Re: 2006/05/12 - Minneapolis, MN - Orpheum Theatre

I do have to say every minute it took to drive up to Minneapolis from Chicago was worth it because this show was so fucking amazing it sends chills up and down my spine. The band sounds tighter and heavier than they ever have before not that they weren't heavy or tight to begin with they just get better after every album is released. The setlist was completely fucking flawless I loved every freaking song that they played especially Rosetta Stoned, Jambi, The Pot,Vicarious,Lateralus,Stinkfist,46 and 2 and AEnima but the whole fucking set list was insane. I've been reading everyones posts the past few days and I do have to say a lot of you are fucking whiners because you only cared about how it sounded and if Maynard was off or if there were technical difficulties during Aenema and a few other songs. Get with the program they didn't call this tour a WARM UP TOUR for nothing. They are trying to get the bugs out of the setlist and are getting tighter every night they play. You all should feel fucking lucky as hell to have gone because I know so many people who would have taken your tickets and wouldn't have talked as much shit as all of you complainers. Feel lucky that you got the chance to see them in such an amazing venue because if not you're a greedy fucking Tool fan who doesn't deserve to see them. To anyone who said their performance wasn't good and they weren't moving you can suck a fat one because they were so energized it got me so fucking pumped up I can't move I was going so crazy so that was a total lie that they just stood around. Danny Carey fucking wailed on those drums as usual and hit every note like it was nothing and the same goes for Maynard,Justin and Adam as well. I must admitt the breakdown in Jambi with the talk box guitar solo after it was my favorite part of the whole night because it's so intense and in your face it tickles. I agree with you abulia for those so called "Tool" fans who managed to score tickets they totally do have a distorted view on reality and they didn't belong there if they are going to talk shit about the sound because it's Tool and they are there for your viewing and listening pleasure not for their own good they are there to please us hungry Tool fans and to make a living off of the amazing art they create but it's more so about the fans than anything else. I totally feel honored to have been able to go and I've always been that way the last 4 times before this show. I closed my eyes and got so lost in their set I felt like I was in another demension it was sick as hell. Well if anyone wants to chat about this show my aim screename is Tooladdict21 and my e-mail address is [email protected] so feel free to send me an e-mail or an instant message. To all worthy TOOL fans that felt honored to be at this show and didn't bitch about anything I bid you all a farewell and to all of you money grubbing assholes who talked shit about this show you can go sit on a fat cock until you die!!!!

Re: 2006/05/12 - Minneapolis, MN - Orpheum Theatre

As I sit listening to "Lost Keys" and "Rosetta Stoned," which were the opening songs of Friday's concert, I feel transported back to those moments in time. I can only compare it to "Third Eye" from Aenima...a total AKM in duration and complexity. And they opened the show with it. NICE WORK.

Reading reviews of the show, a lot of people are complaining about the mix-quality. From my spot in the last row of the Main Floor, it was awesome. But it was gheyness when the about 5 seconds went by during the climax of "Aenima" the PA cut out almost completely. The band kept going, and the the PA kicked back in for the very very end of the song. I told the guy next to me, someone needed to be bitch slapped for that one.

Other than that one flaw, the whole show was tremendous. Maynard had many amusing comments. I was moved to chuckle on numberous occasions. He talked about our tickets being soaked in acid and licking them...aliens escorting us to our cars...tinyapolis, playing these smaller concerts to "knock the dust off."

It was a miracle to get that ticket, and the show totally kicked my azz. Nothing at the show pizzed me off, which is nice. Some dude nearby was wasted, and occasionally yelled to Maynard. I laughed along with my neighbors when he first yelled "Maynard, YOU MOTHERFKER!!!!" I guess that'll have to take the place of my yelling "I nailed you."

Lateralus destroyed me...Sober kicked my azz... FortySix&2, and all the new stuff too...Jambi is fking incredible. It all rocked. After the first song, I told the dude next to me "Price of admission? Right there." He agreed.

Maynard's voice seemed to hold up well...better than I expected. But, not too much screaming. I did notice during Schism, he sang the lower voice during "I know the pieces fit" lines, rather than the high notes. Whether or not it was for voice-saving, or if it was for something different, I don't care. It was cool. And any other small "mistakes" that reviewers posted...I chalk them up as standard for a "live" performance. Who gives a fk if it's slightly different than the album? It's still ridiculously bad-azz.

Danny Carey makes me cry.

The visualizations were cool as always. But for this show, the band was much more visible than at others I've seen. An awesome experience.

