Kanaduh, I couldn't agree more...I think that Pushit is my favorite Tool song altogether. Right In
Two just happens to be one of the two songs that I have not seen live, so I'll take that trade as well.

Maybe we should have some kind of meeting place for the Cincy show? Anyone?

I'm thinking about going over in the late afternoon/early evening and wasting some money at the River Downs track and bar. Plus apparently parking is better there than actually trying to park at Riverbend.

I was planning on going early but I might not be able to get there until like 4-5ish. We've got seats, so I don't have to get there too early to rush the pit mobs. We'll probably go over to Newport (in KY right across the river) and eat dinner on the Levy. You can see Riverbend from there. Its where the aquarium and Imax are, for anyone who's not familiar.

There are a few really good restaurants/bars over there if anyone wants to meet up there. We haven't set a definite place/time yet though. Any thoughts?

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

I think people may be putting "the pussy on a pedestal," with Pushit. I witnessed the album version in Duluth '07, and while it was an awesome experience, it didn't change the entire concert for me. Maybe you guys have iron-trap memories, but I cannot remember individual feelings during particular songs at concerts. I'm just left with a generalized feeling of what that show was like in total. For example, the Spring Pearl shows were nearly religious experiences because of the sound, the venue, the crowd, and the landscape of Nevada. It made a big impression. The Duluth show, while finely done, wasn't as remarkable experience (for me) because it was in a less-intimate arena in, well, Georgia... (and I'm born/raised in Georgia; let's be honest). And this week's Charlotte show was very difficult to get into because of the shite venue and imbecilic crowd.

I guess all I'm saying is don't miss the beauty of the forest because you can't find one rare specie of tree. But, of course, you can enjoy your concert anyway you see fit.

It's really hard for me to pick one Tool moment, but it's also pretty easy to remember seeing Tom Morello jam during Lateralus with 80K people behind me...

I'm with you 420scooter!
I also witnessed the 80K hippies having their minds blown open in Bonnaroo.
The guy next to me (if you can call him that) was screaming at the top of lungs, countless times, in a row................"Can you beleive this! Can you fuckin' beleive this?"

I had to move................he didn't smell to pretty.

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

pushit fans

grab this:

http://www.zshare.net/download/6342707920f3fe88/
ps. 3:00 into the Grudge, the crowd = FTW

and best Tool concert memory for me has to be,

1.....Toronto at the Ampitheatre in summer 2006, it starts raining and the band launches in to wings/10k (which has parts that sound like its raining in the background) and in reality it IS raining that night also, and I'm in the floors high off my ass and the lasers start up and they are extending going all the way to the back of the ampitheatre to the lawns and I'm nice and safe and 30 feet away from Adam right down on the floors...and kind of chuckling because of the poor bastards on the lawns getting rained on at the same time I'm just staring at the lasers shining on the roof. good times.

memory number 2 - extended Lateralus at Copps in July 07, best I've ever seen danny/adam/justin perform. tight as absolute faaaakh.

memory number 3. sept 2001 at ACC in Toronto, me and handful of friends were lucky enough to get floors, the rest of our friends were stuck in the seats (and none to happy about it), my buddy daniel decides he HAS to get our one friend down on the floors because it's not the same without him. So once the show starts, lights dim and things get hectic he somehow makes it into the seats and grabs our friend and rush down on to the floors where they get chased by security and then they worm into the crowd and find me close to the front and the three of us were fucking happy as shit because the Grudge was starting and three best friends and huge Tool fans were there to witness it together.

The only cover I want to hear is No Quarter...ok check that, I'll take any variation of the current setlislt at all, but obviously the Zeppelin cover would be epic!

I've eaten at Brio and Cafe Istanbul...both are really good. Don't know much about bars on the Newport side though - I've only been to the one that's inside the mall area at the levy.

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

My all-time best Tool memory was indeed the re-introductin of Pushit at Cox Arena on May 3rd, 2007. It stands out above all other performances I have ever seen in my last decade of concert-going. I remember Maynard's words so well, "Here's one we haven't played in a while...just think of us as a cover band". That got the crowd thinking intently on what was coming next. Then that unforgettable "E-Bow" like sound started coming from the stage and this other long-time fan and I looked at each-other at the exact same moment and yelled, "NO FUCKING WAY!!!!!" Out of all of the arena performances I've seen thus far, Cox was the best from an acoustic perspective. Right in Two from the prior night's show hit so hard. Every building or enclosed space has a natual ressonance to it, a frequency or band of frequencies that are naturally amplified by about 12dB, also known as the transfer function (ala car subwoofers). Tool's low end punched hard in Cox Arena thanks to this phenonenon. During Adam's badass solo from Pushit, he kept sweeping into that magic range. I could actually see this acoustic power transfer itself among the fans, it was literally like when a crowd does a "wave" at a baseball game. When the wave hit our side section, it literally felt like I was no longer in control of my body. I felt this pressure wave tap deep into my body, it was so visceral, indescribable. They use acoustic shock-waves in medicine to break up kidney stones. Anyone in the audience with a kidey-stone would have left this Pushit show peeing out bloody gravel it was so intense. Astronauts have reported a similar experiene upon launch, when the rocket resonates so strongly that it produces an "acoustic orgasm" bordering between pain and pleasure. It's interesting how a song about this pain vs. pleasure / love vs. hate concept actually creates these effects in the listener in a live setting. Sorry for elaborating to such an extent on this, but Pushit really was that damned amazing. I wish the band would recognize its power and put it back in rotation. I bet it's a hard one for Maynard though, on many levels. My apologies to all of those who have not witnessed this magical performance.

