There's so much kitschy junk that goes along with stuff like that to pad the pricing. It's kinda sad, but it makes living more comfortable for some.

$150? APC's Opiate EP, i guess. jfc.
I don't think $150 is too bad. It contains a Live DVD, 3 live albums and a bunch of other shit. Seems to be much better value (at least as far as the contents go) than Opiate.

I won't be buying though. It'll take more than a live release of eMotive to get me back on the bandwagon.

Yes it is. Fuzz said it best.

I hope they release these things separately at appropriate prices. I would consider it at that point.

I agree with hellboy that its not that bad of a price. It also includes the live red rocks show on CD. So a good mix of tracks on there and that would make it 4 CD's aleast. I could give two shits about the guitar pick and signatures. All that live stuff is the reason I am pulling the trigger on it. Also if they get some tracks from the Vegas show that I was at that makes it more personal to me. Plus the palms have a recording studio connected to the pearl theater.

$150 isn't that bad, buying all their shit when it was released prolly set me back $120, and there's more than that here in a much nice package.

Edit: Upon further investigation, shipping is $70 haahhahaah

you're right, we probably won't see anything of that quality again.

I won't be buying though. It'll take more than a live release of eMotive to get me back on the bandwagon.
as a package it pisses all over that opiate re-release. but come on, that's not saying much.

it's still not something i think is appropriately priced. given how long the studio albums have been available, in a collection i'd price them at no more than 5 bucks apiece. the live albums, no more than 10. the live dvd, ill be generous and say 30... that leaves over half the item cost for packaging, a few fancy pictures, some bonus live tracks that we've all heard a million times on the internet, and a guitar pick. i would say 100 bucks is fair and 85 would make me entertain a purchase.

as is, i will not send more money...

I hate pirating anything, but shit like this boxed set makes me feel otherwise. Not that I want any of the contents (music, kitsch or otherwise).

I think $150 is not bad for several discs of audio, a dvd, some random junk, and an autograph.

Their new greatest hits album is a joke, though.

I read this today. What a fucking joke. I read an interview w/ Maynard today regarding it. I guess the record label wanted to get this out. There will be 2 editions of the album.

Maybe one of these days we'll get some substantial Tool news...one day.

I think the reality here is APC are done recording new albums, and this is the get out of jail card being playing in regards to their recording contract.

i don't think we'll get any news by the end of the year, still hoping for it, though. deluxe edition seems actually good for the new listeners, but they could just buy mer de noms and thirteenth step with a much cheaper price.

i was at that red rocks show and it was one of the lamest concerts I've ever been to. I've seen APC quite a few times and they usually put on a great show, but that show was mostly emotive crap. No energy at all. That alone makes this box set over priced.

When a band finishes an album how quickly can the record company manufacture the product and ship it out? I tend to think that the process of manufacturing really slows everything down.

How much leverage do you think Tool has in this regard? For example, is the band contractually obligated to release the next record on CD? Is it legally possible for the next record be a digital release? At least digital initially - with a physical product going on sale sometime later? I think that this is the scenario that I am hoping for.

edit: Pretty sure Tool still aren't interested in releasing digital copies of their albums. Think one or more of them even said that in an interview recently.

I liked it.

But I'm not dying to hear it live, or even the CD for that matter. Heard it enough. Not interested anymore.

Saw it as a fluff album, experimenting. Never understood why people got so bent out of shape over it.

But since it came out only a year after 13th step and coupled with aMotion, I always just saw it as "Hey, here's some other stuff too."

I don't know how you can say that's a bad set list.
That's a terrible set list and the show really had zero energy. Took some people who had never seen them before and they were ready to leave mid way through. I've been to many APC shows, and this was by far the worst. Emotive has one good and one decent song on the whole album. Take out most of the emotive and even withe he show being short it's better than the show I saw
