Everyone has picked up already on the 'blame Hoffman' section of this song title (LSD obviously) but I have discovered through my psychology studies something referred to by psychologists as 'lost keys syndrome'. It's basically the human instinct to stop searching for further answers to a problem as soon as they've found one answer. To me this adds a whole new meaning to the song. Is it that the guy in hospital's condition is instantly blamed on drugs when perhaps the doctors should have gone a little deeper......

Dr. Watson asks him at the end of Lost Keys, which means he hadn't made a conclusion yet. Once it drifts to Rosetta Stoned is when the "patient" states what had happened. (Althought "Rosetta Stoned" may be Dave's subconscious relaying the information, unable to speak, and describing what he has/is gone/going through. So no and yes, because this is all I have to go by for an "easy" way to explain.
-Andrew
P.S. - Does anyone else hear a faint "jingle" of a 'slap keys in pant's pocket' sound through the beginning-middle, slightly?

though theres the famous defining of drugs being the cause of this. the lost keys syndrome made me think of something what we think we know and what else there is to know, linking this to the song, then the doctor and the nurses inability to fully understand what the problem is relevant. the patient is the only person that knows what has happend, perhaps suggesting that with the lost keys syndrome in mind, that we maybe we cant handle the truth just yet. or even if we did learn this "truth" then people would assume its all down to drugs.
sorry thats said in a nonsense kind of way, but hopefully some people will see what im saying. kinda

Lost Keys (Blame Hoffman) makes it sound, to me, like it's making the point that people take drugs and then think they understand everything, and stop searching, when there's really more to it.

Wings 1 & 2 were originally called "Lost Keys" because Justin literally misplaced his keys while they were recording that song. So they called it Lost Keys as a joke, then replaced the name with 10,000 Days.
Good theory though. I like it.

Sorry... don't have it. I read this quite a while ago.
I believe it was in a TOOL newsletter from the official site though.
I'll look around the site later on maybe. If I find, I will post.
*EDIT: Found it... it's from the July 2006 newsletter. Here's what it says, check it out for yourself if need be...
"SUBJECT: CONCERING 10,000 DAYS AND NEWSLETTERS
Q: "In one Newsletter a while back you talked about the band being in the recording studio working late one night and told us about how Adam didn't want to quit for the night until they had finished the song they were currently working on because it was in his opinion one of the best songs they've ever wrote. I was wondering which song that was. I can only guess that it was Rosetta Stoned but I don't know for sure and was just curious as to the song he thought was one of their best."
A: It was "Wings For Marie" and "10,000 Days (Wings Pt. 2)" which at the time, I believe, had the tentative (working) title of "Lost Keys" without the "Blame Hofmann" part. The keys that were lost in this instance were Justin's car keys, which he had misplaced at the rehearsal space one day as they were writing and arranging the lengthy piece."

Though I've read the above posts and understand the naming of LOST KEYS, I also appreciate the syndrome as further explication of both this song and ROSETTA STONED. It's a nice combination.
