you liked it?
yeah i tried to layer that with your drums it sort of worked but it was kind of hard to figure out because i didn't know how the drumming fits with the guitar.
that is NOT my final version it's full of mistakes ...... glad you liked it though... i'm hoping you know my guitar is on the right speaker, the rest is just the mp3 of schism... and not me.. right?

So Holy Reality is on guitar for schism, and whos on guitar for 46&2?

why opiate ...?
why not something really fucking insane like cold and ugly?
I'd do either. Hell, I'll sign up to do the bass duties where there aren't any. That should work.

Cool. I'll learn the bass to it.
Ok the timing on that's pretty screwy. It'll take me a while. I know most of Hush though, if you want to do that :) slappage :)

Inner, I'm havin problems with cold and ugly ... i.e. the timing on the riff. It'll take some time. If you're not in a rush, cool. If you are, I know hush, inside and out. Give me a day and I'll give you a really really good take for it

Hey, can you do me a favor. I was bored and went to TDN for the first time in three of four months, and I noticed the TDN Tool Tribute thread. I'd be down to record vocals for any Tool song. I have a full studio set up at this point, and I'd love to cover some Tool. Can you prehaps post that on there for me? Please and thanx.

okay i have a sort of solid guitar track done
things wrong with it: the ending, breakdown thing, it confuses the fuck out of me, I don't think i played it right in this one, need to redo that part.
no synth part yet. oh and the first triplet part is played too fast, I'll fix that too.
(actually i might just re-do the whole thing tomorrow.... but.. i know it'll sound better with the bass and drums around it)
oh and i've been meaning to layer the hammer ons into the solo, i skipped them while recording.
I added a bit of pick scrapes toward the end... let me know if you want them to stay or not... I'm a bit unsure, I'd probably redo them the same but without accidentally hitting the low D note that sounds out.
so this is not done yet but it's getting there, it fits with the cd, etc.
www.angelfire.com/hiphop3/holyreality1 look at the thing that says "my favorite things about angelfire" the link is in there.

Holy, I hope you don't take offense at this, but you need to record it to a click track. It will help you immensely.
the second set of triplets is a little better.
Where you start palm-muting again, for the first 4 times it feels like you're still trying to master it (I recognize that this isn't the final, I'm just pointing out).
there's a groove in there, that's all low on the d string, good job :) I like it.
the palm mutes around 2:40 are good. You've got it down at this point, it sounds like.
The interlude is awesome. Throw on some heavy reverb, and it'd be fuckadellically sweet.
The end is fuckadellic. It's getting better and better. I love the layers dude, esp with the scrapes, it's RICH. FUCKIN RICH MAN. This makes me want to wank it, right now. Seriously. Groovegasms.
The end triplets are good.
Work on the intro a little bit, and it'll be perfect. Those layers were a NICE touch. trust me.

thanks bro, i usually start sucking and then catch the "groove" about you know 30-40 minutes (errm seconds) into the song....
but umm.. the thing with my palm muting is (you're kind of right) i pick at a really fucking odd angle, and unless I have a hugeass guitar (ala my Yamaha Pacifica) it's rather hard to alternate pick while PMing.... so yeah...
anyway glad you like the end.... I figure i'll just warm up tomorrow and totally retrack, see if it's any better.... if not after a few tries I"ll just re-record a few segments and put all the stuff together.
"there's a groove in there, that's all low on the d string, good job :) I like it. "
also what are you referring to here? there's not really much action on the low d string for this song... maybe you meant the "standard tuning low d" which would be the middle d in this case, since i'm in drop d.... (5 millionth edit: maybe you mean the pick scrapes?)
and what's a click track? metronone? those piss me off for some reason I can't really play to them.
as one last edit: it's funny when i listen to my solo i keep hearing the little two note bell part, and I'm like "did i add that?" but i'm just so used to hearing it my mind is adding it in for me, hearing it in my head, so to speak, it's pretty cool and a bit creepy.

hmm...
well anyway...
what i'd like to do providing i'm good enough and patient enough is just plop the full song into multi track view (i don't know why i haven't been doing that while recording)
and then do two recordings of me hopefully playing the same... EQ one real heavy, then one just leave it this tone, and like, mix the two together... try to get the main track in stereo that way.....
and i can just leave the pick scrapes, they don't have to move at all......
that would kick ass.

just too let you all know. I'd like to sign up for doing vocals on H if your guys plan on doing that one.
Also, i'd really like to do Lateralus if you guys can get that accomplished.

i can do lateralus on bass...
and holy, i believe both the bass and guitar play the intro, and then the bass kicks in the triplets.
