Solid show, maynard was pretty animated compared to last time I saw him, doing funny dances and seeming to get more into things. Phenomenal lights/lasers and whatnot.
The jam/duo with the Danny Carey and the drummer from Big Business during Lateralus was absolutely incredible... Reeaaaallly good stuff.
All good except these really obnoxious kids in front of me dancing like they were at a rave or a goth show and talking obnoxiously loudly during any songs that were moderately quiet (especially Wings / 10k days)...

Oh, I nearly forgot to mention my "Fan Club Presale" seats were way off to the side of the stage and had a somewhat obstructed view. Thanks a farking lot, Toolarmy.

Off the top of my head:
"Uh, Hello, I see that you're all here, so, let's get started''
Then during the Drum Jam during Lateralus, it appeared that Maynard walked to Justin, then to the drummer from Big Business, and was giving them some candy. Then walked to his riser, and then tossed one at Danny.
After Lateralus
"[Something about how after all these years, it's still a challenge to play some of the songs] and I thank you very very very very very very very much for not using flash photography during tonights show. It helps us concentrate on performing and allows us to put on a great performance for you. Thank you very much. Now it's time for us to get back to our Pay-Per-View porn at the hotel room, but we have another for you"
It's close, not 100% what he said. I'm tired. I can't remember. Awesome show, except for the retards behind me (Sec. 115) who kept screaming at the top of their lungs during Wings/10k days.
Oh, and the sound was awesome. I could hear Maynard perfectly (except during Wings, he was kinda drowned out). But, the sound overall was awesome. No one instrument dominated over the other.

Big Business played Stairway to Heaven three or four times. That Coady Willis kid looked really into it and he did a great job. It was too bad that the singer dude had to snort shards of glass and eat gravel before coming on the stage to sing tonight.
Maynard was pleasant. Danny + Coady Willis changed people's lives during Lateralus. I don't know why I thought I heard the first few notes of H, I think before Flood. Anybody know what happened with whatever dude they put on the stretcher that was wheeled down the right side of the floor near the rail?
I grew a little disappointed when they went into Lateralus, because I thought they would play Vicarious first. Even though Lateralus seems to be the logical closer of the show to me, I was relieved when they played Vicarious afterward. Too bad for all the suckers who left after Maynard's speech.

Great show compared to last weeks Peoria show. Maynard was in a much better mood, and actually faced the crowd pretty much all night. Seemed there were a few extra lasers too. Definetly glad they added flood and the pot. I also sat next to quite possibly the hottest midget i've ever witnessed!

4. 46 & 2
5. The Pot
6. Schism (extended)
7. Lost Keys
8. Rosetta Stoned
9. Flood (long intro)

10. Wings For Marie Pt. 1
11. 10,000 Days ( Wings Pt. 2 )
12. Lateralus (with Cody from Big Business)
13. Vicarious
Awesome show, don't see why people would complain. We got The Pot and Flood and I am extremely happy with that. Me and my friend were in section 115, I was rocking out pretty much the whole show except for Wings, cant believe some people were moshing during these songs. Someone got carried off on the stretcher which seems like a logical climax for those idiots.
The band seemed to be in great spirits, Maynard was dancing around a lot and his dance during Jambi made my day. Danny, Adam, and Justin were all on tonight as well, Adam seemed more into it compared to his usual presence. Danny was a monster, and his showdown with Cody was one of the highlights. Unfortunately, I saw some people living in the middle of Lateralus and in the beginning of Vicarious, and a lot of people were just sitting down during these last two songs. But I guess to each his own, I like to loose myself to the music.
Can't wait till Summerfest. Free yourself from yourself.

Great show, sound and mix was excellent and as others have stated Maynard also seemed real into the show. Definitely my favorite of the 3 Chicago shows this tour. My seats were a pleasant surpirse seeing as though I got them like 2 weeks ago, and my wife got her wish to hear The Pot....all in all a great night.
OneBigMob you pretty much nailed it as to what was said.... he did add a "Peace...Out" at the end.
And one more thing....Flood absolutely f'n rocked.

My first tool show!!! I've watched countless video's and from what i've read on here, Maynard seemed much more lively than he normally does. His dancing is awesome and did anyone else see him humping the air during lateralus? During the drum solo he threw gummy worms the band members mouths and then teased the crowd with em before tossin the bag in the air.
When big business came on, i thought they sucked ass. But after the first song I started to get into it, they have an awesome drummer. Didn't really care for the guitarist or lead singer/bassist.
FLOOD! This song kicked major ass. I was standing by a few guys who recognized the song, but for the most part it seemed alot of people around me were clueless as to what it was =/.
Maybe the floor sound just wasnt good, but I could barely hear maynards vocals, the instrumentals were fine though.
I would have to say Wings/10kdays was the highlight for me. I always liked the song, but the CD just doesnt do it justice. From the lazers to hearing "Give me my wingggssssss" gives ya goosebumps.
I don't know if i'm a fair judge since this was my first show, but just from watching videos I think this time around the band is playing more for enjoyment and less for sending out a message like it seems they used to do in prior shows. This doesnt necessarily affect their performance, as they seemed totally on tonight. It just seems as if they have become a more in your face band and not the old mysterious, weird, tool that they used to be. But this is just my 2 cents.
I'll add more later as I recall more, still have a natural high ;)

