Re: 2006/09/08 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center

Maynard! Why do you fuck with us so?!

We absolutely love it.

The re-arranging from last night was an excellent change. I was very worried that it would follow the exact same pattern. Even though this was a tighter show than last night, I feel like the Thursday concert was much more emotional and inspiring.

But then again, maybe that's because last 10,000 Days was the shock of the evening, while tonight it was absolutely essential.

Nonetheless, Tool is an experience that can not ever been missed.

Lost Keys (Blame Hofmann)
Rosetta Stoned
Stinkfist
The Pot
Forty-Six & 2
Jambi
Schism

Vicarious
Aenema
Wings for Marie
10,000 Days

Great show. The vocals were a little muddy I thought. Wings sounded 10 times better tonight than it did last night. I was a little higher up and more towards the center of the arena, and it was awesome to be able to really look at both the videos and the band. Maynard didn't say much (although more than last night), he mostly just bitched and moaned about VIPs and LA sucking.

Although the didn't play any new songs from last night, the rearranging of the order was refreshing. And in my opinion, Lateralus is a much better closer than Aenema.

Re: 2006/09/08 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center

What a show!! The seating on the floor was gay. I had a better view at the Bakersfield show and the sound was better there too. But the L.A. crowd was more receptive as we should and the boys appreciated it. Staples Center was LOUD.

Maynard under the weather? A Maynardism " could been at the bus jerking off to some porn dvd's"

The highlights of course was Jambi, Rosetta Stoned, Wings/10,000 days and Lateralus.

10,000 days rawked!!!

Re: 2006/09/08 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center

Amazing-again! We had most of the same songs as last night but in a slightly different order. We didn't get Right in Two, but as you can see from the setlist we got Wings for Marie and 10K Days. When the band started with Rosetta Stoned I was hoping we would get a setlist with some different songs, but I wasn't disappointed.

This was my last show for this tour, and the band was great. I'm so glad Maynard is singing where we can see him and witness the connection he has with his bandmates. It is really incredible. Once again another awesome show I'm so glad I experienced.

What an amazing experience going to see Tool both nights at the Staples Center. Both shows were uniquely different, yet equally amazing. And going tonight with my three best buds made it even better. Thank you TOOL.

Re: 2006/09/08 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center

We were a little bit late, and I guess we missed meeting up with anyone, and some dicks below us started throwing drinks up and ruined the last bit of the last song, put a bit of a damper on things but great show. Seemed a bit short though.

EDIT:

I thought the show was great - as did my wife for whom it was a first time seeing Tool, though she's been a fan as long as anyone here - was hoping to see more visuals during "Rosetta" and pleasantly surprised when they included the "Lost Keys" intro. It was cool how they gradually brought more visuals in as the show progressed. The acoustics weren't the best, but not the worst, either... I could understand the lyrics quite well (with the exception of "Rosetta," heh) despite being up in the 300's. Maynard's comments were hard to understand a couple times, though. It was a good view of the stage, lasers (which didn't look too cheesy from where we were), and screens. I'd still like to see some different songs in the set, maybe they'll mix it up a little more if they come back around next year. The alternate versions were a nice spin, though.

Re: 2006/09/08 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center

Just got home.

In a nutshell, great show, great visuals, they were sick/under the weather...or 'perhaps we are allergic to L.A.' as Maynard said.

Musically spot on, loved Rosetta, Jambi, and Lateralus...we got shorted Right In Two and Sober, but I had a great time.

Most nazi security ever. Oh I loved the Schism speed-up. Wings sounded great too.

I was 10th row center...I'm looking forward to seeing them do a different set next tour. No complaints this time, but since it was an 11 song set, that means there's 30 others I can't wait to hear live sometime.

Cheers Tool, get well soon...thanks for Wings

Re: 2006/09/08 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center

Loved the new setlist order. I think it made sense to tinker with it a bit and try to find a true home for Wings/10,000 Days. Tonight the pieces of the puzzle just seemed to fit better than last night, and gone was the angst over performing Wings for the first time. I did not think any show could top last night's, but I was wrong. Tonight was more fluid and tighter (cept I was missing Right In Two). I had a great time!

