Re: 2006/11/22 - Dublin, IRL - The Point

'holy fuckin shit!', have to say it was the best gig i've ever been too! tool are my favourite band and mastodon are close runners-up, to bad mastodon only got to use half the PA. 2 fantastic prog-orientated bands to see in one night. tool sounded and played alot better than when i saw the at pinkpop in holland, and there stage ABSOLUTLEY blew my mind this time round.....(i think the acid might of helped too....) and wings/10,000 days was possibly the most meaningful song i've ever seen live, i mean close to tears kinda meaningful. did anyone hear maynard wgisper into the mic before the song "today is judiths birthday"? that just added to the emotion behind it. i really liked mastodons setlist, ya gotta love blood mounatin like.

cant wait til they come back!!!!
PEACE OUT

He didn't say "today" is Judiths birthday, he said "this week is Judiths birthday"...

Re: 2006/11/22 - Dublin, IRL - The Point

I have to say that the only bad thing about the night (apart from the cough and cold from getting there :D) was the price of the t shirts and merchandise, even at other concerts i've been to, i've never paid e30 for a t shirt. that said, its a thing i do at all gigs, bring home a souvenier t shirt.

Re: 2006/11/22 - Dublin, IRL - The Point

Absolutely unreal show.. loved every second of it

But spare a thought for this guy I know who missed the gig and wrote this great story about why. Oh how we all hate bouncers:

On the 22nd of November TOOL had returned to Ireland to play a gig in the
point depot. I had been eagerly waiting for this gig for a long time as I
hadn’t seen the band play since Ozzfest 2002. My friends had queued up at
six o clock to try and get pit passes while I tried to flog extra tickets on
behalf of people who couldn’t make it to the gig. When I gave away the
tickets, my other friends rang me to meet up with them to get my pit pass.
I had been drinking whiskey earlier before entering the Point Depot.

Before meeting up with my friends I decided that I was going to treat myself
to an alcoholic beverage , but one of the bouncers of the two wouldn’t
except my identification which was a student I.D. which stated that I was
22. He told me that he would only except passport or driver’s licences. I
was quite pissed off , until this guy offered to give me one of his beers as
you couldn’t enter the show with alcohol. The bouncer who was obviously on a
power trip told the generous stranger that he would kick him out if he gave
me the drink. I told the guy that I appreciated the offer but to forget
about it.

I turned to the bouncer and asked him why was he being such an unreasonable
dickhead. He just ignored me and looked away, when I noticed that he had a
patriotic tattoo on his left forearm which was of an Irish flag and ‘Eire’
written underneath it meaning Ireland. I asked him was he a member of the
I.N.L.A. (Irish National Liberation Army) which is a criminal organisation
massive in working class Dublin believing they are patriots when they are
merely sectarian thugs who have a huge hand on the Irish drug trafficking
trade and prostitution. He looked at me dead in the eye and told me to ‘shut
the fuck up’ and that he wouldn’t mind smacking me. Not taking kindly to the
treat I told him I wouldn’t mind smacking him either and also said to him
that “a scumbags like you shouldn’t be working as a bouncer because you
have no people skills.” Then he warned me not to point at him as he would
break my finger, I saw his bluff and said to him “Go ahead, break my fucking
finger you Dublin skanger”. Skanger is a derogatory term for someone born in
Dublin city centre who are ill educated and are addicted to heroin. As he
was obviously highly offended he told the other bouncer what I had just
called him who also took offence to my remark. I interrupted their little
chat by saying to the other bouncer ‘sorry but I have no problems with you
its this dickhead to my right…’.

The bouncer I was talking to suddenly tried to chicken wing me which I
wouldn’t let get into a hold and wrestled out of. The other bouncer tried to
get me into head lock were I flipped him over. A third security personnel
came from behind and pulled me to the ground placing his knee to my neck and
the dickhead sticking his knee into my kidneys which they had no right to
do. They said that they were getting the Garda ( the Irish police) , I said
that I didn’t give a shit as I believed I didn’t to anything wrong besides
insult a bouncer, I also believed that I would be able to explain the
situation to the Guards. I was brought to my feet where I was formally
introduced to a 7 foot Guard . I wasn’t resisting arrest when the Guard put
me into a tight restrained hold , the Dickhead bouncer then got in my face
and showed me his broken cheap jewellery and said that I had broken it, I
told him that he had broken it himself by not being able to do his job
properly. The Guard escorted me out of the premises, when we were at the
entrance gates of the Point depot he said to me that I wouldn’t be seeing
the show and that I was to clear off. I tried to explain to him my stance on
the situation, he didn’t want to here it. I realised at that moment I wasn’t
going to see my favourite band perform and I was upset because I was really
looking forward to it.

