine goes through to become wine is an alchemical process (maynard). Each stage in alchemy is noted with a particular type of bird (justin). Alchemy was both a practical (adam) and metaphorical (danny) system of acids, bases, vitriol, and a bunch of wild things to derive the "philosophers stone".

Tool is still about elevation, evolution, alchemy, and changes. Read up on alchemy.

With all the blatant symbolism involved in these pictures, I see little need to blur the bird for an extra meaning. It just seems to me like the bird was moving, which made it slightly blurry. Although, I'm not denying its a possibility.

wikipedia.org says a little about the language of the birds:

"In Kabbalah, Renaissance magic, and alchemy, the language of the birds was considered a secret and perfect language and the key to perfect knowledge, sometimes also called the langue verte, or green language."

I know that each stage in alchemy is associated with a different bird, either for metaphorical purposes or some deeper one that I've yet to come across. I know one of the birds is a pelican, and the symbolism behind it being the pelican will pick at its own breast and feed its babies using its own blood.

Yeah you're probably onto something... it seems that the four pictures deptic four ways of 'knowing' the world, maybe linked to the four 'functions' of the mind... (intuition, sensation, intellect, sentiment)
My guess is that Maynard & Adam represent the material knowledge, acquired by our intellect(science) or trough our sensations (wine, sex, etc.)
On the other hand, Justin & Danny would symbolize the sipritual knowledge, again acquired by our mind (the eagle is a common symbol of the mind) or by our body, with danny's occult alchemical experiments...

But when it comes to the meaning of it... i just don't know...

Yeah, i think the quote "sensation" is a better suitable definition of Maynard's part in this.

I don't think there is a real message, like world peace or something, hidden in this. I just think the four photographs are a combined symbolism. But what?

with sensation comes desensitization. Which references addiction. Which is a human condition. Which is a regular tool topic. I think the phones also reference communication, which danny stated in an interview with modern drummer I believe that communication was one of the key concepts of 10,000 Days.