Big 'Hello' to all my new TDN friends that I met at the Harbor bar. A real pleasure to meet all of you. Let's hope we can do all of this again real soon.

Tonight was my first Tool show, although I have been a fan since longer than I can remember, and all I have left to say is: that was so god damn beautiful.

Re: 2006/09/08 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center

I had a great time. I was in PR3 both nights, and tonight the band was just more together. The lasers were better tonight but the sound seemed far less flawless with a couple mishaps (except for 10kdays/wings). Still f'n awesome. I far prefer lateralus as the closing song compared to Aenema. Staples center concert security getting in was the least obtrusive search ever. It was like going to a Clipper game. they didnt frisk you or check your pockets, jsut a walk through a metal detector. During Aenema, Maynard sang the 'fuck all you junkies and fuck your short memories' verse 3 times as he did in Bakersfield as well

Re: 2006/09/08 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center

Great show, even evil security couldn't put a damper on it. I didn't expect too many surprises, to be honest, but I definitely got a few.To name a few... Lost Keys/Rosetta as the opener, and the lasers (which had clouds in them every now and then, anyone else notice that/ I didn't even know that was possible). I thought Isis rawked pretty hard, too.

And to all the nice folks who met at the bar, it was great meeting all of you, hope you enjoyed the show.

Wings for Marie
10,000 days

wow

very emotional. the visuals were amazing (dark flowing clouds). i watched with my mouth open the whole time. i looked around to see couples embracing each other, and there was a smile on my face. and seeing adam give maynard a hug after the song was the icing on the cake. i wish on everything that i could have gone to both nights, but in a way i feel for me personally that seeing tool several times would spoil it. right now i have this sad, happy feeling. like i want more, but i can't have anymore until maybe a year from now.

got to meet some interesting people. ran into an old friend that i hadn't seen in over 5 years. overall great night.

I was drawn to tears...it was so beautiful. One of the greatest nights of my life. The lasers were sick. Everyone was flawless...the new double time part in schism was amazing....the setlist was to die for.

I don't know what to say about tonights performance as, i thought last nights was better then tonights. Granted we again were blessed with the exception of sober tonight (really guys, they have far better songs performed live in thier limited stage time). I'd post more but i have to report to work tomorrow to perform network maintenence. I'll post more tomorrow. Thanks for the beer Laura!!!

Re: 2006/09/08 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center

I went to both shows and they both had their advantages. The first one got Right in Two which I would have loved to hear during the second one, and the new solo during stinkfist during the second show was wiiiicked. Also, best Wings for Marie has ever sounded for me...I like the song(s) a lot more now. Some of you probably saw us, we were directly diagnoal to the main entrance of the Staples center in the parking lot with a bigass black truck blasting 10,000 days....one of the guys with us was trying to sell his TOOL pipe he made last night....he still has one left that I may have to buy. Anyway, great shows.

Re: 2006/09/08 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center

Ok this was my 7th Tool show since 2001. Isis were great, short but sweet set. I was really dissapointed by some things. The band was dead on most of the time. The sound was horrible though, too loud and everything was echoing becoming a huge wall of noise at times. Danny's drums sounded really bad for some reason. I'm guessing cause Staples Center's sound suck ass. It's meant for basketball and hockey not music.

Maynard obviously doesn't give a shit anymore and it shows, he was so unanimated and off-key a lot, messed up some lyrics. Maybe cause he was sick? He just seems like a rockstar asshole now. The light shows (lasers, christmas lights) were extremly tacky, cheap and stupid. Something you'd expect to see at a Def Lepperd show in 1987. Videos were impossible to see from the floor.

Overall band played great with shitty sound/shitty Maynard and you should wait until they change the bad stage set-up to see them live if you haven't yet.

P.S. - Wings was truthfully kind of boring, most people left to take bathroom breaks and stuff like that during the whole thing.

Re: 2006/09/08 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center

^^ I agree with you on some points.