My favorite Tool concert memory was at the Oakland Arena on the 2002 tour. I was in a very enhanced state of mind. During the end of Lateralus when Danny hit the gong for a brief moment my body felt like at shattered into a million tiny pieces dissolving with the sound of the gong. Prior to that show I never really noticed Danny hitting the gong, since that show I've never missed it. That moment will live with me forever.

You may have heard that. they have definitely been doing very tiny teases. I heard a Right in Two tease before Lost Keys in SLC and I also heard a very, very brief 4 degrees tease that same night. And I was sober (no pun intended) that night.

I hear you. Both of those shows were fantastic. Two of my favorite Tool performances. On top of the shows, the scene over two nights at Howard Johsons between the fans was a friggin blast. Great memories.

Where are the boots from those nights?

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

So... Question.

Our sitter bailed on us for Friday night. I am determined not to miiss the show in Cincy. My options are to sell my other ticket and sit by someone I don't know, which wodnt be terrible as long as they're not some freak. Or, I can take my daughter who is 10. My seats are in the 200 section, so it's not like I'll be in the pit. Plus they're almost isle seats, so that's a plus. What would you do? I just wonder if she's too young. This would be her 1st concert ever. And I wish my parents had been cool enough to take me to a rock concert when I was 10.

If it's a GA show i guess it's fine to take her. 10 isnt too young, my daughters going to be born in october, and I hope tool keep playing so she can see them some day. So yeah, take her. Maybe some ear plugs too in case it's too loud for her. Otherwise ya might have to leave if she doesnt like it. SO just in case.

I might not be the right person to answer this question because I'm not familiar with the area or the venue, but if she likes Tool's music, or at least tolerates it, and isn't bothered by loudness (and usually their live sound is crystal clear...almost like listening to the CD very loudly), I would take her. That's just my opinion of course. From my experiences, Tool crowds are usually pretty tame at amphitheaters, so you wouldn't have to worry about her getting hurt. I'm not familiar with PNC Pavilion, but when I saw Tool at a similar venue in a different area of the country (the Tweeter Center in Mansfield, MA), the crowd was very respectful, and the entire venue had seats, so there was no moshing or craziness. The only thing I would worry about with a 10 year old, to be honest, is the constant smell of pot at Tool concerts. I understand that smoking weed is a way some people choose to enjoy themselves at a concert, so I'm not condemning anyone, but I'm not sure if you would want your 10 year old daughter around that stuff at all. But if she likes Tool's music even in the slightest and you do decide to take her, it will be an experience she would most likely never forget. I'm assuming you have seen Tool's live show so I don't need to describe it, but I will say that just the visual show alone is an incredible and breathtaking experience. And when you add the music, it all comes together perfectly.

But it's totally up to you, and I'm just voicing my opinion, but I would personally take her if I were in your situation so you don't end up sitting next to some weirdo that you don't know. And if your main concern is injury, and you have seats in section 200 like you mentioned, judging by the seating chart, I'd say she will be fine. I mean, if you were alot closer to the stage you might have to worry, but if you were alot closer to the stage, everyone would most likely be standing for the whole show, so she wouldn't even be able to see. But with the way your seats sound from what you're describing, it seems like it would be fine to bring her. But again, that's just my opinion.

My parents were cool enough to take me to concerts at that age, so I say take her. Because of my parents I was lucky enough to see Floyd perform the Wall when I was 12.

That is something to be proud of! I'm sad to say my 1st concert was Warrant/Firehouse/Trixter. Not exactly something you want a momento from. The only thing I brag about is the fact that my ticket only cost me $18!

You know... I didn't even think about the pot. Call me crazy!

At the last show I went to in 07, we were sitting front row in the seats right beside Adam. I don't do floors anymore, I'm too old. And honestly, I had more issues with beer being spilt on me than any sort of pot smell. I smelled more pot at an outdoor Blues Travelers show last summer than I did the last Tool show. So that is something I'll have to consider. She's pretty sheltered, so she might not even know what it is.

I wasn't too concerned with saftey so much, but more the thought of her not liking it and wanting to leave. I will def be packing some ear plugs. She's already kind of excited over it and has told me I have to take a pic of her there so she can prove to her friends that she went. Of course, like she said, her friends don't even know who Tool is. They're all stuck up Hannah Montana's ass and drooling over the JoBros. *sigh* I think I just might have to take her just to expose her to real music.

That's awesome spacement! My parents are passive music listeners and never do live shows. On a side note i see you were at the Reno 11/23/02 show. How was that show? I've got the flac and dvd of that show and watch/listen to it weekly. It's probably the best show of the 21st century. I'm also pretty sure they recorded it for that alleged DVD release they've been talking about for the past 8 years.

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion

Hey, I just want to make an after-comment about Tweak Bird.

What a kick-ass couple of guys along with their flute/sax player(s). I wonder what kind of f'd up tuning Caleb uses? That is a crazy sound he has. Is he using some sort of harmonizer on his guitar? And Ashton with his minimal kit. The Lateralus thing in Charlotte started out as Danny whipping his ass but turned into a pretty fucking cool groove by the end. He makes me wonder why Danny and Niel Peart have all those drums....

I don't know if I will ever buy a Tweak Bird CD, but I would probably go see every show within 50 miles of me that they do.

I will have to agree with you. I was at the Charlotte show and they blew me away.
I already have their EP "Reservations". Its short but I could listen to it over and over.