What a great extended weekend.....
I saw THEM in Ft. Wayne Indiana, Hamilton On, St. Paul, and then Chicago.
I caught one of the drum heads/covers in Ft. Wayne after a day of being fed by some older folks I met downtown.
Then in Hamilton Maynard yodels? before the last song. Get your FRIGGIN' TOOL on
Then for St. Paul I get to the arena to find that due to the way they have the seating set my 11th row seats are actually front row. During the show I commented to my friend that Maynard was really into it. The towards the end I thought that there was no way they could top the show that was put on.
Then comes chicago...
My 4th in 5 days and 6th since the 19th of may...
My god...
Some 1sts
Maynard came towards the front of the stage.
The Pot.
Almost made it without anything being thrown onstage,
I 'THINK' maybe i just didnt notice before, that there was a camera above danny during i dont remember which song... but what the camera was watching was being projected onto the screens through sort of a kalidescope. Does anyone know about this?
Oh and the music managed to squeeze water from my eye.
Sound was great maynard was great
Laterlus was better in ST Paul but still great
Awesome show
CAnt wait for summerfest, hamilton and montreal

If I had to pick a religion, it would be TOOL.
I can't even describe how I feel right now. This is my 5th show this tour, 9th show in all. I thought tonights show was the best I've seen yet this tour. The crowd was awesome, I did not see a single flash go off, and nothing was thrown on stage until the very end of Vicarious.
Maynard left his riser (doesn't happen very often anymore) to mess around with Danny and the drummer from Big Business. It was nice to see him in a good mood. When he thanked us for being a respectful crowd, a great sense of pride came over me. Much better than the feeling I had in the pit of my stomach when I left Peoria (sucks).
I was so surprised when we got both The Pot and Flood! No one around me seemed to know Flood. Damn noobs. But that's okay. I was rockin out enough for all of 'em.
I am so glad I had the honor of being there tonight, to again witness musical greatness. Even as I write these words, it just can't sum up how talented and unique this band is, has become. This is my last time getting to see them this tour. I only hope that there will be another tour someday.
Security didn't hassle us at all after we were initially searched. And the smell of Marijuana filled the air as soon as the lights dimmed.
Anyone see the guy get pulled out of the pit who was on Crutches?? Brave, brave soul.
All in all, I couldn't have asked for a more perfect way to end this leg of my TOOL tour. A beautiful, spiritual experience. I will be riding on this high for weeks.
Thank you TOOL for all the wonderful memories. I too, was brought to tears on several occasions. Sometimes the beauty of it all is overwhelming.
Embrace this moment, remember. We are enternal, all this pain is an illusion.

Really good show (my fourth)... took my girlfriend... her first Tool show... she thought it was great. I was in section 102 row 14. I sat next to these two 40+ year old women who were smoking a joint right in our faces... they asked us if we wanted a hit... i almost said yes to purposly destroy it but I wasnt going to piss off anyone that obviously was dumb enough to yell "IM SO FUCKING HIGH" during The Pot.
Every song but Flood I've seen before... I really wanted Pushit. Eh... life is a betch. I thoroughly enjoyed Maynard feeding gummy worms to Danny, Justin, and the toher drummer whatever his name is. Lots of energy... vocals a bit low... everything spot on.
Im very satisfied. Very. Tool always hits the spot.

This was my second show, my first being Bonnaroo. After being completely blown away at Bonnaroo I thoght I'd get a ticket to this show when I got back home. It took me about three songs into the show to realize that it was exactly the same as what had gone down in Tennessee. Afterwards while filing out of the arena I got to talking with some people that told me that's just the way it is!!! What??? I must state that it is my opinion that a mechanic that can only fix cameros is not that great of a mechanic. Unimpressed.