This is my 5th tool show since 1997 and i can honestly say it was the worst. Every show prior to this one, i felt uplifted, tingly throughout. But tonight’s show just seemed boring, i think the band was pretty unenthused. Maynard rarely spoke, which i know is maynardesque but usually he has some positive words to say that make you think, and you take home with you. This time its just "im sick" and im going to jack off in the trailer.. wow inspiring nard!

I thought the sound was pretty shitty too, maybe its where I sat but you couldnt really pick much out, it was muddled together and just plain LOUD in a bad way. Tool has been loud before, but not to the point where it affects sound quality. The croud here in LA didnt seem too enthusiastic, not too many people got off their asses where i was (right of the stage, in some bleachers) There was this one chick on X who was quite fun to watch, she was really getting into 10,000 days. She would sway and rub her tits and do some very sexual things, i even caught a peek at her when she was rubbing her 'fun zone' for a couple of seconds.

The video's were boring, im disappointed there was no video for Rosetta stoned this time. I liked the old lateralus setup, very colorful and the two tv screens were the best setup IMO.

Anyways, i will always be a fan and will continue to support them live, i just hope next tour picks up a bit. I remember the second go around of lateralus was better than their first, so hopefully this is the same case

I just almost felt bad...like "this can't be...I'm getting bored at a Tool show!" one of my favorite bands. Oh well, every band ever has played bad shows/shitty venues, so what the hey.

I'll check back in with them again next tour.

Re: 2006/09/08 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center

Words can not describe how awesome this show, my first Tool show, was. The setlist, I felt, was perfect with Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned as the opener and Wings/10,000 Days during the "encore." They absolutely nailed Wings! And Lateralus! Holy shit! The sound was bad in the beginning for Rosetta Stoned (could barely hear Maynard until the "Overwhelmed as one would be..." part, where I could hear him clearly. Maybe that's just how it's supposed to sound on that song though since every other song was pretty clear? Anyways, first Tool show and I am very pleased with the result! It was AMAZING. Best concert I've ever seen. Hands down. Although I was somewhat disappointed that they didn't play Right In Two...not a big deal though.

I was kind of worried that they wouldn't play Wings last night, but when Vicarious rolled around before the "encore," I knew what we were in store for. As I said before, they nailed it.

Anyways, great show and one that I'll never forget. I hope I can catch them next time around, maybe next year.

Haha, and as you guys said before, security was a BITCH.

All in all, great show, best I've been to, yadda yadda.

Re: 2006/09/08 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center

Tool part 7 for me. A flawless evening from every standpoint. Somehow me and my buddy got from San Diego to LA in 3 hours during Friday afternoon rush hour, so we had plenty of time to get sweet parking and put down a few before the show. Security was good to us. Pointed us right to our 20th row seats. Being 6'3" the seating on the floor is ideal because I could see everything, including Maynard's feet waiving back and forth when the band was sitting together on stage.

I had never seen Rosetta Stoned live. The song has so much energy and should be the start of every Tool show I believe. The new twists in Stinkfist and Schism are amazing, its always fascinating to hear something you've never heard before. The mouth guitar solo in Jambi is my favorite part in any Tool song, and its even better live. Wings part I and II, what can I say, those songs are the most well written songs I've ever heard.

If Maynard was sick I commend him for sucking it up so we could enjoy the show. To the people putting down the quality of the show I'm guessing you didn't notice Maynard repeated the line "Fuck all you junkies and Fuck your short memory."

Re: 2006/09/08 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center

My sixth Tool show. Awesome. While we didn't hear anything they didn't already play last night (and even got one song fewer), it more than made up for the shitfest which was Street Scene. I'll post more very soon, but I'm need to eat first. I just really didn't want to be on the eighth or ninth page here. Meh.

EDIT: All righty then.

Picture this if you will:

10 to 6 pm, listening to "Right in Two" on the tail end of a marathon Opiate/Undertow/Ænima/Lateralus/10,000 Days session to prepare myself for my sixth Tool concert, fantasizing about what they might play tonight when just then my flaming friend Pat knocked on my door like I had expected him to a half hour ago. Finishing the song and driving up to Hell-Ay for the show and paying for parking left us yelping, "Holy fucking shit. $25.00 for this shady little parking lot."