I started to walk away from the obelisk of a Guard when these three teenaged
girls asked me what happened I explained to them that I was barred from the
gig for basically calling a bouncer a ‘skanger‘. They said that I shouldn’t
take it out on them which I didn’t notice I was doing and probably wasn’t it
was just that I was pissed off. As the girls seemed to be pissed off by my
manner I abruptly left them and continued to walk away from the venue when
I was tipped on the shoulder. I turned around and I was curious to see who
it was. To my surprise it was the 7th foot Guard. I thought that he was
getting my attention because he felt sorry for me and was going to leave me
in to the concert. No not at all, he just warned me that if I tried to go
back into the venue I would be arrested under Section 26 of the Irish
Constitution which is basically being drunk and disorderly. I told him that
I didn’t give a shit about being arrested and I understood the Section 26
and that I wasn’t being drunk and disorderly I was only voicing my opinion,
which it seems your not aloud to do anymore in this conservative global
village. So I showed the officer my wrists ‘if you are going to arrest me,
arrest me’.

‘Alright then’ said the big guard. Second time I wasn’t resisting arrest and
he flung my right arm around my back nearly pulling it out of my socket and
handcuffed me without even telling me my rights, the thick fuck probably
didn‘t even know what rights I had. ‘For fuck sake’ I screamed, a crowd of
TOOL fans stood and stared possibly trying to analyse why I was in this
situation, was I being arrested for being a drug dealer? or was I in a
fight? No! I was being arrested for calling someone a dickhead.

As the situation was dramatic enough. I decided that I was going to make the
situation even more dramatic by shouting out a statement to the onlookers .
I don’t remember fully but it went a little something like. “I am being
arrested for calling a bouncer a dickhead and being made an example of.
Don’t respect the state because the state doesn’t respect you. We live in a
Nanny state, so fuck’em and their law !” I started to freestyle rap ,with
some fancy leg work, about something about contemporary Irish society which
I can’t remember what exactly I said but it got a good response from the
onlookers with cheers and shouts, which made me feel, honestly, pretty cool.
The guard was pissed off so he aggressivly flung me into the back of a
paddy wagon. Were he left me for a half an hour. When he finally checked up
on me he asked how I was keeping I told him to go fuck himself and that he
was a fascist prick .

Re: 2006/11/22 - Dublin, IRL - The Point

He then moved me from one paddy wagon to another which brought me to the
police station. While on the journey to the police station I explained to
the officers in the front how the Garda Siochana stemmed from fascism of
Eoin O’Duffy blue shirts who was an admire of Benito Mussolini and I could
never and would never respect a fascist organisation. I asked the one of the
officers why I was arrested, none of them responded. I asked again, one of
them then replied by saying that I was arrested for being an asshole, which
I found funny and laughed. As the journey was boring I started to sing
Redemption songs by Bob Marley, just to piss them off in any possible way.
Fuckers believe they uphold the law when they are as good as the Free-Masons
for taking care of their own and deceiving the public about what is the
truth. Saying that they got enough on their plate with the gangland crimes
were they do fuck all. I am from Limerick and know too well about the
levels of unsolved murder in Ireland because of the Garda being a pile of
pussies and not tackling the real gangsters out there like the Taoiseach .

We finally got to the police station. I jumped out of the back of the paddy
wagon unescorted and still handcuffed and walked straight in to the
station. I was brought to a desk were I was to tell them my identification.
As I saw the situation as a big joke and knew I had completely no chance of
seeing the TOOL concert. I decided I was going to piss the Guards off even
more by giving sarcastic answers to their questions, at this point I didn’t
give a shit about how long I was going to be in custody for because the only
reason I was in Dublin that night was to see TOOL. “So do you have any
weapons?” asked the officer . I replied by telling him that I had a few
grenades in my socks and a rifle up my ass. He wasn’t impressed and told me
to take this seriously. I said I didn’t see anything serious about it so I
wasn’t going to respect the situation. Then a little leprechaun of a guard
wearing surgical gloves came to escort me to my sell. I told him that I
didn’t like people fiddling with my ass unless they used lubricant. “funny
man, heh!” said the little shit.

