So,
To start I will say I love this album. Second to Lateralus. No doubt.
But the reason for my poaste is that I think this music actually helped a friend of mine.
I have this friend who is ex military and recently he had a PTSD trigger that stopped him from working as a contractor for defence.
We had only recently started to warm up our relationship as mates when this occurred so I did what I could and made sure I visited him every week while he was on sick leave.
I’d been getting in to the new album and one day it dawned on me.
‘Mate, what sort of music do you like?’
‘Oh, you know, rubbish, shit, and other crap’. Not to be judgey but his choices were run of the mill and I wasn’t all that surprised. Not that Tool is all that but it’s more than those losers from Canada.
Me by text: ‘Okay. I think I may have something for you’.
At this point I’d been to my friend’s house and seen a ‘mentioned in dispatches’ certificate on the wall.
I thought, ‘Well fuck this new friend isn’t full of shit and is true about what he has done’.
Anyways, so these songs I think might work for you.... I’ve been listening to the new Tool album lately...
And I think the first three songs are super applicable and might help you out of your current spot...
But..
Not in their album order...
First is Invincible...the weapon out and belly in bit describes you as a true warrior.
Next song is Fear Inoculum as you try and sort through the issue...
And then the triumphant Pneuma (best song on the album) as you break through the horrible fudge.
Radio silence for a while...
Text: ‘Mate time to catch up for a coffee and then we’ll talk about your taste in music’.
Me: Fuck. What have I done this is a new friend.
Coffee time: ‘Mate thank you. You nailed it”.

"Not that Tool is all that but it’s more than those losers from Canada."
Aw, c'mon now. It's a little too soon for that, eh.

I knew there was something better about UtUmNo1!
Great story, good on you for helping a friend and for making a friend. In these days of digital overstimulation, IRLs are all the more treasured.
