I was totally disappointed after the first listen, but upon listening to it a million times, and tonight, for the first time stoned... this is my favorite Tool album by quite a bit.

The Pot is good... but right in two wings and jambi blow me away

Aenima is amazing... but I think the songs just don't have the same effect they once had.. probably due to me listening to it 1,000,000,00,000 times.

Tool has evolved so much. I hope this band never stops making music

it was actually just flame-bait, coupled with a juxtaposition of cheesy usage of storm sounds.

if you want to create the atmosphere of a storm, try doing it without playing clips of thunder and rain.

god 10,000 days doesn't do the lyrics justice.

I will admit that the first time I heard "The Pot" I was disgusted. I've been listening to the album to and from work and I have to say that it has grown on me even more.

so far. the whole album is pretty awesome, but the pot is definitley last on the list for me.

I listened to Jambi last night high and had an extreme TOOLGASM ...

it was so intense.. kinda hard to explain.. the music definitely moved me like woah

I have noticed several people not having the same response to songs as I am having and mentioning things sounding crowded, muddied, drowned out, etc.. I forget that I am wearing incredible headphones. Maybe it does sound like shit otherwise, I can easily pick out each instrument in each song, for the whole song, it is mixed very close though so I have to pay attention to what I want to hear. I listened to it on my stereo earlier and it didnt sound as clear. Perhaps this is the dividing line for some. Also, I dont know what the kbps is on the mp3s everyone has but Im sure the cd will be a sacd again, which will also help. Fingers crossed for a dvd-audio 5.1 mix version. This album rocks.

I wonder how many people that are saying this are of the "W00T HwaP WOOT WOOT TEH ROX0RZ!!!!11!!!" variety. I have to say that still one of the best things about seeing tool live (other than it being fucking TOOL!) is watching the frat boys in the pit trying to head bang to the timing changes. Looks like a dying fish flopping.

And btw, groggles: are you catching the rediculusly cool Pink Floyd vibe from Wings pt 2 ?

There is a Pink Floyd influence throughout the album man... are people complaining about this? PF is the only other band who compares with Tool

you obviously don't know who zeppelin is. there is just as much zep influence as PF, maybe not in this album but as a whole.

I edited the other post, I meant rediculus as in "holy shit this is fucking REDICULUSly awesome" Im picking it up on a lot of the tracks, but the first 4 min of pt 2 really reminds me of Shine on you crazy diamond(the first half), which is cool, since I think SOYCD is the single greatest piece of guitar work ever recorded. slow but vocal and emotional. I still dont get how a tool fan could not appreciate this cd, I may have posted this before but the similar guitar parts dont bother me. When Picasso went through his blue period it would have been easy to go "blue again, and more people? lame, he sold out" but that would have meant ignoring some great work by a great artist. Same is the case for this cd, sorry for sounding artsy, but it is different, just painted with some of the same colors, and if it fits the mood and the intent of the song then why not. I could see not liking it if I thought it was a rehash, but all of the riffs and fills feel right for the songs, not like they are just duplicated to fill time.

and i liked this better on 1st listen than i did on lateralus 1st listen

lateralus took about 3 months to really get into fully so i have very high hopes for this music in the weeks to come.

i think the key is finding parts in each track that you enjoy

Being a dedicated Tool fan, I do not put Tool up on a pedestal as you say. More like, I KNOW that Tool takes their art 120% serious, so every album will be amazing. It's that simple. I cannot put any Tool album above another. I like different albums at different times. RIght now, bored with Lateralus. ROcking Undertow and 10,000 Days. Aenima runs thin sometimes because of all the clutter. Next month, I might love the clutter.
