Here's some interesting numbers from the store I work at (Hastings).
May 2nd, Tool sold 153
May 2nd, Pearl Jam sold 28
May 9th, Red Hot Chili Peppers sold 21
May 9th, Tool sold 5
May 9th, Pearl Jam sold 2
(I'm a dipshit and forgot to check Jagged Edge, but we didn't get very many Jagged Edge cds in, and didn't sell very many either).
All total, for May 2nd through May 9th, Tool sold 259 at my store. I also know that the particular store I work at was either first in the region, or first chain-wide for total Tool sales.

The only way to know that is by reading Tool's contract with the record company. There is no standard cut or percentage for the different involves parties, so it's impossible to know without seeing the contract.

No, its actually really simple if you think about it. It took 60 seconds to get an answer and probably would have taken longer having to go though all the nonsense people post.

overall, considering the hype and all, i expected over 600.000 in first week. this one wont beat lateralus in overall sales i belive, but will finish close to 2 million. but then still, the pot could really destroy the radio when it comes out, so i dont know. the pot could change this record's sales a lot if it does some major work on radio. we'll see.

i think this will be the best selling tool record to date
the pot and right in two can catapult tool into a whole
other arena..it is off to a great start i think. with safe
marketting stratergy it can easily outsell the rest. i dont
know if they plan to do the money thing but the album
does have potential on its own.
and bline me..no video yet

Geez.
Wait until he video is released and then you will see some serious units moved.
But really. who gives a fuck what and if they sell. We all like it . I do anyways. That's all that matters to me.
I don't give a a fuck if they are #1 #2 #3 or fucking #50. it's Tool.

If the album is unsuccessful (they debuted at #1, so we don't have to worry about that any more), Tool won't put out any more CDs.

Unfortunately, platinum may be a ways off, but it probably will be by time the US arena tour rolls around. You've got to think it will be 100k max this week with 553k being the total for the strongest week with the big 1st day sales.

hopefully the combination of the vicarious video, the arena tour, and the pot single will be enough to keep 10,000 days on the charts, maybe outselling lateralus. if it does manage to outsell lateralus, i'd say another album is much more likely.

Another album is more than likely already. There are absolutely no signs of them breaking up, in fact Danny said in a finnish metal mag interview that they are doing better than ever together and definitely will continue.

Well if that turns out to be billboards numbers it beat out lateralus by 9,000 copies.
I was always thinking how everybody who bought lateralus first week would buy 10,000 days first week. Then it accured to be some of them probably died.

Didn't Lateralus sell 550,000 its first week?
I thought this would sell more.

I counted about 150k downloads of the album from one torrent site alone, so who the hell really knows, a lot of those are foreign, a lot may have bought it in the first place. Conservative estimate would probably be 50k lost sales?
