Would make most sense to me. "Silence legion, say your praise".
But I think I heard live pretty clear poison.

Maynard did not name the song "Jam-buy" because of he humorously mispronounced anything (or for any other reason). He named the song Jambi (click the audio link). I could buy your theory if "Jambi" were a made up word, but it's not. It's a very real word about a very real place that bears a striking similarity to the lyrics in the song. That's just too big of a coincidence to ignore.

I can positively say that after the show I went to tonight (Hammersmith Apollo London, 13th June) I'm 100% sure that it's "Jambi Eyes". Maynard made a special emphasis on this when pronouncing it. If you watched his mouth move it was clearly "Jambi eyes".

You are probably right. I'm willing to accept the indonesian reference, as it is the most blatant. As cryptic as this song/title is, its easy to provoke different explanations though. Thats all I'm doing.

Well, thanks for the concession, but I don't see what's so "cryptic." As you say, "the Indonesian reference . . . is most blatant." So even though the word was not one with which we were familiar, it is one with a clear, concise connotation- thus not cryptic at all.

Well, but there is not only this use of the word "Jambi". There are a few more I think. What I think why it's called like that is first maybe just because they heard "Dim my eyes" and thought that sounds like "Jambi" (spoken wrong), or because, like someone said, like "Jam 2", because it's the second song, and Adam keeps saying they made the album out of jams. But then again, there is the "benevolent sun" thing, with that indonesian god or something like that. But I don't know what the rest of the song should have to do with that.

here from the king's mountain view
here from the wild dream come true
feast like a sultan i do
on treasures and flesh never few
but i
i would
wish it
all away
if i
thought i'd
lose you
just one day
the devil and his hand me downs
in love with the dark side i've found
dabbling all the way down
up to my neck soon to drown
but you change that all for me
lifted me up turned me around
so i
i
i
i
i would
i would
i would
wish this all away
fret like a martyr dusk til dawn
beg like a hooker all night long
tempted the devil with my song
and got what i wanted all along
but i
i would
if i could
i would
wish it away
wish it away
wish it all away
wanna wish wish it all away
no passion could hold sway
kneeling away my sin
and so if i could i'd wish it all away
if i thought tomorrow
would take you away
you're my peace of mind
my om
i said i'm just trying to hold on
one more day
damn my eyes
damn my eyes
damn my eyes
if they should compromise
or falter
want and need divide me
then i might as well be gone

While most of the lyrics posted above are a mess, after going back and listening I like the "[whatever] my eyes if they should compromise or falter" The Seattle bootless seems to reinforce that pronunciation.
edit: But the original sounds like "our fulcrum." Fuck if I know...

Another thought about this passages:
You're my peace of mind, my all/whatever
I said I'm just trying to hold on, one more day
It really sounds like he says "om" (phonetically). I thought ohm at first, but that makes absolutely no sense, as I don't think MJK is singing about impedence. A trip to our friend over at Wikipedia reveals that Om (or Aum) is particularly important in Hinduism and Buddhism.
An excerpt for those too lazy to actually read the Wiki:
Quote:
The symbol of Om contains of three curves, one semicircle and a dot. The large lower curve symbolizes the waking state; the upper curve denotes deep sleep (or the unconscious) state, and the lower curve (which lies between deep sleep and the waking state) signifies the dream state. These three states of an individuals consciousness, and therefore the entire physical phenomenon, are represented by the three curves. The dot signifies the Absolute (fourth or Turiya state of consciousness), which illuminates the other three states. The semicircle symbolizes Maya and separates the dot from the other three curves. The semicircle is open on the top, which means that the absolute is infinite and is not affected by maya. Maya only affects the manifested phenomenon. In this way the form of Om symbolizes the infinite Brahman and the entire Universe and the world. Aum is made out of the three gods Shiva and Ganesh and Gayatri.

Um, yes, 'found' there does make sense.
"In love with the dark side I'd found."
He found the dark side and fell in love with it, why doesn't that make sense?

Every time I listen to it, I definitely hear:
Damn my eyes
Jambi eyes
Dim my eyes if they should compromise...
There's no way all three are either "dim" or "damn." Sounds like he switches, to me.

I disagree. The song/title is cryptic. Just because you think you know what it means, does not mean that you are correct.

Just continue to take it at face value. That's what you seem to be doing. I'll say it again...the Indonesian Province reference is the most blatant. If I fully believed that, I wouldn't be searching through these threads for insight.

I never said that I was infallibly correct. Still, the title is not cryptic. Before this turns into a syntax debate, I will leave this particular argument by again quoting the inimitable Inigo Montoya . . . "That word, I do not think it means what you think it means."

From what I have heard (and of course this might not be true) Maynard finally reached the goal he had of becoming a wealthy and famous artist. He had an addiction to something like drugs or alcohol and his child was catalyst for getting himself back together. So the Jambi thing could quite possibly be a character on a show that his child liked.
I am new to this forum. I should have signed up a long time ago, I like it. I am sure most of you know this but there is a book that I think they used to get alot of song ideas for past albums called "Nothing is this book is true, but it's exactly how things are" I read it a few years back and it puts alot of parts of the music into perspective.

Well, the term/word Jambi means 'wish' in some language that I don't care to reference right now because I'm too lazy too look it up again, but I assure you that I did once before.
That stated, he doesn't have to be saying "Jambi eyes" to incorporate the title of the song into the song itself. The song is a wish. Jambi means wish. So to say 'Jambi eyes' would mean 'wish eyes' - and that makes no damn sense.
It's either dim or damn. Either makes sense and it sounds as though it could be either, so until Mr. Keenan graces us with the real lyrics, it doesn't matter. They both fit and are both equally likely. It's one of those ones that we may as well just let go untilt he official release. Sing whichever one you hear.
It's *not* 'Jambi eyes,' however.

Well, if jambi does mean "wish" in some language, then theoretically he could be saying "jambi-ize" as that would be the process of wishing something.
Apparently everyone would rather argue about that then perhaps take a look at the post above that sheds some light onto a piece of the lyrics that hasn't been completely decided upon yet. Clearly, continuing the argument over jambi/damn/dim is much more productive.

Ah, sorry, I thought we were in the Jambi lyric thread, not in the "post movie quotes without mentioning the title or saying why you post them" thread.

Woah. I'm not ripping you, it's from "The Princess Bride," and the "INCONCEIVABLE" bit was a line from the movie, too. Sorry for all the unrelated posts, but the first reference was explained. Anywho, you should watch The Princess Bride (or read it), but keep in mind that you would enjoy it much more had you seen it at a younger age.

Mayhap. I'd say you're treading the fine line. Most people that I know that love the movie sawit when they were like nine or ten. Most people that I know that don't think it's so great saw it when they were like eighteen or nineteen. Just bare in mind that the movie presentation is geared toward a more wide-eyed audience. The book, however, is great for all . . .