Inside, the X-Files beings known as TDNers were congregating at the Harbor Bar, basking in their own Toolish nerdiness and waiting for a brown guy in a black Tool shirt to come grace us with his Ivy League presence. I didn’t have time to buy The Leader a beer because he didn’t arrive until about 8:45 and we had to get up to the nosebleed section in time for the show; I was flattered, however, when he said, "I’ve known your name for fucking years," and even more flattered when, drunk on the power of his own website, he grabbed my ass and whispered something about me being his chosen one as I walked away, heading to the bathroom so that the Jack-and-Cokes wouldn’t make me piss my fucking pants.

Okay, I’ll stop that. Anyway, the show was awesome. I wanted to do a little song-by-song, as I don’t think I’ve ever written a review that way before. Enjoy.

ROSETTA STONED
After a minute or two of "Lost Keys," Maynard took the stage walking slowly back and forth, and I wondered if I was the only one who was reminded of Bill Hicks (maybe it was the cowboy hat). There were some serious sound problems early on, as the vocals were entirely too quiet, but things improved toward the end of the song (in time for the "Overwhelmed as one would be" section, which is my favorite part of the new record). Very cool to see this, as the caveman antics of the meatheads at Street Scene had cost us this song. Unfortunately, there were no visuals (and that was the only toolband.com newsletter I had ever read in its entirety), but I still really enjoyed it.

STINKFIST
One of the best jams I’ve heard them do. Lights were very cool, and the stage definitely had some kind of backlighting that was badass. It was after this song that Pat’s girlfriend, a Tool concert virgin (and very inexperienced even with their music), turned to him and said, "That was incredible." Also, the sound mix was very good by this point.

THE POT
Full-on visuals now. I don’t know if they had problems early on or what. Nothing really to report except for the slower intro and, as always, the cool visuals.

FORTY-SIX & 2
I actually went to the bathroom at the beginning of this song (the Jack-and-Cokes went right through me, and I knew this was likely to be my least favorite song played that night), returning in time for Danny’s drum solo. The Ouroboros visuals were quite cool; I saw the lone one in the beginning and the tunnel of them later on. I’d actually like to see the whole thing at some point.

JAMBI
Oh, man, this song is so good live. This was probably my favorite at Street Scene (and second favorite tonight; you know why). Some of the better visuals of the current tour, and just a rocking song. They should consider opening (or even closing) with this, I think.

SCHISM
Didn’t really remember the "double-time" section from San Diego, so very enjoyable.

VICARIOUS
This song is so good live. I like that they now pause before the second verse. It seems they were really thinking about their live show with the new record; some of these songs just have opportunities for cool little flourishes built right in.

ÆNEMA
Maynard made it sound like this would be the last song, and since they’ve closed every (?) show with it this year, I was a little worried. It had only been about an hour. "They can't be finished yet," I thought. LA is the best place to see this song, and Maynard’s repetition of "Fuck retro anything" section was a gift from God, as it got the obnoxious, off-key motherfucker next to me to shut up for a few seconds.

WINGS FOR MARIE
So, I think everyone was expecting this. Adam’s guitar was a little drowned out by Maynard near the beginning, but things quickly sounded incredible, minus the crowd screaming. Why is it that everyone has to be loud whenever the band is quiet? Pretty flawless performance leading right into . . .

10,000 DAYS
Just amazing. There’s not really much I can say about this two-part epic; you just need to see it. Maynard came in too early at the "Hallelujah" line, but the band covered for him nicely. I think the most impressive thing about this was the vocals, which were absolutely perfect. Justin’s playing and tone were excellent, too. Danny tried some new rolls (some more successful than others), and Adam's raw tone was actually kind of welcome, providing an interesting contrast.

