My buddy and I will be there coming from the Rockville area. Actually technically I'll be coming from the So-Cal area and very happily and conveniently just visiting family/friends during the same time Tool will be in the area.
Oh yeah, if anyone has 2 extra tickets for sale shoot me a PM.
I'll be heading down from about an hour east of Pittsburgh. Should only be about a 3 or 3.5 hour drive, not bad at all. Only a little bit over 30 days!!!
Cool, #5 for me too. I'm taking a first timer with me and I am excited to see what she thinks about it all since she I think she is mostly a country music fan.
As long as I don't get fucked by stubhub I'll coming up from SC to take my bro-in-law to his first tool show. What is the tailgating situation going to be like on the GMU campus?
Less than a month to go! Trying to keep my mind on other things so that July moves fast, but that is hard to do when I am drawn to this forum daily, lol.
How will access to the "arena" be prior to the show? Can we park there early and hangout or anything or do they not let us in to park until close to show time? I'm heading down around noon and have had good luck meeting the band at other locations on show day previously.

I looked, but I couldn't find anything. I suggest calling the Patriot Center and asking them about their parking during events. I am curious too, since the lots are probably used by GMU staff and students during the week.
But its the middle of the summer. Somebody needs to make that phone call. Its on a college campus so drinking in the parking lot may be out....or maybe its july and nobody gives a shit.

Got a reply.....
"There is plenty of parking proximate to the venue, as this is a university campus.
The doors will open at 6:30p and the parking lots will be available after 4:00p.
There are no restroom facilities available until the building opens. However, University Mall is across Braddock Rd. from the campus and features Brion's Grille, Fat Tuesdays and McDonald's, as well as a deli and a sushi restaurant."
We should know soon. Tool's first non-festival date is in less that 2 weeks. I am 100% certain that whoever the opening band is, their performance will be 100x more enjoyable that Melt Banana. I respect when bands bring along openers that are different and unique, but I felt like my ears were being punished during Melt Banana's set in 2007.
Saw the Killers at this venue over the winter. Acoustics were pretty good. Not nearly as big as an arena like the Gwinnett center. Was pretty tipsy but I recall there being little parking directly adjacent to the arena. I clearly remember the long walk and the many spills I took on the frozen sidewalk. Parking was all over the campus with no control. You could come and go as you saw fit. No security roaming the lots and there was some tailgating. Definitely the best idea, there are no good bars within walking distance. Some great bars just a short drive if you want to risk it. Fairfax Co. Police are relentless and unforgiving though.

These last three weeks are going to drag by.
Sounds like a pretty good situation.
I can't wait! Well, since I have yet to figure out how to make time go faster, I guess I have to.
Is it just me or does everyone else desperately want them to play the "Salival" version of "Pushit." I know whatever they play will be awesome but that's been my favorite since the first time i heard it and it would be nice to hear it live. I'm bringing along a buddy who has never seen them before. He said this is a pretty small arena (10000 Max Capacity) so it should be an awesome show. Just sucks that the tickets were instantly sold out because of scalpers, had to pay 300 for a pair that retails for 140. Oh well it will be well worth it!

Re: 07.30.09 - Fairfax, VA @ Patriot Center - Tix available
Hey guys,
I upgraded my tickets and have two available in section 130, row V. They are kinda high up (close in) but I sat in similar seats in this arena years ago for STP and the view of the stage was good.
Email me back if interested.

Anyway, I'm off of the forum until the 30th for the purpose of set list avoidance. If there happens to be any pre-show gatherings anywhere, send me a PM and let me know.
Leave a little early, you just never know with DC area traffic. Have a great time at the show everyone!
I'll be headed up to this show which will be my 4th time seeing Tool. Lateralus tour in Richmond, 10k days tour in richmond, and also 10k days tour in winston-salem. Hoping to hear some old favorites.
Will be getting there kinda early to avoid any DC traffic.
I'm also torn about viewing the setlists in advance or not. Hmm...
I just do not see what the benefit is to knowing the set list? Unless you are considering selling your tickets if you do not like how the set list looks, why would you want to know it? Wasn't Christmas morning always more fun when you didn't know what you were getting?
Alright, I've decided to stay away from the boards all the way up until the show. I've always kinda known what to anticipate going into a show, so this will be a first.
Everybody enjoy the show!! Will be back after it to chat.

Eh, I've gone to concerts knowing what songs they're playing... and gone to shows not knowing. It really hasn't changed my experience either way. Tool practically play the same setlists every show anyway, so I'm actually able to manage my expectations better by knowing what songs to expect.

Yeah, I said I was going to avoid it, but when push came to shove, I couldn't help but look at the set from Denver last night. I am interested to see how tonight's non-festival set list looks.
I've seen them eight times, and it never matters if you have an idea about the setlist. It's always different, always exciting. I've never felt like I've seen the same show twice. And even if the setlist didn't slightly variate, which it will, it gives you the opportunity to take in the many different aspects of their show.
The first few times all I could do was essentially close my eyes and let the music carry me. Now that I have a firmer grasp on the music it's easier to absorb the visual experience and the whole picture. It will be phenomenal as it always has been regardless of the notions you carry.
