A Meditative Guide?
After listening to Lateralis, and then coming in contact with psychedelics for the first time, thus leading into Buddhism, ego-loss, etc., I feel I can offer a pretty good interpretation of the entire album.
Tool, admittedly, have taken psychedelics, have experienced them, and subtly promote their use. The psychedelic view is one of the mystic. It's really easy to loss your ego, and to become one in the All. This is all tied in with the lyrics (esp. Parabol/Parabola and Reflection) and the artwork (Alex Grey is a major psychedelic promoter, and his artwork reflects the Buddhist-like reality that he sees. Tool also were major fans of Bill Hicks, who again, was a big supporter of psychedelics.
I could go through, song by song, and explain them in relation to this spiritual evolution, but that's a lot of typing. However, one of the things I find about the album overall is it is a good meditative and guidance tool... The songs played in the order they are laid out lead to meditation and the correct state of mind for all of this.
Tool is truly a modern psychedelic band. There music, for me, gives me a high all on its own.

Re: A Meditative Guide?
Well thanks a lot for stating the absolute obviousness of Tool's album. Anything else you'd like to bring to light for us? Perhaps the fact that Maynard wrote some songs on 10,000 days because of his mother?