LATERALUS
Justin’s bass was a little too quiet, but this was overall one of the best performances of the night. I’ll always think "Ænema" is a better closer, but it was kind of refreshing to see this instead. While the visuals were great all night, they were probably strongest during this and the magnum opus before it. I like the spiral of people.

To wrap this up, I’ll just say that this was one of the best Tool shows I’ve seen. The band was excellent, and even though we missed out on "Right in Two," I like that they changed up the setlist a little, even if it was just the sequence. It actually kept me guessing, as I wondered after "Rosetta Stoned," "Ænema," and "10,000 Days," "Are they going to surprise us? Is this going to be the let’s-go-crazy show?" I couldn’t be disappointed with "Wings" and "10,000 Days"; they could have played Green Day covers for the rest of the show and I wouldn’t complain. See them. On this tour. And every tour.

Anyone else take the 405 South to get home? Who decided it was a good idea to take the freeway down to one lane at Beach Blvd AT MIDNIGHT ON A FRIDAY?

PS - Kabir, Mike, et al, it was great to meet you. See you next time, I hope.

PPS - Where is Peeping Tom? Tool gets Fantomas and Tomahawk to open for them, but when mike Patton does his first good thing since Faith No More, he’s nowhere to be found. I didn’t bother to watch Isis. At the very least, bring Tricky back, Tool.

Re: 2006/09/08 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center

This was my first Tool concert, I was sitting in a suite off to the right. It just didn't sound right, too loud and too muddy. I wasn't really impressed with a song until Lateralus, which I thought was incredible. I did enjoy the Jambi solo, it always sends chills down my spine and last night was no different. But, I think I need to see them at another venue, because the glass suite and being 10 feet from two columns of speakers probably didn't help me.

Re: 2006/09/08 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center

Sorry for the long post, I don’t do this very often and I have a lot to say right now.

This was my 8th TOOL show this year, I was at Coachella, I saw them up close in Vegas and in Tempe, almost lost my life in San Diego but somehow remained front row center for the entire show. I spent both nights camping at the Gorge, (What an after party!!) 4th row in Marysville, enjoyed my visit to beautiful Bakersfield and was there for Fridays Staples center show. This was my 32nd TOOL show, here's what I think of the 2006 Tour.

The band sounds tight, Danny has never been better, he continues to grow as a musician each day, he has a TRUE passion for percussion and it shows. Justin is always rock solid, I love effects he is doing on the new songs. Adam seemed to be struggling at times, but was overall on cue.

I saw Maynard sing Joni Mitchell’s fiddle and a drum at the LA axis of Justice Show a few years back. He was wearing jeans, a tight white g-mart t-shirt, and a cowboy hat. Cool!! I was surprised to see him wearing the same outfit at Coachella, what!!! He’s still wearing it? What happened to that painted, glowing shadow daemon that we all came to love. He's not even moving up there. He may have been sick last night, but he hasn't moved once at any of the eight shows I’ve seen. He may have a bad ankle or something else that we don’t know about, but if not, I am at a loss for words.

The stage setup looks great from up high, especially when they get everything going, but there is too much white for my liking. The lasers are Gay and the set list has been pretty boring so far. I did get to hear Opiate 2 times so I guess I can't complain too much. I don’t know if I’ve changed or if TOOL has, sometimes you just don’t see straight if you know what I mean.

TOOL will always be TOOL, I know that. It’s not up to me to decide what the stage set up looks like, or to choose the set list. Maynard can continue to stand still and ride his mike stand like a cowboy, it’s not up to me. I have forever and will always be a FAN in the true sense of the word. To date, I have not felt this way about a TOOL tour, I only pray that heaven knows when to lift them out. Because after 32 days in the fire, I’m going home.

Some of you probably saw us, we were directly diagnoal to the main entrance of the Staples center in the parking lot with a bigass black truck blasting 10,000 days....one of the guys with us was trying to sell his TOOL pipe he made last night....he still has one left that I may have to buy. Anyway, great shows.
your friend was selling the pipe for 200 $ ha i was interested in buying it though

the visuals during lateralus were very good and it was the perfect song to end on. i was seated pretty high up so i couldnt see the band that well, they looked like ants. during roseta stoned maynard was walking around a lot i thought that was cool. i thought it was a pretty short set and i wanted to see reflection live. but the vibe was really good and tight performance.

