You know, Courtney called him a media whore.
IMAGE DELETED, AS WE ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO POST THEM.
That creature could also be the explantation of the alien singing in the beginning.

What if Maynard's singing to himself? He wore a wig with APC... kept making that stupid "Republicans suck, vote Democrat" speech at every show in '04. Sounded like his head was up his ass to me.

HAIR - sounds clearly (IMO)
as a non native english speaker :) i look at this just like on saying
(to be out of head = crazy, freak, mindless etc.)
out of your hair could mean just the same ... maybe pointing on Maynard`s head :)
after all if he or somebody else is eyehole deep in Muddy Waters,
he must have been totaly high
the one who thought of Courtney must have been somewhere else too - LOL
:D Regards

I think maynard just uses this say to describe hypocrites, which it what the song is about...and when Whorebag Love made that statement shes was being quite the hypocrite...her whole live is a pathetic cry for attention and she gets it through the media...
But yeah, this song is simply about hypocrites.
and Nirvana can lick my balls...they suck ass and ruined music for ever. Just look at all the shitty bands today(every band, with few exceptions) they all are terrible and they were all influanced by shitty Nirvana...

are you insane? Nirvana is in the top 2 of all bands ever, and i think they are #1. (my opinion) just look at what they did in the early '90s when we had vanilla ice, madonna, and michael jackson ruling the charts. when nevermind came out, it opened up a whole new world. after that we got alice in chains, stone temple pilots, soundgarden, later smashing pumpkings (i don't mention pearl jam 'cuz they suck) kurt cobain and nirvana saved this generation of music. i can't stand courtney love either, (her own father even thinks she hired someone to kill kurt) yeah there is a lot of shitty music out there now, but it's not nirvana's fault. alot of bands might be influenced by them, but none will ever reach their level, which by the way is unreachable. I dont think they ever came close to reaching the level of the beatles. On top of that, I'm kinda sure that Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, and Sound Garden were making the music they made at the same time Nirvana made the music they made. (Nirvana didnt have a huge effect on them). In my opinion Nirvana did little more then put a face on a genre. To call them #1 is an insult to alot of people.

First of all, learn how to spell Metallica. No I didn't forget tool (my second favorite band) or zepplin, the doors, pink floyd. But come on. The Beatles!!! No good excuse for music. Lennon had it coming.

Tool did say this was a personal album to them...and from Maynards quote, My closest bet would be that this song is about Courtney Love until proven otherwise.

I was agreeing with you until the beatles and Lennon comment.
You lose.
GTFO.
Same goes for the Nirvana haters. Not number 1 (or 2, or 3), but definately great music.

no offense redmetalfox, but did you learn how to spell Metallica yet? i thought this forum was to talk about tool. maybe he might be singing about that stupid slut (courtney love) if he is, more power to him. that bitch can rot in hell for all i care. but you didn't need to bring Nirvana into the case. so what if she was married to kurt, that's his own fault. let's stop these 6th grade games and focus on tool. OK?

Sounds good, and the comments I made last night were during a black out, and I don't mean the power going out. So don't get on my as for making some obvious drunken typo's.

If Cobain did'nt kill himself, and was still making albums, no one on this planet would be calling him a genius right now, let alone someone " who changed music"
I liked em' but they were not as good as people make em' out to be

Arguably right. And Perry Ferrell as much as anybody helped showcase so many of these bands by virtue of Lollapallooza. Unfortunately, he pulled the plug on Jane's Addition almost as quickly as they had gained public notice. That's why they're seldom credited because they were no longer around in that same form by the time everything exploded.
"Nirvana sucks" and similar thoughts are tired notions. If people respect Tool and Maynard as much as they claim, then at least consider the recognition they/he has been willing to offer bands like Nirvana, Sound Garden, Alice in Chains, and even Pearl Jam. If you don't personally enjoy their music, that's absolutely up to you. But most people who've been involved in rock music for the past 20 years or more acknowledge all these bands as providing listeners with something more worthy than what was being pushed onto the public at the time. And Nirvana did indeed take the lead in shedding light onto a scene that up to that point was still unknown to everyone outside Washington and Oregon.
Most of these bands weren't being heard by the general public. Not even bands like Jane's Addiction and Soundgarden who both had major label contracts before Nirvana did. But Nirvana became the gateway. They helped people break free from the glam-rock big-hair bombastic bullshit that was still in heavy rotation at the time but clearly had run it's course. Bands like Trixter, Jackyl, Winger, etc, who didn't really matter but still got paychecks because record execs assumed it was good enough for rock fans. Meanwhile the public didn't have much choice in the matter because that's all they were being given to listen to. That and Vanilla Ice. Take your pick.
The Seattle bands and Nirvana in particular were relevant because for the first time in a long time, the music wasn't about the girl you fucked last night or the girl you were going to fuck tonight or how much you drank and vomitted before fucking someone the other night. It wasn't a bunch of sexual inuendos spaced around a guitar solo and a 4/4 beat. It wasn't spandex and hairspray. The words had meaning, they had a message, and seldom times was it a good message but it was more in tune with the way the youth of America was really feeling than "Talk Dirty to Me" or "Cherry Pie" could ever be. The music itself was free from most of the heavy production other acts of the time were accustomed to. It felt and sounded real. It was actually a great time to be listening to rock. One of the best times in fact. I wish it would happen again.