SPIRAL OUT!!!!
My first rock concert ever (The classical ones i've been to don't count; those double basses and percussion instruments don't rattle your bones like Carey can :D)
Man, it was definitely a great experience; one of the best experiences i've ever had in my life. I got a lot more than I was expecting out of this concert: The screens, the lasers, all the little goodies thrown in (The scream in stinkfist, the schism and lateralus jams, oh my god!). Stinkfist was definitely the song tonight for me, and I was really hoping for pushit but flood is still cool (waaaateeerrrrrr.....) Maynard was also really awesome; I loved it when Jambi started and he had that pose right in front of that monitor. He is one cool motherfucker.
What happened with the guy in the stretcher? Saw him getting pulled out and hope everything is ok.
There was this guy right by me trying to start a fight with these two other dudes who kept talking two rows down (which I couldn't even hear them or even noticed them till he was yelling at them. All I could see was them facing each other, not really being too obnoxious but that's not a big issue, get lost in the music would ya?) so that really detracted from parts of Rosetta Stoned and Flood. They eventually went outside and settled things I guess (saw them shake hands a while after they came back). Would've been much better w/o the distraction however. Learn to swim you fucker.
Nitpicky, but something didn't feel right about justin's tone. Whatever, it was still a kick ass show.
In addition maynard commented on how they've performed these songs a million times but it still takes some getting used to to get back into that space, that head space. (or something of that effect)
Venue seemed to be pretty good, got out of the lot in like 5-10 minutes (although I left right as vicarious ended) so I kinda got a head of a lot of people so I don't know if anyone else had to wait longer. Also got to keep my ticket!
I am definitely going to get floor for the next show they do.

Amazing show, no other way to put it. Maynard was in a great mood all night and thanked the crowd for not taking flash pictures because after all these times of playing songs, that it is still hard to get to that special place, and thanked us for being such an intimate crowd. Amazing show, Gottajibbo, like phish huh? Tool is not all about making their set list so much different every night, and it is this that allows them to play with such precision and impeccable timing. Lateralus drum solo anyone? extremely intense, was hoping for Aenema to close, but vicarious will do. Anyways, better than Peoria by a landslide.

Sweet show, I wish some of the people near me on the floor (front right, about 5-8 people from justin) would have realized that moshing was unnecessary. In any case, I was thrown around a bit and still had a phenomenal time.
Go tool.
Edit:
Oh yeah, was it really fucking loud for anyone else? Given I was close to the stack hanging on the right, i would expect it to be loud but seriously. I have seen tool 4 times before this and go to several shows a year and this was the loudest I have ever experienced. My ears are literally still ringing as I type this.

well, most of the positive posters before me have summed up what i would have said about the show. it was pretty awesome. i was really impressed with the sound in the sears centre. i was in section 112, pretty all the way across from the stage, right of center, and it sounded great. the view was really good too. a lot better that it would have been at the allstate if i had the same seat location.
before the show, i kept trying to decide if i'd rather hear them play flood or right in two, and i'm happy they played flood. it's good to hear some older tool from them. and that intermission light/laser/image show was kickass. at one point, i turned to my wife and said i felt like i was being abducted by aliens(i know, i'm a dork). they definitely added more to their show since i saw them at allstate last september. props to the group for that.
overall, there wasn't much more i could ask for from them, and it wouldn't matter if i did anyways! my highlights were flood, lateralus, and the great light and laser show. i do think lateralus would have been better as the closer than vicarious, but what the hell do i know?
thoroughly enjoyable!

ok, i'll post up my $.02
-the venue was really nice. driving all the way out to hoffman estates from chicago was a bit much, but the place was super clean, the staff seemed friendly, and it was easy to get out of the parking lot.
-the opening band didn't do much for me...they played well and didn't sound terrible, but i was there for tool.
-i was in section 115 row 9 and the view was impeccable. i could see all the screens as well as the band.
-like a couple people mentioned, the vocals were really hard to hear on some songs. i took out my earplugs just so i could hear them better and it was still difficult at times. i'm not sure if it was maynard who was singing louder and softer at points or if it was the sound engineer messing with it, but it seemed like during every song the loudness would change.
-i was really glad they played the pot, it was their best performance of the night imo, but i REALLY wanted to hear right in two or pushit rather than flood.
-normally i wouldn't complain about the crowd, but there were some lamers around me. first there were the two drunk girls who couldn't stfu for five minutes while they're playing wings. my wife, who lost her mother at a young age, was shedding some tears cause she was so moved by the song and at the same time other people are yapping about stupid shit at the top of their lungs not even paying attention to the music. luckily my wife didn't notice and was still able to have a really special moment. other than that everyone around me seemed respectful. sure, they were all smoking cigs & weed, and 90% of them barely moved a muscle during the show (some even sat) but that didn't bother me...well maybe the cigs a little.
-i thought overall tool performed well. the most well played songs imo were: the pot, wings/10k (although the vocals were difficult for me to hear at points), and flood (even though it's probably my least favorite song on the set list). once they got going on the lateralus drum solo thing it sounded good, but the first 30 seconds or so were slightly sketchy. i could've done without it though, cause when the song started back up it was a bit awkward and had lost it's flow.
-overall, i had a good time and defiantly got my moneys worth.

Sat in section 104 Row 3, amazing seats and view. I kind of knew what songs were coming after speaking with a friend before the show. Very impressed. I saw them about 8 months ago out by Rosemont and this show was better. I was hoping they would close with Aenema, but hearing Flood and seeing the drummers have their fun back and forth was worth every penny it cost me on Ebay :) Great show and hope to see them again soon.