Re: 2006/09/08 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center

This was my third show and I cannot express how unbelievably jacked up for the experience I was before the show began. I went with a long-time friend who had never seen TOOL play before but is a huge fan of their craft.

We were seated in PR9 and for the first 3 songs or so, I actually thought this was some kind of joke being played on the crowd by a band that resembled TOOL, and then the four horsemen were going to pop out from behind the stage and say "HA HA! Gotcha! Now let's really get this show started." The sound was horrific. Muddled, disjointed and impossible to discern any actual lyrics. I saw the first show of the season at Coachella in April and they were unbelievably tight and the sound was fantastic. Much better stage layout too. It has to be an arena problem. Staples just isn't designed with acoustics in mind. The other thing I noticed was that the first three songs didn't have visuals on the jumbo-tron hanging in the center. I actually sat down as the second song started, feeling completely dejected by how off it felt. I actually contemplated leaving at one point because I couldn't believe this was the same band.

It wasn't until I started walking about outside in the hallway and listening from various angles that I could actually believe it was really TOOL playing. I grabbed my friend and we 'befriended' a bunch of guys in a private box located center stage. From that point forward the show was excellent. You could actually hear the instruments and not just a deluge of unintelligble sound. Maynard's voice was definitely off though.

Overall, it was not the mind-blowing, uplifting, spiritually gratifying experience I have come to count on from their music. Something was just off. I have to catch them again at an outdoor venue on this tour, hopefully when Maynard is at 100% again. I loved the repetition of "fuck all you junkies and fuck your short memory's"....Maynard is hysterical when he wants to be.

Thanks to Jason and the rest of the folks in the box that allowed Jordan and I to share your vantage point and gave us seats front and center! You kick ass! If it wasn't for that saving grace, I would have left feeling somehow cheated.

Thanks to the band for sharing Wings/10,000 Days. Would have like to hear Right in Two, but Lateralus definitely rocked as usual. New visuals are excellent!

Re: 2006/09/08 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center

I want to apoligize to Kabir because I didn't get to buy him a beer. I was walking in circles with my Towelie shirt on in the area we were supposed to meet and greet. Maybe I was in the wrong area? I was by the food/drinking area by section 101. I'm a towel so anything is possible. Nobody called me over and I didn't recognize anyone so, I just ordered some beer for myself and went to find my seat.

I want to give out thanks to Tool. Thank you for last night. I appreciated the encore. That was special. I appreciate the band hanging out on stage during the break. I had my lighter out for as long as I could (my fingers started burning).

Memorable moments for me:

1. Breaking out the pipe and getting high to The Pot.
2. Hugging my dear friend Shane during Jambi. He kept telling me not to cry but I did.
3. I felt at home and so did everyone including the band. There was a lot of respect and admiration for everyone who paid to be there.
4. Wings for Marie / 10,000 Days was Awesome. I miss you Dad. The crowd witnessed and accepted sorrow. So did our friend Maynard. And, so did I.

Thanks everyone. You guys were a great crowd to hang with.

Re: 2006/09/08 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center

I went last night and thought that the sound was really loud, but not muddled at all. I guess it boils down to where you were seated. I was in the KCAL/CBS box (A-42) and saw & heard everything. The lasers were not Def Leppard-ish as mentioned above, they were very cool from above. Set list was very nice even though with so much talk of Right In Two I was a tad dissapointed. The stage itself was very cool if you saw it from above as it mirrored the jumbo screens. Favorite songs were Wings/10,000 Days and ROSETTA STONED! You really have to high-five the band for mixing up these shows. By the way, 5th show since 1996 and they never fail to impress the hell out me.

Oops, neglected to mention the voice-box on Jambi. Adam's the man!

Re: 2006/09/08 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center

First Tool show. I wish I would've seen them earlier on this tour so the addition of "Wings" would have been more powerful. I guess I did miss out from the Thursday show.

