I hope so. No Quarter is not a good opening song. Third Eye is and forever will be the best opening song to any concert ever.

Yeah, I was getting at there being a point where the vocals being missing is a touch too distracting/disruptive to the overall composition. If the "I don't mind" scream wasn't in H, i feel like that big moment in the middle of the song would feel too empty. It's almost not worth it. The end of eulogy as instrumental could work (imo)... but again, there's a line that's crossed at some point.

If they were coming to chicago and going to play an arena, there would be a LOT of songs I'd love to hear... but I'd rather hear them play as varied a set as possible that maynard can still execute at near 100%.

...That's also +2hrs with no silly intermission clock.

If that means, Schism,Stinkfist,46&2,Aenima,Lateralus,Jambi all get played, so be it. Just because they get played a lot doesn't diminish the fact that I like those songs.

Personally, (while I'm not going to any show this year) I'd like to see them add Flood into the set because it's been largely absent since 07. Include Third Eye, Opiate, and D/R/T and you've got yourself a damn Tool show as good as any other.

Cool as a rarity but not the energy for an opener in my HO.

I'd like to see Stinkfist or The Grudge make a return or better yet Intolerance

Juan said to us on the VIP session that Tool played Eulogy before the first night of the back to back in SF of the 2014 tour.

Tool have sound checked Eulogy a number of times of late, but never actually gone on to play it. I think it's one of those songs that is beyond Maynard's vocal capacity these days, and is unlikely to be included.

I don't see where you guys are getting this "beyond his vocal range" thing from. He sounds just fine on live recordings. I just think he takes out the taxing scream in grudge/pushit because hes 50 years old and wants to maintain his voice as long as possible. I feel like its more of a smart calculated tactic rather than he just can't sing it any more. He surely can sing it well enough to be played live.

I never figured we would get H again. Eulogy i could see though considering they have played ticks as well as the grudge recently.

maynard can very easily sing Eulogy live. he would obviously use his talk-box device (that he uses for lots of Puscifer, plus Hooker with a Penis, some of stinkfist, etc.) for the vast majority of the song, and then would simply skip the ending scream, just like he did for the grudge.

You mean megaphone?

He rarely uses that for Puscifer, actually. Tool, on the other hand... Nearly every song.

Who are you, and what have you done with Kanaduh?

I respectfully disagree. Eulogy is a much harder song to sing than The Grudge. Nor does it suit the use of a megaphone.

I think there is a good reason we haven't seen it played, and that's because Maynard/Tool are unhappy with how it sounds given what they'd have to do to achieve it.

IDK maynard seemed to hit the "Saturn ascends" in the grudge. I don't see why he would struggle with Eulogy if he can hit that. Other than the screaming parts i don't see the reason to hold it out of the set. Maybe he won't sound quite as good as he did in the mid 90's, but for those who didn't get to see them back then, including myself, do we really care that it doesn't sound exactly like the album? I really just want to hear some of these songs before i die lol.

I liked No Quarter as a novelty opener but I agree it slows the opening of the show and does not have the sonic rush like the other openers that Tool is famous for.

I doubt there will be many surprises as far as setlists go. This mini-mini tour will probably be similar to the Jan tour in that they haven't had much time to rehearse. I'm hoping there will be more new material, besides Descending, mixed into the extended jams. The Salt Lake City show will tell us a lot about what they feel like playing for their "true fans" on their solo shows.

Personally I would like to see Hooker or Eulogy again.

Has anyone heard any rumors about the opener for the solo shows?

I don't think they've played a festival since they revamped the visuals to do festival-specific setup, have they? If not, that would be something new for this "tour" at least...

I do get sick of the whole "we wont ever get that song again" talk though.

Like my buddy said i remember when grudge, hooker, ticks and third eye were all talked about with songs like H and jimmy.

I personally don't mind if Maynard sings parts of songs instead of screams like he does on the album due to current vocal abilities. To me, Tool has never been a band that needs to sound like the albums note for note. For example, recently Maynard has sung the last words of Opiate ("To rape you") instead of screaming it. It sounded different from the album, but it still sounded good to me. I'm sure there are times that the screams wont translate well to singing, but I do feel like it can work for some songs.
But I know there are a lot of people who want to hear the album note for note. Although I personally don't mind the megaphone, I can understand why people aren't into it. Hell, I'm sure there are people who don't even like jamming between or in the middle of their songs because that's not what on the records.

They have new videos for Descending. You can see them on You Tube cuts of the song.

I think I remember Junior telling us somewhere that they didn't have much time to work up a whole new visual set for the January tour since it was announced on relatively short notice. The guys have some new lights and/or lasers that they are incorporating but its not a completely new show because they did not have the time to work it out like a "US/World Tour" timeline would have given them.

I would expect the same for this go around. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Just take different drugs this time and it will look new to you ;)

Hell, I'm sure there are people who don't even like jamming between or in the middle of their songs because that's not what on the records.
fuck it, if MJK can't do it as-is just come up with a new arrangement for the song and cover yourself. Maybe then the setlist will be longer than 100 minutes.

The guys have some new lights and/or lasers that they are incorporating but its not a completely new show because they did not have the time to work it out like a "US/World Tour" timeline would have given them.

I would expect the same for this go around. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Just take different drugs this time and it will look new to you ;)
Right, I don't think it was ready for the January minitour. I'd think it may be ready for primetime for this microtour. If Junior's around, maybe he can inform.

I passed on this run. I have a lot of friends that went to the first leg of the tour and thoroughly enjoyed the show.

I did see ozzy 5-6 years ago though and it was horrible. It was the first concert i have ever sat down for the majority of the show.

I went to San Jose and LA. Both were off the charts awesome. Tony is KILLING it. Oz can be hit or miss, he's worn down a bit as the tour goes around the world, Im waiting to see if they swap a song or two out when they come back around, but may go again in Sept.

But I'm pretty sure you won't regret going.. : )