The small Guard brought me to the sell were he thoroughly searched me but
didn’t search my socks for the grenades. He asked me did I have any
syringes. I looked at him straight in the eye and said to him “Do I look
like a fucking junkie, yeah I got whole pocket full!”. He grabbed me by the
throat while I pressed up against his grip so that he couldn’t slam me
against the wall and to show him I had the superior strength. “Some of my
colleges have been pricked by needles, you cheeky fuck!” I told him I didn’t
give a shit and the way I was being treated they probably deserved it. They
took everything off me, so that I couldn’t damage the cell or to myself,
except for a 20 cent coin in the depth of my pocket, which I used to carve a
Thelema symbol into the floor with my 5 initials going around it with the
Latin phrase ‘Ordo ab chao’ . They left me in the cell alone for four
hours with routine checks trough a peephole on the cell‘s door. The guard
that had unlawfully arrested me told me that I wouldn’t be charged but I was
to be summonsed over the damage to the Dickhead bouncer‘s cheap Jewellery
which was a damaged link of a chain. I knew that, I wasn’t ever going to be
charged and everything they were doing was scare tactics. The big thick
guard gave me the impression that he thought that he was doing me a favour,
I saw quite the contrary. I had missed out of the gig of the year due to
these pricks sticking it to me all night. Lying to me that I was going to
be released in 15 minutes , when I wasn’t released for another two hours. I
don’t really know how long I was in that cell for as I didn’t have my watch
which they took off of me in case I hung myself with it.

If there was anything amusing about being in the cell for the night was the
little whining skanger bitch boy in the sell next to me. Who wouldn’t stop
screaming. “LET ME OUTTA HERE, lllllLLLET ME OUTTA HERE (sulk sulk). wwWWWHY
ARE YE DOING THIS TO ME (cry cry) YE FUCKING BASTARD!!!”. Which he screamed
for every moment he was in the cell. I over heard one guards say that he was
in there for stealing and was possibly in a lot more trouble than me. The
funny situation happened on one particular routine check on the little
skanger boy. The guard that was checking him opened the cell and asked him
was he alright. “FUCK YOU , YE BASTARD!”. As I witnessed the situation
trough the peephole of my cell, the guard asked him to verify his age. The
Skanger told him that he was 19 then 16, he was probably withholding his
identity as I never heard the little knacker being addressed by his first
name, which frustrated the guard. He then threatened the guard “WHAT I’AM
GONNA TO DO TO YOU’S!”. I was thinking to myself which one of the two
Skangers was the bigger idiot, the Dickhead who got me in this mess in the
first place or the little Bitch boy in the cell beside me.
“What did you say?” asked the guard to the little Skanger.
“WHAT I’AM GONNA DO TO YOU’S” replied the idiotic little bitch boy, who
started to walk into the Guards chest. The Guard grabbed him by the throat
and flung him back into the cell simultaneously saying
“Get back in there!” . Slamming the door and locking it in one continuous
movement followed by a second of silence and then a racket of screams and
yells.

Finally I was released from my brief incarceration at around 11.30 pm.
Missing the last bus home which I never intended in getting anyway. They
Guards always release you when the public transport is finished for the
night, fucking wankers. While I was getting my things back , I finally had
a chance to explain my side of the story. The Guard was interested in
hearing it but I didn’t bother finishing what I was saying for a number of
reasons . Firstly it was a lost cause and secondly I had missed the gig.
Anyway he didn’t really give a shit . When I got my phone back I had a
number of missed calls from friends and from home. The Guards had rang my
parents without my permission, So I rang my mother and explained to her what
exactly happened that I was arrested for basically calling a bouncer a
dickhead. She thought I was in a fight and couldn’t believe what I had to
tell her and also that I wasn’t telling her everything that happened when I
insisted that I was. She told me that the best thing for me to do was to go
back to her brother’s house and not to meet up with my friends. I stuck to
my mother’s wishes and got a taxi to Portmarnock to my uncle’s house which
cost 30 Euros.