I was seated in row 12 of section 301, so I was way up. It wasn't bad at all, even when Isis played. Couldn't hear the vocals at all but the music was pretty atmospheric and the band was definitely into it. I may have to check them out.

I thought Danny's set was bigger in real life but I was so high up it didnt really matter. After Lost Keys they went into Rosetta Stoned, which is a great song, I just didn't favor it as an opener. As an earlier post stated, I couldn't hear any vocals clearly until the "overwhelmed as one might be...." part. Still was sweet...I wish there were visuals though.

When they went into Stinkfist, that set me off. They had the screens on the stage and everything and it was tight as heck. The extended middle was nice too, it made the song much more climactic. I didn't much get to enjoy 46 & 2 because the two idiots next to me claimed I was in their seat but they were in the wrong section. The fool had to get out his lighter and look at his tickets, our tickets, and then in turn proceed to ask those around him what section he was in. Thankfully him and his friend left after that song. I did get to catch Danny's drum solo in the song, which was breathtaking to say the least. The end was rocking as well.

Now I know that most kids who think of Tool think of Schism, and that there are far better pieces by them....but I almost lost it on that song. Especially when they sped up the middle and had the whole thing synced to the videos. Friggin amazing. I wanted to cry during Jambi because that is one of my favortie Tool songs (it goes in phases, Pushit, Prison Sex, etc) right now. As stated before the talk box solo was awesome and a nice touch. I know I forgot to mention the Pot but I wont say much besides that Maynard started singing and let the crowd finish the first line.....my friend didnt know what was going on. Good song though.

The spacey intro to Vicarious kills me every time. The whammy on the bass is just so lovely, I can't get enough of it. I thought it sounded nice and Danny's fill after the first chorus sounded perfect. Justin's little mini-solo and the orgasmic end were both just fantastic. Loved it, the visuals, the lights, etc.

I read the reviews from the previous night had learned that Aenema was the closer...didn't mind, but when they played it after Vicarious, I was kinda happy. It was still amazing and was funny as heck to hear live. The build-up at the end left me out of breath as the band sat down to take a breather as well. I knew that Wings was coming so I braced myself. I couldnt even really hear Adam's guitar in the beginnig and caught Maynard's vocals around the "you believed in me" part. Somebody needed to turn up the mic.....and what can I say about 10,000 days except that it owned.

Could't have been happier about the band's choice of playing Lateralus last. A very very epic song and it's length suited the finale well. I wanted to like float away on a spiral or something, it was awesome. I understand we got cheated out of Right In Two and the two old guys next to me kept saying something about "they have to play Sober, they have to...". Whatever. All I know is it went way too fast.

Glad I went, I know it compares nothing to shows they've had based on what some of you say but it was my first so I have nothing to compare it to.

Re: 2006/09/08 - Los Angeles, CA - Staples Center

Random thought - security almost completely ruined the show for me. They barged into my row 6 times to do such heroic things as: tell people they couldn't rest their feet on the empty seats in the row in front of them during the opening act, taking folks' joints and pipes away, etc.

I thought being in the 10th row was awesome, and yeah, they have no business ruining my experience like that to tell people they can't have a joint at a rock concert...at my expense.

They showed up literally half a dozen times in an 11 song set, shining their flashlights and pushing us aside so they could barge through the row. I even looked for a complaint # to call at Staples but of course there is none. A great suggestion for the Staples Center: If you don't want weed being smoked in your venue, don't host rock concerts.

All of these people who say that this show was terrible...what are you smoking? This show was the single best concert I have been to, and I have been to a lot. It will be the concert I compare all others to. If you don't like it, well get better seats next time because I could hear everything perfectly. When I say perfectly, I mean, I didn't miss a lyric. The lights and lasers we amazing, they really added to the whole experience. I LOVED Lateralus as a closer. Best. Concert. Ever.

WOW! Seriously intense show.

Completely baffled as to how they can do something so amazing night after night.

Such a great experience.
