Revelation...Rosetta Stoned = Third Eye.
Someone mentioned this already on this forum, and I have posted this elsewhere, but there is more to it than just a few riffs.
Listen to the sound at 2:54, it's the same scratch sound Tool used before, if not on Third Eye. I'll have to go through the rest of AEnima or Lateralus to find it again.
Listen at 4:11, that guitar riff is basically pulled straight from 2:33 on Third Eye, though the guitar isn't as prevalent....
6:01-6:51, more well done remixes of the Third Eye riffs at 9:40 and 9:07 is another part of the remixed riff from Third Eye completey ripped and thrown in here.
Now, I'm off to find more parallels with the rest of the songs on the album and the past albums.
Basically, this song, and much of the album is entirely remixed from past work and this is blatant proof. I challenge the rest of you to find more instances where there is guitar work, bass work, or drum work, blatantly pulled from past albums and cite your proof.

the inclusion of old riffs into the new material is intentional. and yes, I agree that this song resembles third eye. but it is new and any similarities you find were planted by the band for that very purpose.

in rosetta stoned, there is a part that sounds straight from h, the "without the skin here/beneath the storm" part.
edit: 6:02 to about 6:30 on rosetta stoned

bluefire is right, the 6:01-6:51 part is not from Third Eye, but from H. Starts at 3:28 on H. Good find man.

What parts of Triad? I currently have my AEnima cd popped in, and if you could tell me exactly where to look on Triad, I could look into it easier.

if you compare the slow screeching guitar solos on 1:45 on triad to about 7:19 rosetta stoned, they aren't identical, but pretty fucking close.
edit: on triad, its the left channel, not the eagle sounding noise on the right channel

eon blue apocalypse: SAME notes used as the intro for intension, and the outro
mantra-lipan conjuring (thats two chanting songs that tool has made)
rosetta stoned-faiip de oiad could it be the same character? they sound the same... closely. dunno. same theme.
hooker with a peepee-same position thematically as the pot; similar lyrics
wings-already used during the live shows as inbetween song riffs
stinkfist-vicarious self explanatory
those are the ones ive seen so far. anyone else?

The solo at around 7:50 sounds incredibly remeniscent of the Grudge solo. Actually, it sounds exactly like it. It seems like all they did was take the studio version of that solo and raise the pitch. The solo on this track does sound as if it's been fucked with quite a bit in the studio. Thoughts?

Don't be ridiculous. The H. similarity, for instance, is ABSOLUTELY undeniable. How can you possibly not see that? Go to about 6:03 on Rosetta Stoned. Listen for a bit. Then go listen to H. around 3:30 or so. Come back and tell us what you hear.

Lets see, the sub-title for Lost Keys is "Blame Hofmann," and we all know that LK is the intro to RS... plus, Albert Hofmann is the inventor of LSD, and LSD causes flashbacks for many people (including myself, while listening to Ænima), so their inclusion of old riffs makes perfect sense.
They are simply telling us to "blame hofmann" (albert) for making LSD, and making them have flashbacks to old songs =P
To further explain my point, here's a quote from Nate-Dogg-21:
Quote:

What is taking place here, is the patient (maynard) is freaking out and having a bad experience, and the doctors are trying to figure out whats going on.
From there this proceeds into rosetta stoned.... which is obviusly about someone who has an amazing experience on drugs(my interpretation) and they are in a realm between alive and dead. While on this drug experience, they are told they are "the chosen one."
This song is just a segue for rosetta stoned, its just used as a set up. Its like, you have the external view of the person tripping, and then whats going on inside their own little world. Pretty rad if you ask me... This is what i get from the song.
There's a book by Tom Wolfe called the Electric Kool-aid acid test which describes the era of when LSD was legal and first synthesized, id reccomend you read it. It explains LSD and why its illegal...

Re: Decoding Rosetta Stoned
Lets see, the sub-title for Lost Keys is "Blame Hofmann," and we all know that LK is the intro to RS... plus, Albert Hofmann is the inventor of LSD, and LSD causes flashbacks for many people (including myself, while listening to Ænima), so their inclusion of old riffs makes perfect sense.
They are simply telling us to "blame hofmann" (albert) for making LSD, and making them have flashbacks to old songs =P
To further explain my point, here's a quote from Nate-Dogg-21:

Excuse me? You obviously didn't see the blatant joke in the second statement.