Dear tards who spilled two beers over the railing, and then pretended to pee while spitting beer over the railing: You are about as worthless as used tampons. I hope you all get a splinter in your palm on the hand you use to jerk off with and it gets infected.
Dear Tool: Very good show as usual. Volume on the sides of the stage was ear SPLITTING. Really unnessesary. The show would have been loud enough without the stack of PA speakers pointed directly at my head and set on kill.
Also, although the show was good I kind of get the impression that they would be better if you didn't push yourselves so hard doing so many shows. Your not kids anymore, and I'm sure you have plenty of money, so how about holding it to 3 or 4 shows a week. Probably a better experience for you and us.
Hearing you play flood was one of my all time best concert experiences. The last 30 secs of that song were incredible beyond words.

My first Tool show and I was blown away! I met a couple guys sitting next to me who couldn't believe I have been listening to Tool for about 14 years and I have never seen them live. When I told them that I have been listening since Undertow I did the math in my head and I couldn't believe it either. After last night I am now kicking myself for not seeing them sooner. I will definately try to not miss any other shows that I have an opportunity to see.
Everyone else pretty much summed up the night in their reviews. I was section 101 row 4, great seat. I will agree with guys who said it was too loud, although I was sitting about as close as you could get to the PA's. My ears are still ringing 12 hours later. I don't mind though, it was worth it. I was very pleased with the set list. Oh, gottajibboo, if you are the same person from Phook, you should know that not all bands change up their setlist like Phish, that's mostly a Jam Band thing. From what I have read Tool has a base setlist and they only change about 2-3 songs from night to night.
First time at the Sears Centre too. It's a very nice place. Much better than Rosemont/AllState. Easy in, easy out, good sound, good size. The club section was a nice treat too although I only used it during the opener.

I leave the solitary confinement of my office to the sky exploding. It's about 4:57 and I have to get home, there's much to do this evening. The falling water slows my commute, but I get through it, and I pull into the driveway at 5:15. My brother is there, and my girlfriend's cousin, and we shoot shit and make jokes and sip some barley waters. My girlfriend arrives at 6:38, and we instantly hit the pavement in a Civic, North and West towards the next corporately sponsored sound box. The sky takes a Zanex and calms the fuck down.
The drive in is easy, simple, expedite. The walk into the Centre is even easier - while all the clones line up at the main entrance, our sly companion spots a quicker route through the ticket counter, and we're in like Flint...no line, no feverish piss dance. Instantly to the wrist band station, the frosty brew guy, the human waste terminal. A young kid asks me to buy him a beer, but when told the asking price of $6.50 he freaks out and storms off...his first lesson in inflation. Another 2, 3 trips to the waste terminal while Big Business makes noise, and then we find our seats. Section 114 Row 9 Seats 1 & 2. My brother and her cousin are recipients of a radio giveaway - their seats are much better than mine - and free. We watch the slowly forming mass of drunks, stoners, freaks, preps, frat kids, moms, dads, grandpas, and a midget, until suddenly...
THE LIGHTS GO OUT! The ring of feedback penetrates the smokey atmosphere and injects itself into longing ears. Four shadows creep onto the stage; One sits behind a golden mass of tubes and bells, shimmering in a red light. Another stands and straps on a four-stringed assault weapon. Another shadow keys a swaying electronic device with a six-stringed weapon around his shoulder. And one perches himself on a platform and poses infront of a swirling red ball of fire. "Here from the king's mountain view" he says, and I erupt.
The smell of burning plants permiates the air, while the conductor of this extravaganza preaches "nothing has to change" and "I've been crawlin on my belly". A suprise when he asks the crowd "who are you to wave your finger?", but my response is uncontrolable and I shoot my fists into the foggy air. While he brags about how he knows that the "pieces fit", I decide to take myself to the human waste terminal once more. I'm back in time to hear the ambient squealing and low bass tremelo, and realize that this is when he tells us about The Experience, the time when "he looked right through me, with somniferous almond eyes". As he finishes shamefully admitting "god damn, shit the bed", I see the stage fill with water and I realize that there is a Flood! He tells me to "take what is mine, all that is mine," and I jump in ecstacy and put on a wide grin. My whole body pounded with sound, I wonder to myself if there is heaven, and if this is it.
I can feel my heart begin to beg for escape from my chest, beating on my inner-ribcage in a mass production of blood. This is what I have been waiting for...this is it..."You....You Believed...You believed in movements none could see" I grab my girlfriend in soft embrace, I realize the porportion of the song and its meaning relative to my tiny existence, and water trickles from my eye and evaporates in the sweaty air.
Another shadow creeps onto the stage, and begins the epic journey of the evening, a transportal into the depths of the third eye, the mind, the body, and the spirit. Green lines dart into the air, and black, white, red, and yellow lights swarm the five shadows who convulge and sway and sing. A battle of titans takes place before my very eyes, a fight of sound that leaves me in awe, and the shadow behind the golden mass of tubes and bells comes out the victor, while the guest shadow waves good bye with pride and appreciation. The night ends with a frightening prediction and an observation of the present..."vicariously I live while the whole world dies," and I am at one with myself and everything around me. The four shadows wave and hug and give gifts to their dedicated constituents, and We make our way through the crowds and head to our humble homes.
I'm laying in my bed, pressing rewind and play and rewind and play, accessing my memory and smiling to myself as I revisit the magnificient experience. I realize that I am falling asleep when I see myself playing guitar next to Adam Jones while Maynard plays pinball in the back of a dirty warehouse. My life has just been changed, and although I have experienced this very event more than 5 times before, I understand that the gift TOOL gives us allows sound and soul to intersect and tangle in the depths of our hearts, and puts pieces of our mind to the forefront, where they can be enjoyed in a common appreciation of talent and ingenuity.

