This also happends to be my favorite TooL song ever. It needs more love =)
wow man your fasinated with screaming? Tool is not all about the screams. Please understand that. You said in another post that maynard lost his screaming ability. You need to focus deeper on the music and not just the screaming.
Cheers,
It takes raw talent to hit the note and hold it as long as he does. Maynard's screams are an intricate part of their music, and usually are the staple of the song or climax of the song.
You need to understand music and singing i guess to really appreciate an incredible scream like this..and that takes a moderate amount of intellect so im sure that what i wrote really makes no sense to you.
And please tell me the difference in complimenting maynards amazing scream in this song as opposed to commenting on danny carey's drumming? Both are very hard to do and take an amazing amount of skill. And both, once again, are extremely vital parts of the band.
Please educate yourself before you try to act smart. Alll you did with the post above this is show everyone here how naive you are to what makes tool an amazing band to alot of people. Maynard nailing an awesome scream is just as important as the subject matter, the drumming, the guitar/bass work to me and my friends, if you listen to them for a different reason...more power to you.
Real intelligent people can convey an idea, or express a thought without insulting the other person. Human beings with intelligence understand that if they can get their idea across without sounding arrogant they will be way more effective in changing the minds of others.
Take that last paragraph any way you want =).

I listened to this scream once back in like 94 and thought, man, this guy screams on key better than anyone, ever. This one in particular cuts like a knife, I agree with the original poster, this is my favorite one as well.
Ever seen him just do a gutteral scream live? It was awe inspiring, he like raised up in the air and curled his spine backwards and just let loose this bellow.

That's exactly what makes his screams so incredible. The fact that he screams specifically on key. It's a skill I can't even imagine how someone would develop or work on. Props to Maynard.

Kurt Cobain was a fucking joke, I don't care what anyone says about that.
This song is sick, I like the scream right after the spoken part,
"I'm naked and fearless, and my fear is NAKED" plus the whole dead inside part is screaming right?
When I first heard that scream, I had a sesiure. It was like "Hot Damn! How does he scream like that?!?" This song is just filled to the brim with energy from maynard. Definetly one of the best.
This will probably always be my favorite performance from Maynard... so much energy and two beautiful warcries, the second of which can't be topped for me.

I dunno maybe I have a different interpretation of a scream but if a scream has tonality I'm usually inclined to qualify it as singing and not screaming...like "STICK THAT FUCKING FINGER UP YOUR AAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS" in HWAP is borderline for me..."GOOD-BYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" in Eulogy is not a scream in my opinion, it's a vocal note being hit by Maynard.
That being said, my favorite Maynard screams have to be the beginning of Third Eye after "in...out...in...out...", the one I mention from Hooker with a Penis, and the one at the climax of The Grudge (though it's really pushing it for me to call that a scream).
Actually I find MJK's best scream not even on a tool song. Know Your Enemy with Rage. His scream is sick. I kno a lot of people think the foo fighters music is kinda gay but dave grohl is one of the greatest screamers ever.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the new scream in Stinkfist. That shit sent chills down my spine when I saw it live. "Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiggggghhhhhht!"
I was like, "Holy fuck man! What demon possessed him when he did that."
Man in the box or Love hate love - facelift - Alice in chains - Layne Staley
Far beyond the wheel - ultramegaOK - Soundgarden - Chris Cornell (I wish he had his voice back :(... )
Listen to these songs they dominate!!!
No shit about Cornell... I actually think his two best vocal performances are Slaves and Bulldozers off of Badmotorfinger and Superunknown off of, well, Superunknown.
You're right about Staley too. Man come to think of it I think the art of the rock scream died with the 90s. Everyone modern either death growls or does empty, toneless screams. Screaming on key is truly a lost art.
