I really hope tool to change the tracklist for this gig,
Dont want to hear the same thing from superrock 4 months ago..
Pushit and disposition+reflections would be great
olà! are tickets still available!!!!¿??? i am in spain right now so i would like to buy a ticket over the internet if that is possible. also, who has been to the atlantico?? is it really big? i was at superbock a couple months ago, also, and although it was a great show i was a little dissappointed with the acoustics...hopefully this place will be better! obrigada...

Acoustics in the Atlantico Pavillion are not great...
hey oh yo hello ! yes finally ! tool at least solo ! in PT !
with the great tempo frantics mastodon and his newwwwww debut album (nice reefs/rifs).
Overhelming is tha word ... and font forget "pavilhão Atlântico" should only be direct sound , no reverb or reflections (dam those fabrics) ! so ! From the F.O.H. (technician) make a triangular (rect?90º) angle to the stage endings . Choose your spot ! ill be on the front row lest next to adam i guess...laterzz
I really don't mind earing the same songs as in SuperBock concert, it's Tool again! After this it's gonna take about 5 more years to release a new album and start another tour. I bought the tickets 2 weeks ago and there were many tickets left (1700+ 30 euros tickets, 500+ 35 euros tickets).
Mastodon have just released their 3rd album, not their debut. I liked the sound in SBSR, I think it was way better then in the Deftones concert, all fuzzy and stuff... and I was told the sound in Pavilhão Atlântico was bad but in the past summer I went there to see Sigur Rós and I have no complaints. Of course Tool's sound is a much more heavy, louder sound but I think it has more to do with the spot where we choose to see the concert.
well its new ... so i could i guess i can call it the new debut !
i have them all , isaw thiem live in superbock i even play their songs ! mortal soil has got this nice harmonic change i cant really explain so i play it . Dont forget sounds travels by air ,low frequencies have strength its true ,more cientific and accurate ! Good luck , where are you from the lowlands B.N. ?

Yeah. That's tonight. Second time this year. But the set really let me down. Ahhh... fuck it, whatever they play is awesome. But i'll love to see Wings and a couple of old songs.

Let's just cross our fingers and hope that portuguese wine is better than the spanish one and that Maynard feel inspired to sing wings for marie and 10,000 days :))
or maybe disposition/reflection just like the ozzfest!!
and maybe a bigger concert than SBSR or even ozzfest... :)))))
ok.. I am hoping too much!! Just going to the show will be great as great as the previous 2 were!
I´m back from the show. And it really sucked.sorry guys but im really pissed off.It was the same shit. The sound was bad because the pavillion has a really bad acoustic, sometimes the voice of maynard failed.it was failures with the guitar.and i'm kinda of tired of earing the same songs all the time.I've been a huge fan of them since 1998 and today im really disapointed.Maynard said that they will come back in the end of the summer, if its for the same shit i´m not going. The interludes between the songs were bad,it really didn't fit.And i really wanted to see mastodon also, but they opened the doors very late that when mastodon started to play there was just ten guys inside the pavillion.I only had the chance to see 3 musics, i was really pissed off with that. Most of the people were all outside complaining.
But i enjoyed Stinkfist,Schism,Lateralus,Vicarious and Aenema.
There were new lights, and new scenes on the videos.
The setlist was the same that they played yesterday in spain, not even the wings they played.
I am kinda of sad and disapointed...

There's a lot happening in this post... lol... for example:
1) You repeat your frustrations of the concert at the beginning and the end.
2) You use the wrong words at times; ex: "Maynard said that they will come back in the end of the summer." Was the Summer an object? I would have said "He says they will come back at the end of the Summer."
3) Maynard's voice did not "FAIL;" The sound system FAILED.
4) "I only had the chance to see 3 musics..." You mean... 3 SONGS???????
5) You were dissappointed, but you "ENJOYED" 1/2 the concert... (10 songs total)
I missed half of your post, because I could not decipher it.... sounds like a bad show from your standpoint.