" Looks like we are all here let's go" that was one of the best opening lines to a Tool show I've ever heard it was great. The setlist was so freaking amazing we got the Pot and FLOOD this show and the crowd was SOOOOOO Much better than the Peoria crowd even though that was still a good set I just hated the crowd. My friends and I had floor and we were right up towards the middle so we saw Danny and Justin like dead on. Maynard wasn't mad at all he was very cheerful and was walking around during the jam in Lateralus and was feeding everyone gummy worms I got a kick out of that. I'd have to say that jam was better than the Peoria one because I was able to see it a bit better since I was on the floor. This was my 8th time seeing them since 2001 and I'd have to say it brings me back to the first time I saw them up in Seattle with King Crimson at the Paramount Theater. Rosetta Stoned was so dead on the hair on the back of my neck was standing up and I had chills go down my spine. I love the laser show they have it's the best laser show I've ever seen in my life. Well I hope we get Pushit up in Milwaukee next week and it would be cool to see Aenema be thrown back in there but I'm not going to be picky.

What up k1johnny! Forgot to PM you before the show for a meet up.
As everyone said: Amazing show! Compared to the two previous Chicago shows this tour this one was absolutely the best. I can't even pick out a single highlight because every song was played so well with so much enthusiasm.
CROWD:
With the exception of two people in front of me the crowd was absolutely amazing. I think Chicago crowds are probably some of the best. Everyone was pretty enthusiastic and respectful. Most people around me just lit up some fatties and chilled which was nice. Of course there were two aforementioned exceptions. This middle-aged couple in front of me in 114 row 12 really tried my patience. From the moment they got there to the time they left they went from fighting to name-calling to laughing to making out to fighting again then making out again, etc. They were so drunk they kept stumbling and falling. At one point the guy was sitting on top of his seat and almost fell into me. I was hoping that he would because me and my friends were going to drag him out into the aisle. He did sit down at one point so I got a couple of cheap knee shots to his head as reperations for my pain and suffering at his hand. The worst part is that they drove to the show so some innocent motorist is going to be at risk because of these imbeciles. Hopefully, they crash into a wall instead, that way they won't kill anyone but themselves.
BIG BUSINESS:
Considering that the last openers I saw were Isis and Melt Banana, Big Business was a welcome change. They at least had a rhythym and their drummer was very talented. They seem kind of like a really unfocused Metallica. All and all not that bad.
TOOL:
Wow. "I don't even know where to begin..."
Jambi:
Good opener again. Only problem is a lot of people don't seem to know it as well. Stinkfist maybe the best opener.
Stinkfist:
We got the short album version so I knew we would be getting either The Pot or Flood. This song will never get old. I love the "Stinkfist-stomp" that Maynard does during this song. He did do the blood curdling scream which REALLY got the crowd going.
Forty-Six & 2:
Much better rendition than Peoria. Started with the keyboard intro that Adam does. Still an excellent song but I'm hoping as the tour goes on that it gets rotated with H. or 4 Degrees as in the previous tour.
The Pot:
When I saw Maynard stand by his mic after Forty-Six & 2 I knew that The Pot was next. It saddened me a little because typically when they play this song they will not play Pushit or Flood. Nonetheless, Justin's bassline shattered a few of my teeth and Maynard was spot-fucking-on.
Schism:
The doubletime keeps this song alive but I would give my left testicle to have it swapped out for Parabola. I noticed that the chorus during this song is a little different, a little deeper than before.
Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned:
This mammoth has grown on me. Maynard nailed every scream and did his robot-dance which kicked ass and then he began clapping and the crowd followed suit, very nice. I still think this should be the opener.
Vicarious Jam:
This is actually a pretty cool analog synth sounding jam that reminds me of something from Pink Floyd. It has a "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" feel to it. I was expecting Right In Two but heard a very subtle bass line...the hair on my neck stood up...I yelled out "holyfuckingshit! Flood!" Sure enough...
Flood:
Oh my God! Not only was I not expecting it, I wasn't expecting it to be so damn good. I have the audio from Bonarroo and it didn't sound this good! That slow rumbling bass line cut right through me. Oh man, if anyone thought Maynard's voice was in jeopardy they haven't heard Flood this year. It sounded BETTER than in 2002 and that is saying a lot. Flood made my night, they could have ended the show there and I would have been 100% satisfied.
Wings 1+ 2:
Wow, wow, wow. Third time seeing it in person and it is just a moving, religious experience. I stood in awe just watching the visuals and I think I shed a tear during the "give me my wings!" part just as the 10,000 Days backdrop unfurled. That was the apex of emotions for me, wow, oh man...
Lateralus:
Very heavy. This song is up there with Third Eye for me. It is more epic every time and I have to say that the Big Business drummer's duel with Danny was excellent. That drummer is very talented. I also enjoyed Maynard feeding everyone (candy?, Cheetos?).
Vicarious:
Nice visuals but I can't really get into this song. This is where I hopped the barrier to get onto the floor and meet the serial killer for the setlist. Thanks again, good to actually meet you in person this time, don't worry I won't tell where the bodies are buried ;-)
BEST DAMN SHOW I'VE EVER BEEN TO. Thank you Tool and thank you HOFFMAN ESTATES.

