There are a lot of folks here in the "Tool can do no wrong camp"
I guess i fit into that group.....what can i say, i just love everything they do. But then again I don't have much of a social life either (ha ha ha ha).
Honestly though i do enjoy coming to this site and reading everyone's take on the band, I admit at times i do get a little fired up when i don't agree with someone's opinion about something, but that is the great thing about this site, we can come here voice our opinions, get fired up and type stupid shit...silly shit....and yet still respect the fact that we are all free to think and feel what we want. Hopefully we all go away feeling good and with the wisdom to show tolerance in all aspects of our lives.
Or like I said, it could be that maybe i just need to get a life! LOL

Yes yes. Of course much love to all my fellow tool fans
When the new album is released an they tour on that material. If they stick to the approximately 10/11 song set they have now won't they have to choose more to ignore then just the oldest albums?
2 songs from aenima stinkfist/46&2
2 songs from Lateralus Schism/lateralus
2 songs from Vicarious ?/?
That only leaves room for 4 new songs completely ignoring Opiate and Undertow all together

I'm basing the 4 song thing completely on the 10Kdays tour in 2006/2007 those shows seemed to all have 4 songs from that album but then they worked in some old tunes because my first show I got to enjoy sober followed by opiate. Maybe they'll just start playing like 3.5hr sets and everyone will bitch because they played to long. I think that's what I'll hope for.

or if the new album is a double (fingers crossed) they play all of it, and nothing else.
That would get folks fired up! and maybe allow them to get out of arenas..
"Yeah Tool is fucking amazing. But there’s a big chunk of their fan base that think they’ve become thought provoking geniuses just from listening to them."
Fair enough, I'm just going by the $65 mentioned in sp103's post.
And just to let you know that $65 was via Ticketmaster.com not from scalpers/ticket brokers etc. Extra tickets went on sale that morning of the show, and once the wife gave me the hall pass for the night I bought one. They were side stage and I couldn't see the graphics so after seeing the show on youtube I take back my comments about the visuals. I just couldn't see them from the back end of the stage.
It was quite hilarious as I was signing HWAP lyrics and the people in front of me. One lady with her 3 14 old kids (obviously a chaperon) turned and looked at me. After that song she said to me "that's not appropriate stop swearing in front of these kids". I said "Lady, those are the lyrics of the song, this is Tool, so take your kids and go home if you don't like it. This isn't bible camp".
Blank stare... then silence. I assume she didn't think she'd get a logical response from someone like me with two beers in my hand.
She then turned to her son I'm guessing and said "you're not allowed to listen this band ever again". I couldnt help myself to say "YAY anal fisting song!" when stinkfist started.
i know we arent supposed to share any bootlegs or anything like that on this forum, but has anyone seen the vids opiatepusher666 is posting on youtube...no video but just audio...just listened to a few "HQ" recordings from the Charlotte show...quality is fantastic...but poster has the date listed as 2/2/12 for that show...we all know it happened on the 4th..if it is true, how the hell did he get such good quality...it almost sounds like a SBD rip...can barely even hear any crowd noise/chatter in the background.
also what the fuck is maynard saying in that aenima recording..switching the lyrics and shit..

Not sure how we are to enjoy our memories of this wonderfull start to 2012 without the help of wonderfull examples such as these! Thanks for the tip, these sound great and help me relive the tour and hear where the guys are right now. Killer tour! Thanks TOOL!

Those are IEM (In Ear Monitor) rips stolen by tapping into the radio frequency that's sent out to Maynard's wireless monitors. And I can't even imagine how badly that pisses him off. It's pretty invasive and shitty to do, honestly.
I don't turn my nose up too hard at true "bootlegs" despite the band hating them, but something about those feels extra icky.

You sure about that? Sounds more like board audio..You can hear Justins bass crystal clear like every note he's hitting(Charlotte is crisper then the Dallas shows)Dunno how any of that shit works myself but sounds good. If it is what you think it is that is pretty shitty though. I find it a lil odd to mention thanks an direct link to puscifers official youtube in every video though.

That's definitely what it is. There's been a few of these since the Lateralus tours, and they're often mistaken for "soundboard" recordings because they're much clearer than audience bootlegs. If you listen to Hooker and Jambi from that show the guy is trying to dial in the signal so there's lots of static. I don't see how anyone would get a true "soundboard" recording of a Tool show these days without breaking into their "vault" and physically stealing it from them. You don't just walk up and casually plug into Knobby's board.

ok I had no idea you could tap into the cordless ear piece monitors. What kind of device does that? I guess another ear piece monitor with a line "out"...??

