He did not embrace the present which is the higher spriritual knowledge he was trying to access in the need-to-know pose, but rather reacted, not seeing the present in its form exists and to step into the moment.

The alien represents the unknown future form that will happen, the very next moment in your life is a surprise that the self feeds on, and needs.