Awesome show, Maynard finally wasn't sick for a show in chicago. Then he said that he liked the crowd near the end too, but maybe that was just in comparison to the Peoria show.
here is a link to a setlist from the stage if anyone wants to see it.

Have to respectfully disagree, no offense intended . . but this show is a set piece with a beginning, middle and end, with video tied to the emotional impact of the songs. Yeah, some of it can be substituted, but this is hardly a "hey, let's pull out "Bottom" for the kids" kind of performance. People intent on seeing multiple shows have to understand that; they're not going to change the script of a play just because some audience members may have seen it already.
And a mechanic that specializes in classic cars would be considered an artist in my book . . .
Of course, that said, it still would've been nice to hear "Right in Two"

WOW!!!! FLOOD!!!!! What a show!! 17th show for me and Tool still seems to impress me. That show just might have been the best show I have ever seen. We had floor and the sound was incredible. Everything was perfect. I saw them in St Louis last weekend and this show blew it away. Flood was a huge surprise cause I dont read set lists. I love the backround for flood with all the rain coming down. I'm not sure if it was just me but I dont think they missed a beat the whole show. We missed the begining of jambi because we were smoking before the show and lost track of time. The limo ride was awesome! You know it's not everyday that Tool plays in the town that you grew up in, so we went all out. Wow I'm still amazed of the sound. Rosetta is my favorite song to hear live off the new album. I thought The intro to flood was a teaser because in St Louis they just played the intro to prison sex, but when the rest of the song kicked in I almost lost it. Flood sounded so perfect almost like they were playing it every night. Justin is the best bass player in the world. His bass lines in flood were perfect. I wish every show was like last night. Of course the lazers were cool for wings. I love when it kicks hard at the end of 10,000 days. Lateralus is tool's best song. I love the new version of the song. It was so powerful. Well one more show this year in Milwaukee for the 4th of July and I couldn't be more excited. I want to thank Tool for a show to remember. Thank you Phil, Joe, and Lisa for experiencing with me one of the best shows in my life. Thanks for the tickets Mrs Whittman! Thanks for the limo ride Tony. Thank you everyone for not using flash photos. This really means alot to the band as you heard, in Texas this year Maynard got really pissed at someone. So thanks again!! O thanks Joe for not puking in the limo. Till the next show ride the spiral...

Well I could barely sleep because last night’s show was a mind expanding experience! It was my 5th time seeing Tool here in Chicago, 1st time for my buddy I went with (not a Tool fan), and our first time going to Sears Centre. I wanted to get there when the doors opened at 6:30, but my buddy was running late, so we didn’t get there until after 7pm... Then there was a lot of police/security outside, so we parked in an office building parking lot conveniently across the street so I could smoke my doob. The parking situation was pretty ridiculous. Security guys on the roof were freaking me out! Once we finally got in, we agreed that Sears Centre sucks. We got down to the floor, where security (half-assed) didn’t even check my friend’s ticket. I bet a lot of people got through who shouldn’t have. We chatted with some Phish-type guys who brought the one and only BEACHBALL. Tool went on about 9:15ish. The set list was a nice surprise. Lateralus was worth my $72 ticket alone! My buddy's favorite was Rosetta Stoned. The quality of the concert itself was spectacular. The crowd was more rowdy than I was expecting (ie moshing). Just my luck, a mosh pit formed right by me. In general, there were a lot of douche bags. Oh, and who sings for Tool? Maynard does. Let’s keep it that way you a-holes.
My final thoughts:
Pros:
First time seeing Tool while completely high
LOUDEST CONCERT EVER
Adam played the talkbox perfectly
Dual drumming on Lateralus
Lasers
Guy with crutches body surfing
Cons:
Mad police and security outside
Lack of security inside on the floor
Bathrooms were too small
People singing louder than Maynard
$38 for a T-shirt
Sears Centre blows
My ears are still ringing
On the way out, I counted 6 tour buses and 8 semi trucks. The police wouldn’t let us hang around to see the band afterward. Did anyone get to go backstage, or see the band on their way out? I’d really like to meet TOOL someday...