Wow.
You need to buy decently expensive equipment, and you need to know exactly what Tool is running. You also need to get as close to Maynard as possible, as it is his feed and he is having it transmitted from side-stage. Then you need to find out what channel they are running that night. You might miss the first bit of the intro or song while you find it. You also need a decent recorder, and sneaking it all in your jock isn't that fun for the average joe.

i know! why didnt he post the new jam.....i want to blast it at home/in my car so bad. guess ill have to wait for the new album...
this was my 7th time seeing tool...seen them in pretty epic settings for how young i am...bonnaroo in 07 was mindblowing, red rocks 2010..that speaks for itself...for charlotte i was 4 rows in front of justin. i dont think ive ever seen them rock out to 46 and 2 so hard as a band. shit was hard.
finally, can someone please answer my question...what the hell is maynard saying...it sounds like "shlyer"....he has said it on a couple songs..most noticeable on aenima.."fret for your shlyer" he says it a few times.

I think that's a tech that works with them. I feel like i've heard about this before on the apc tour or something.
I'll say this... Like I said before Boston 2012 I haven't seen Tool since 2001 even though they are one of the best bands out there.
Just reviewing setlists from 2006, 2007 and 2009 reaffirms why I haven't gone. I will say it's part personal preference (I'm not a fan of Push It, 46-2, Schism or anything of Lateralus except the Grudge and The Patient).
If Tool is only going to play 10-13 songs per show they need to A: Play at least 2 songs of either Opiate or Undertow. B: Start playing some songs we haven't heard in a long time (Eulogy, H, Grudge, The Pot etc). If that means we don't hear Aenima, Vicarious, Jambi--fine.

two things about that quote. "I dont like anything off lateralus except for the grudge and the patient" and "start playing songs they havent played in a while."
have you been fallowing what the band has been doing or what.
and how the effe do you not enjoy lateralus

I have to admit, that is a pretty ignorant thing to say. I would hope that all Tool fans can appreciate the band's mutations over the years...even though 10,000 Days left much to be desired. Of all their albums, I figure that would be the one to not care for.

I've seen them 9 times since '97, and I have to say the Boston gig last month was the best I've seen them since Long Beach in '02. Yeah, I would love to hear some stuff off Opiate or Undertow, but I'm a huge Aenima fan (of which they played alot) & there's nothing I hate by Tool. I loved the entire set despite having heard 75% of it everytime I see them.
They absolutely killed it last month, and I can't wait until the next time they come around so I can make it 10 times!

It's spelled following.
Anyhow... It's personal preference like I said before. It's just my opinion. If you don't mind the fact that the band only plays for 1.5 hours fine. I've been pointing out older more established bands in comparison are playing longer sets with more songs. That's it.
Will I go see Tool the next time around? Probably not. I'm not going to spend money on something I'm going to find disappointing in the end.
H was a single. You can find it on ebay or the toolcollector site.
H. was not an official single...they made music videos for all their singles...such as stinkfist and Aenema. The H. "single" you're seeing on ebay and toolcollector are bootlegs..not official releases from the band.

Actually I think you'll find you are wrong, and that H. was a promo single. You couldn't buy it in the store but it was released by their label.
HWAP
The Grudge
Sweat
Jambi
Eulogy
You Lied
Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned
(intermission for water and protein bars)
Prison Sex
Jimmy
Opiate
Pushit(aenema version)
Third Eye
for a surprise encore "Maynards Dick"(the song, not his actual penis.)
I left stinkfist and schism out cause they need a few tours off from the setlist in my opinion. 46&2 and Lateralus are pushing the song labor laws as well. Don't get me wrong, they're sick songs..would just like to swap them out to make room for a fresher setlist.

Which NJ show did you go to....Camden or E. Rutherford? I hear Camden was better. I was afraid to get shot so I stayed away hahah. Izod show was great sounding and I thoroughly enjoyed the view of the beast from my seat. Didn't mind not having a good view of Maynard this time; i gave up long ago hoping he'll break out and get crazy. I get it tho, he's not a circus performer, but damn I would give anything to have seen him back in the day when he would stare out into the audience like a psycho. My first show was 97 and the stage was blacked out (or maybe i was)!!!!!

I approve but swap HWAP for Opiate and Jambi for H. and you would really have something there. Definately don't remove You Lied for anything!

Great list! I would swap out You Lied with Right in Two and leave off lost Keys so we could hear 4 Degrees.
D/R/T would be the perfect encore. It makes me sad thinking that it may not ever get played again, in-full. It's the song(s) I would want to hear by any band, if I could choose. With new material on the way coupled with the shortened setlists, I just don't see it happening.
I don't know how many of these I've done, but this is what I'd go with right now.
Flood
Jambi
EBA/The Patient
Swamp Song
H
Third Eye
