Yeah it is quite nice, Lateralus debuted at #16 so theres progress. And RHCP album is a double, so I'd say Tool is the moral winner here...

TOOL IS #1 IN CANADA.

ALBUM GOES GOLD IN FIRST WEEK!

.....

Good stuff! and congrats to PJ to for a good opening week, as the album really is better than anything I've heard from them in a while.

The odd thing is the near perfect 1:10 ration of Canadian vs. US album sales. Usually it isnt that even (or population is about 1/10 of the US, so we base it on that) but it looks like Tool's fanbase in Canada is on par with our American neigbours (by scale).

here's the story from canoe.ca

___________

Tool, Pearl Jam battle for No. 1

By JOHN WILLIAMS
Senior Editor, JAM! Showbiz

It's Tool time on the Canadian album charts this week.
The long-awaited release from experimental hard rockers Tool threw a wrench into Pearl Jam's bid for the top spot on the Canadian album charts.

Tool's "10,000 Days," the band's fourth studio album, checked in at No. 1 this week with hefty sales of 56,000, according to data compiled by Nielsen SoundScan.

The album figures make "10,000 Days" the top debut of '06.

It also marks their second straight No. 1 album here -- their last disc, "Lateralus," hit the top of the heap back in May of 2001, selling just under 51,000 copies.

Tool also grabbed the No. 1 spot south of the border, selling a whopping 564,000 copies of "10,000 Days" in the U.S, according to Billboard.com.

Back in Canada, Pearl Jam's new self-titled effort, which many critics are calling their best album in years, came in at No. 2 with healthy sales of 37,000. It matches their best ever SoundScan debut. Their last studio effort, 2002's "Riot Act," came in at No. 4 with 20,000 copies sold.

Just saw on MTV, 10,000 Days sold well over 560,000 in the first week, putting them in the top spot in the US. Or at least I'm pretty sure that's what they said, I'm a bit distracted by Oblivion.

10, 000 days reached number 1 on Official Retail Sales Chart in Poland.

It is also number 1 in Empik music chain store in Poland.

Very glad to hear that news, especially that it came as a surprise to me.

not yet. I'll try to find out though I would not expect big numbers.

Albums do not sell in big numbers in Poland in general. For example only 25 000 copies of Lateralus was sold in Poland.

But maybe this tme things will be better.

Tool has large amount of fans here in Poland, that's for sure. Everytime (i've witnessed this twice) new album is released, at the premiere day, polish tool fans are literally crowding in (poor) music stores. It some kind of psychodelic experience :)

#2 or #3.

I think they will do 170,000 copies next week. Nick Lachey 150,000 copies estimated will be at #3. So Tool will be #2.

Tool unlocks Euro chart No. 1

Tool's ''10,000 Days'' (Volcano/Zomba) repeats its achievement on The Billboard 200 by debuting on the Europe-wide chart at No. 1, followed by Pearl Jam's eponymous J set at No. 2 and Bruce Springsteen's ''We Shall Overcome - The Seeger Sessions'' (Columbia), which falls from 1 to 3.

The Tool album opens at No. 1 in Holland, Austria and Norway, No. 2 in Germany, Finland and Denmark, No. 3 in Switzerland, No. 4 in Italy and the United Kingdom (with sales of 29,000 units) and No. 6 in Portugal. ''10,000 Days'' climbs from 2 to 1 in the Belgian region of Flanders. Pearl Jam, meanwhile, is new at No. 1 in Italy and Portugal, No. 2 in Germany, Switzerland and Holland, No. 3 in Austria, No. 4 in Norway and Ireland, No. 5 in the United Kingdom (selling 26,000 units), and climbs from 8 to 2 in Flanders.

Finnish Net-Anttila (the online service of the probably largest Finnish department store-chain) has a "temporarily out of stock" mark on 10,000 Days on their site. It had climbed to 4th most sold CD before that. Guess some one wasn't prepared for this... :)

And an other department-store didn't even have it the day it was released, when i went there to purchase the new PJ album.

Great "scouting" as always in the case of the department store music sections... :)

thanks, I could not find it somehow. Pearl Jam and RHCP are on the 5th and 6th place respectively.

by the way, do you know exact numbers? (number of copies sold)