Big Business was TERRIBLE. I was itching for it to be over. I just couldnt take it after their second song.
Now to the show. One of the best shows I think I've ever seen and Ive seen a big number of shows. The performance was incredible, the sound resonating, and the drugs fucking everyone up in every way possible. The light show was great but didn't get too interesting until near the end with the grid-like thing that they had going. This is my second time at Sears Center since I live so close to it but this venue is truly horrific.
Only real complaints include that one error doing Lateralus (although if I remember correctly, my bud said that the band seemed to just drop that on him on purpose by their facial expressions), the guy that pissed on me and my bud's leg while trying to piss in a cup right before Tool went on and then didn't want to get rid of his damn cup of piss. Getting drenched in God knows what. Despite the fact the pit was hardly full to capacity, the front end always feels the need to ruin the show by pushing all the way forward, so people end up having to move back because of it. lets see, people so high you could tell they were freaking out from the projecters. The first 5 minutes of the show when they still enforced the no smoking rule.
Also got to see one of my old best friends who I hadnt seen in years working there which was at first unpleasant but then pleasant surprise.
Overall, this show was everything I expected and nothing about it was dissapointing whatsoever.

Hahaha that's great, the diversity of people at a Tool show never ceases to amaze me. Great write up, and you can add young kids to that list, as I saw a couple that brought their young daughter along which I thought was great. Hope my oldest daughter will come with me on the next tour. I may have actually brought the youngest Tool fan to the show last night, as I brought my pregnant wife. Can't imagine what the baby thought of all that last night!!!
After a bit of reflection (and some much needed sleep) I was gonna post a more detailed follow up review but I feel I would just be echoing Maz's post. Not only was Maynard into the show, he killed it vocally all night (The Pot and Flood especially... and the Stinkfist scream sent chills down my spine). After the show my wife told me that at times she would become mesmerized watching the drummer which I thought was great.
Funny that most of my friends think Tool is so dark and kinda disturbing, yet I just couldn't manage to wipe the huge ass smile off my face after every song last night. One thing is for certain though, everyone should experience a Tool show at least once their life.
Til next week...

Not much to add here, this was my first Tool show. I knew it was going to be a visual feast going into it... but i under-estimated the coolness of the lasers. From my seat (Sec. 218, second floor to the immidiate right of the stage) During 10k days, when maynard got to the final "Give me my Wings!!" the lasers fanned out and flapped, i thought that was pretty cool =D. And I didnt know the extent to the visual effects happening on the stage itself. For example during Flood (which i thought was a REAL treat to hear something from undertow that ISNT Sober) every time they struck that power chord in unison, water rushed across the stage from Danny to the crowd... Wow, way cool!
The scream during Stinkfist "Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!!!" (well at least... thats what i always think hes saying :-/ whatever) just about made me cream in my pants. It's amazing how well Maynard can belt it out like that.
The talkbox solo on Jambi, very cool visually from where i was, BIG RING of Fire around Adam.
The fast tempo portion of Schism, Awesome. Also i think for a few verses there Maynard was using some "devil" vocal effect.
FLOOD!! Man!!! THEY PLAYED FLOOD!!
The dueling drummers for Lateralus was probably the biggest highlight i think. How long did that go on? Seemed like about 13-15 minutes... the whole song that is. It felt like the drum solo was maybe 5-6 minutes-ish. At any rate, AWESOME! And Maynard even came down from his perch to give something to Justin, then walked over to Danny and Brody(i think that was his name) and just kinda stood there nodding his head with this look his face like "Hmm, not too bad. Okay you? Ah, pretty good. Hmmm, very interesting."
Not much banter from Maynard. They pretty much just took the stage "Hi everyone, lets get started" then just before Vicarious he thanked everyone for not using their cameras and that it was time for them to get back to their porn. He starting saying how it "still takes, finding that vunerable, quiet spot"... when he said that i almosted expected them to do Third Eye... kinda got my hopes up a little high for that one. I personally thought Maynard was a little tame last night... other than the Limbo/Cowboy stance during Jambi, he pretty much just swayed from side to side, stomped his feet and shook his fist. No major evil monkeys were being exorcised.
The sound was Great! Although at times Maynard was hard to hear where i was at.
Well thats pretty much all i gotta say; fragmented thoughts, i know. Sorry, thats how i role. Fantastic Show! Cant wait for the next.