While in the Taxi I told the taxi driver the predicament I was in. He
seemed interested and asked me did I believe their was freedom of speech in
this country. I told him that I didn’t think there was anymore. He replied
by saying there never was especially when you look at the situation with the
Shell pipeline, also that he didn’t give a shit whether I worshipped a
goat’s head or not, but the only thing I had to know is that it was a theory
of them and us. They are the police and we are the people and when the Garda
Siochana finish their training in Temple Mor that is drilled into their
heads that it is them and us. He also said that guards fabricate the truth
to protect themselves and he also ranted on about accepts of the Morris
tribunal. The conversation then went to a quick summary of all the shit
situations Ireland is in at the moment and how most people are in denial of
what situation they are really in being subservient to a hypocritical
unjustified system of control. I left the taxi relieved that I wasn’t the
only one who could see how shit my country really is.

I had a quick smoke and entered my Uncle’s house. My mother had rang
previous to my entrance to explain the situation I just had been in. I gave
them a brief Summary of the nights ordeals which they found quite amusing
and knew that everything was going to be squashed and that I would probably
wouldn’t be even summonsed. The only thing I regret is not seeing the show,
but at least My belief that the state is full of bullies who love to abuse
the little power they have is rectified and I don’t believe I will respect
this nation of bullying fascist pricks who are far worse than any other
government organisation in this country even the ones associated with NAMBLA
(North American Man/Boy love Association).

Thank you for reading my rant and god bless. R.S.G.J.H.

Re: 2006/11/22 - Dublin, IRL - The Point

It was simply the most incredible show I've ever seen. I'm so grateful for all the beauty I was able to witness... Those two magical hours in Dublin... it was like all my fears, worries and weaknesses were washed away by the flood of sound and light. I can still feel this positive energy, I treasure it inside me, it's a power to create something precious. I remember when I went outside after the concert it was raining... 'Cleanse and purge me in the water', I thought. We were praying for rain and heaven heard us out ;)
Oh, Reverend Maynard, thanks for the chance of being a part of it. It was an honor to support you :) And bright orange is very flattering on you, of course...
Oh, Irish people, thanks for your warmth and openness, 'cause I'm actually Polish and I flew to Ireland just to see ']['([])([])]_ and day later I was back to Poland. I fell in love with your country and I'd like to visit Emerald Isle again as soon as possible. Hopefully next summer... ;)

Mickey having read your tale of woe I have this to say, if you had kept your mouth shut you would have seen the gig. No matter how much a bouncer acts the prick, if you respond, you'l never win.

No sympathy for Mickeys friend, trying to make a point but on the wrong occasion. Sounds just as well though, Tool wouldn't appreciate bonehead fans....

Try living in the north dude! :)

Re: 2006/11/22 - Dublin, IRL - The Point

My first Tool show and the best concert I've ever seen. A few dickheads in the crowd but the band were on top form, and I was very surprised at how polite and pleasant Maynard was when he spoke. His performance was absolutely flawless as well, he was truly something to be marvelled at. The sound for Mastodon was absolutely atrocious though, it was so obnoxious that it gave my girlfriend such a headache I had to take her to the first aid tent and she missed the first half of Tool's set, which was a real pity. Fortunately she felt better in time to see everything from Wings for Marie to Ænema, which was definitely the high point of the show. I almost came during Lateralus. I'll definitely be going in summer.

As for the above story, I feel sorry for the guy, but if he really wanted to see Tool he should have had more sense. Gardai and Bouncers are for the most part really stupid fucks, it's easy to get around them as long as you make them believe that you're playing their game.

hear hear.

almost sounds like the guy was looking for a row...had he never met a bouncer before?

and in any case very few places accept student id anymore...its hardly surprising.

Gig was AWESOME!!! Stinkfist was orgasmic. It was my first Tool gig but definitely not my last! I thought the laser show was beautiful-I almost cried! Mastodon were shockingly bad and the sound quality was poor but much better for Tool. I LOVE ADAM JONES!!!!