i'd like to see you make your next post in word perfect portuguese...
Long story short, another great Tool show. A few facts anyway:
1. The doors were opened in a timely fashion, but unfortunately the security barriers were real bottlenecks. This meant people like me who got in line around 7pm only got inside the venue about 8.45pm. Which really blows, because I only caught like half of Mastodon's set and I was really looking forward to check them out again, with the new songs and all. While still in line, I asked a security guy who was wandering around what the hell was taking so long, with the opening band already playing and all, and he said that one of the band members demanded exhaustive searching on everybody getting into the venue plus no moshing/crowdsurfing and the usual no cameras, etc... To be honest, I hate when my favorite musicians turn really picky, but I've come to terms with Tool in this respect. It's the price I have to pay for their incredible music even if it means being let down sometimes. In this case it meant half of Mastodon's set for me and only the last few notes (if that!) to other more unfortunate (and late) people.
2. Mastodon was very very good and Brann Dailor, the drummer, is simply insane. That guy doesn't do rhythm, he sorta just does fills the entire time. Which, by the way, looks and sounds amazing. What I was able to catch of their set included "Colony of Birchmen", "Sleeping Giant", "I Am Ahab", "Megalodon" and "Hearts Alive" (which was the highlight for me!) if I'm not mistaken.
3. I don't think the sound was that bad as some people have mentioned. Granted, the acoustic in this venue isn't great but I think it really depends where you're standing. I was facing stage left, so I was pretty much in front of Justin and Danny and it sounded pretty good to me (and I'm kinda picky about sound quality, believe me!). It was above average as far as I'm concerned and it definitely enhanced both shows.
3. Yes, Tool playing the same setlists, especially when visiting the same countries a few months apart, is not very cool. I don't complain much however because a) I wasn't really able to see them properly a few months ago and b) it's a Tool show, dammnit. They could be playing Stinkfist and Vicarious all night, it would still be kickass. OK, not really, but you get the point.
4. Maynard again wore a gas mask for the duration of the show. I have nothing personal against anyone that smokes but I find that to be a very good way of telling those people to shove it. I wish everyone who wanted to smoke to be able to do it but also that anyone who does NOT want to smoke to ALSO be able to do that. I think I'll bring a gas mask along too next time around, because I had the misfortune of being surrounded by as much as four smokers sometimes.
5. Highlights for me were definitely "Schism", "Sober" and most of all "Vicarious". None was below Tool's average really - though I have a hard time getting into "Rosetta Stoned" at all. I think the band pretty much nailed everything (with the exception of those verses in "Vicarious" that go like "We all feed on tragedy, it's like blood to a vampire" where Maynard only sung "We all feed..." and then the band launched immediately into the climax of the track. Seemed like a bit of a trainwreck to me, but that's fine).
6. If they had played "Wings" and "10,000 Days", this would've been the perfect show as far as I'm concerned (I'm even willing to discount "Eulogy"). In this case, it was "only" great and an excellent night out with one of the best bands around.
That's all I can think of right now.
Oh and dissing the grammar of people in a public internet forum? That sucks, man.
hey. Got back from the concert! Really big disappointment!!! 1st of all they searched my entire bag without any reason! I had a couple of juice cartons and had to put them in the trash otherwise I couldn't get in. They even searched my wallet!! I am a girl, c'mon!! There are a thounsand things at a girls bag and they saw it all!! This meticulous search of everyones bags really delayed the entrance of the public and most of the people were still outside while Mastodont started playin.. lack of respect! The place was empty! The sound was a huge mess, my ears are still hurting.. Then came Tool! I really had enjoyed the concert at SBSR and the one in Ozzfest but this one sucked!! It was a bad copy of the SBSR concert. Instead of Right in two they played rosetta stoned! The rest was copy paste! And their presence in stage was ZERO! Maynard was singing HALF of what he is able to and there were lots of mistakes!! I really felt that they were at their job, making their money.. I hated! Huge disappointment! Let's just hope that NIN in February erases this!!
Pretty tired now, but at least my car didn't broke as in SBSR =) I'll post more detaild info when the official thread is opened, but I'll just leave one question:
When the band stopped and sat down on stage, does anyone else has the feeling that they didn't play wings because too little lighters were on? Like it it was a test?
It was a great show. The new cinematics are incrdible!I think we had the previlege to see what can trully be the Rosetta Stone Video! Great images of UFO conspiracy. GREAT! Justin just kicked some serious ass. I just love him. Adam seemed like he was bored but i guess thats the way he is live. Maynard looked cool and Carey rocks! I just regret that the show was so short. No encore, nothing. At least two hours guys! At least Maynard said the magic words: "See you in the end of next summer" Let´s hope it´s true and that the show is a Tool concert not on a festival or something...
1. Although the sound was really bad sometimes (why they always have to put the sound the louder they cab get? then it distorts everything), I enjoyed the concert.
2. It is ridiculous we have to pay 30€ to see a concert where you wait 1 hour to enter (I didn't see Mastodon at all :\ ) and to have to deal with that kind of sound - too loud and distorted. But in the end it was worth the money...
3. Maynard's voice didn't fail. It was the sound. Many times I put the hands in my ears and it sounded sooo much better. You could hear anything - the drums, strings and maynard's voice - which was great, although he hasn't pushed the limits like in the beginning of The Pot in SBSR.
4. Same setlist... yes that's a pity. I expected at least one surprise.
5. I think that the concert in 2002 @ Estádio do Restelo is something that will never be surpassed. I liked this concert but it in my opinion the setlist, visuals and maynard's speak were way better back in 2002. That was the concert of my life, I guess...
6. I think the visuals for this concert were better and more spectacular that in SBSR.
There's no point in spamming, but I did write him an email expressing my concerns...
Quote:
As someone who attended 3 shows from the past european tour, and planning to attend 2 on the current one (munich, stuttgart)..and then seeing them in melbourne when I return to Australia (crikey-land) next year...I don't want to sound ungrateful or arrogant when I ask: should I bother?
Is there any reward to be gained from spending hard-earned money to see one of my most admired bands to just watch the same show apart from just being senseless 'notches on my belt'? And I know what you might say...Tool's back catalogue is slightly more complicated than say, Pearl Jam (who can potentially play any song they've ever done on a given night), or perhaps like Mr. Waters or Mr. Gilmour...those guys pretty much just play 1 setlist per tour every night, because it's not logistically possible to mix it up that much every night (and the same applies to Tool).
Having said all that, I think the following also needs to be said...One of the main things musically that drew me in with band was how they refuse to be predictable, refuse to compromise artistically for anyone. With regards to the live show...I had not seen Tool live before this year, though over the past 5 years I've been hearing what an incredible experience it is and how it's hard to predict what one might experience at one of their concerts.
If over 3 separate tours I can only expect to see pretty much the same 11-12 songs, then I might have to think twice about any subsequent tours for this album. Perhaps it's my fault for getting my expectations up, but perhaps the guys are also letting down their loyal fans a little by becoming predictable. If they keep playing the same setlists over and over, then people will probably be more hesitant to fork over their money when they coeme back again right? And at the end of the day, Tool aren't doing this simply to cash in their paychecks...are they? I for one certainly hope not.