Awesome show, great venue and with tickets at face-value. Priceless! I drove 725 miles from Louisville to see this show! With no regrets. Tool rocked the house. Sure, they had some technical difficulties. The P.A. system dropped-out on them twice and Adam broke a string or had eletronic problems with his Les Paul. But they played through like (pro's, musicians, uhhh humans maybe!), not fucking robots. This was a warm-up show to work the kinks out, you know "knock the dust off". They could have been assholes and practiced for a few weeks in some fucking warehouse in L.A. but they chose to expose themselves in small open venues, where the true sound is. To expect more seems greedy to me

All I can say is "Wow." The sound was not amazing, but it was not horrible as some have claimed. Third Tool show I have been to, and this one fucking rocked all the others. My friend Jason and I were simply amazed after the show. Kudos to Maynard and the whole band. This show only solidified the fact that Tool is the greatest band on earth.

Re: 2006/05/12 - Minneapolis, MN - Orpheum Theatre

ok so this was my first time seeing tool live. i must say danny carey is a fucking god. mjk was the shit and adam and justin really know how to rock the fuck out. i keep hearing people bitchin about the sound quality...and i have to say...i realize that the sound wasn't "top notch" but fuck it was a great show. what more can you expect from tool in the tiny orpheum? i was blown away the whole time. a concert of that caliber can afford to have a couple "oopses" i would have to agree and say that the show did go by way too fast, i would've loved to stay and hear them play every song they've written, but we got what we got and i was more than impressed. by the end of the show i was in a fuckin trance. this show was well worth the small fortune i spent on it!

They all made appearances out back after the show except for Maynard. Justin came over to a few of us and accepted our praise and signed a few things. To that lucky fucker that got his picture taken with Justin while he was holding that rose in his teeth - send me a copy after you clean off your spontaneous ejaculate.

Great show. Best fucking band in the world right now.

The friends that I went to the show with and myself have dubbed the 'look' that Maynard had on as "Brokeback Maynard".

No shirt, mohawk, cowboy hat, mirrored sunglasses, jeans, big belt buckle and cowboy boots...

Re: 2006/05/12 - Minneapolis, MN - Orpheum Theatre

Drove from Green Bay for the show. Sat next to a guy from Georgia whose wife bought him the ticket, airplane ticket, hotel, etc. for his birthday...wow!

Amazing show. Not sure if I will ever need to see Tool again after this one! Whoever commented on the comparison to Excel is right on: this show will never be topped.

Some interesting things:

LK/Rosetta is awesome and I am really starting to appreciate it (lyrics are amusing).

Wish the Stinkfist extended bridge was always played.

Jambi was cool. Adam is so stoic, it was funny watching him rip off a big talk-box solo and just stand there; kind of creepy. Justin really rocks out though.
Danny's got a new china for riding on (Pot and Jambi). Also looks like he might have two different sized bass drums?

Adam had guitar/effects pedal problems again. Not sure what's been going on, but heard the guitar tech had to play all of 46&2 at an earlier show (Kansas City?).

Pretty sure Lateralus is still my favorite song, and Vicarious is coming close to second. Didn't know that Justin plays the "solo" in Vicarious before "part vampire, part voyeur."

The ending of AEnema was kind of dissappointing (thought my hearing was going at first, until the people next to me starting looking confused). Was hoping that they'd play something else to make up for it. Oh well, it was during the very end when everyone is just ripping away on the triplets, so nothing too complex. At least the end note came through alright.

Maynard looked like he was having fun: doing crazy motions and kicks with rhythms in the songs.

Maynardisms: "for those of you who thought to lick your tickets, the LSD should be kicking in right about now." "Hello tiny apples" (as in Minneapolis...mini apples). "The new album is called...10,000 reason to play Minneapolis."

Tried to meet the guys after the show by waiting by their buses. Rumor was the guys took off in a separate van pretty quickly after the show. Was walking between the buses and the front when a rough looking homeless guy walked passed me and was peeing and walking at the same time...really "miss" big city life. Ha!

Trying to save cash so I didn't buy a poster ($25). Should have bought two and sold one on eBay. They look awesome!

Anything. And I just don't understand the same setlist from night to night. No surprises for me was a letdown. Godda say they did rock. And seeing the boys playing in such a small venue was very cool.
you don't understand because its your first show. they aren't playing simple time signatures. these are complex song to do live.

Also, you can tell a good band by how much they move, lots of movement=distraction from how shitty the music is...minimal movement=concentration.

Re: 2006/05/12 - Minneapolis, MN - Orpheum Theatre

sharpton, I have to respectfully disagree with you. Have you ever seen the band Dream Theater live? John Petrucci (guitar) is waaaay more animated than Adam, yet the music is far more technical. The show was fun, Adam's stage presence was boring, but his playing was great. Paul D Amour (sorry bout the spelling) was really fun to watch in the old days, he was crazy out there. Justin is less animated, but his playing is far superior. Some guy asked me to sit down and watch the show....couldn't believe it! I laughed and continued to stand (like everyone else there) and enjoy the fun set. Its funny how nobody else has mentioned the smaller PA disaster earlier in the set where everything went out for a quick second. It wasn't nearly as noticeable. Fun, fun show. Lot of herb smoke, I thank those responsible.
