Re: Best Song

"SWEAT", with "Hush" and "Part of Me" being not too far behind. "Opiate" is probably my least favorite on the album. No, "jerk-off" is.

Re: Best Song

Favourite to Least

1. Jerk-off: I fucking love this song. The vocals are awesome, and the intro riff is just fun to play when you're mucking around in drop-d with flange in the git.

2. Hush: I love how Maynard starts a song bagging out censorship by screaming the words: FUCK YOU!, ah, I love it.

3. Opiate: Just an all round great song. I especially like the dig at those religious fanatics who can't/won't see anyone else's point of view: "Blind me with your lies"

4. Part of Me: I have a soft spot for this song because it won us the Battle of the Bands at my school. And it is so much fun to belt out.

5. The Gaping Lotus Experience: Two words: Fucking Hilarious.

6. Cold and Ugly: I'm such a big fan of this one, but it is still pretty damn good.

7. Sweat: This is my least favourite. Not because their is anything wrong with it, just because the others are just so much better.

Man, I so can't wait to finish work and listen to Opiate now.

Re: Best Song

Jerk off, lyrically, and musically superior for me. i actually like this album better than undertow!!!! though it may be because i got it more recently so i'm still discovering the music more on Opiate rather than Undertow.

The only ones I really listen to (I don't own the album yet) are Part of Me and Opiate which are both f*cking awesome songs.

Re: Best Song

I will admit that there are more meaning to songs such as Jerk-Off and Opiate.

With that being said, no other song off of "Opiate" can match the epicness that is Cold and Ugly. When Tool performs it live its even better because that segue in the middle (right before Paul goes nuts on the bass) is played at half the speed from the album version resulting in an epic head banging momentum builder. It's just such an awesome rocker and I actually think its one of Tools catchiest songs. Sure the lyrics aren't as provocative as in Jerk-Off or it doesn't have subliminal messages like in Opiate but its still the best bang your head to song on the album (aside from Hush, but Cold and Ugly still carries more momentum IMO)

a very underrated song too. I'm surprised this wasn't a common favorite on this board, I think it's the perfect song to play if you're in a new band and you're trying to get a crowd on their feet.