My day started pretty stupid. My little brother, who I had been planning on taking to this show for a week, forgot to ask my folks if he could go with me. He had to work the next morning (today) at 6 and since he didn't ask, they said he couldn't go. So, after searching for a replacement for hours, and having no luck, I made the epic journey by myself. I saw someone complain about the drive from Chicago. HAHAHA!!! I drove from southwest Wisconsin, 3 hours give or take each way. Now that's a drive, especially the drive home, fuckin A.
Anyway, when I got to the Sears Centre, I met a couple of cool guys who were also from Wisconsin. They had an extra floor ticket since one of their buddies got stuck in the Charlotte airport. They offered to trade me that extra for my extra seat in section 108 or something like that. I quickly accepted. Having a choice of locations couldn't hurt. We drank beers in the parking lot for about an hour, then made our way in.
Fuckin security found my joints on the way in. I lost my buds in line, but found them on the floor, soon after discovering my seats were junk compared to the floor.
As soon as Jambi started some fuckface slammed into me, spilling his beer all over me and also crushing my cup of beer in the process. This, however, was the only lame event around me all night, except for a couple douchebags talkin during Wings.
Sound was PERFECT where I was at. Maynard's vocals were crisp, in spite of the ear splitting volume on the floor. I didn't realize how fuckin loud it was until I left the arena. My ears are actually still ringing, some 15 or so hours later. But the mix was great where I was, and I don't mind the lack of hearing now, cuz what I heard last night was utter bliss.
"Well, looks like everyone's here.......so... Let's get started." Maynard was very animated all show, dancing around, you could tell he was really into it. He was also VERY appreciative to the crowd near the end of the show when he said, "Thank you VERY VERY VERY VERY, etc. much for not using flash photography tonight." I don't know how many Very's he said, but it was a lot. I was very proud of the crowd at that point. If the crowd was good enough for Maynard, it was good enough for me. Despite being on the floor, I didn't get caught up in a moshpit all night. I honestly didn't even know if there was moshing, I sort of assumed there was some, but I couldn't see any all night amazingly enough.
I was PUMPED we got The Pot. The setlist was identical to the show I saw in Cedar Rapids except for this addition. I am not even slightly disappointed. Everyone has a wishlist for songs they want to hear. If I would get to hear Aenima, I swear I would mess my pants on the spot, but if it doesn't happen, I don't give a shit. Whatever they play will kick the shit out of any other music out there right now.
I'd say this show was as good as the Cedar Rapids show I saw, and that show was incredible. Personally, my experiences were much the same at both shows, minus getting high last night. Great crowd by me both shows. Great sound mix and vocals both shows. Great energy from the band both shows. Incredible drum battle during Lateralus both shows.
Regardless, This Show KICKED ASS!!! I had a great time, and can't wait to do it again one last time on this tour in Milwaukee. Summerfest, here I come!!

My ears are literally still ringing as I type this.

it was really loud. i think i might've suffered from a temporary hearing loss.
for some reason, maynard's voice kept getting drowned out during jambi and stinkfist. was is just me?
but anyways, awesome awesome show. this was my 2nd time seeing Tool. I saw them a couple of months ago at Allstate when maynard was sick. I liked the show at the sears center. the lights, the lazer, the smoke/fog i thought were a lot better than last time. plus, there werent any crazy building personnel tackling people left and right.
I was kinda glad Flood was played but i was also looking forward to Right In Two. I didnt wanna hear The Pot again..instead, I was hoping to hear Aenima and Prison Sex - i know they havent played that in ages but the hoffman estates crowd were well behaved than the peoria crowd. we deserved an incentive.
overall, phenomenal show. i didnt even mind the drunken stoners who kept spilling beer (maybe even piss) all over me.
did anyone take pics?

1st Tool show.
Was extremely impressed.
Cannot believe so much great sound can come from just 4 people.
Every song was my favorite...I was sad when it was over.
From my vantage point (sec 118) I could see some moshing, but nothing
looked out of hand. Sound was great--laser / light show was great....
Danny was great.
I wish they were doing it again tonight.

I totally agree. I felt the same way in Cedar Rapids. I had a great feeling of pride for being in such incredible audiences for these shows. At the end of both, I felt like we deserved a little something extra. Here I go wishing again... But if the audience is totally into it and not doing stupid shit like throwing stuff or taking flash photos, I wish that Tool could be a little more flexible and throw in something different at the end. Aenima would be fuckin sick, or Prison Sex, or anything different for that matter. I know their shows are very demanding, and to set up lasers, lights, videos, etc. for a new song would be a monumental chore. Hey, wishlists are like assholes, everyone has one.
