Could it be...

Didn't MJK have a middle name of Hubert or something else starting with an H during his life? Did he not get rid of this name legally and metaphorically? Could some of his flaws been connected to this name? Possibly something along the lines of doing away with the flaws and the name in one motion?

Re: Could it be...

His birth given name was James Herbert Keenan. The Maynard moniker started from a joke and his friends all started calling him Maynard, he eventually dropped the Herbert, adopted the Maynard and became Maynard James Keenan.

Re: Could it be...

Perhaps Mr Keenan's name 'Herbert' was connected to his past, as this may have been the name his mother gave him. Perhaps in an attempt to put his past behind him and embrace a newer version of him, he did away with the name. It's a stretch, but perhaps he saw a connection between Herbert and his shadow, and felt if would be a step towards a higher transmutation if he could do away with it. Does anyone follow my logic? If ppl are interested, I will continue.

Maybe because Maynard was the moniker name that he goes by and that would only make logical sense. <tap tap> Anybody home?

Re: Could it be...

I see where you're coming from but the lyrics don't match up at least in my opinion for it having to do with his middle name. However leading into 46&2 it would fit in a little. I don't think that is the case however. Days away his middle name is still touching him changing him and considerately killing him? Possibly but unlikely a middle name caused that much damage. I believe being called Jimmy instead of James probably does more damage, very few people ever even use their middle name.

Re: Could it be...

i was wacthing the Perfect Circle videos with the commentary turned on. Maynard talks about the maning of the songs. basically 13th Step is about people with some kind of addiction. i think when we are addicetd we are not ourselves. If H. has something to do with his past name, and something about drugs i.e. heroin, then the "snake behind me" is that person we become when addicted. This person and drug was something Maynard has changed and gotten away from. the transforamtion:

And the snake is drowned and
As I look in his eyes,
My fear begins to fade
Recalling all of those times.

I could have cried then.
I should have cried then.

And as the walls come down and
As I look in your eyes
My fear begins to fade
Recalling all of the times
I have died
And will die.
Its all right.
I dont mind.

I am too connected to you to
Slip away, to fade away.
Days away I still feel you
Touching me, changing me,

And considerately killing me.

a shedding of the skin to become clean and a new person emerges. i am not sure if maynard was ever into heroin, but the lyrics make it sound like he was...

You're a moron......if you really think that's what everybody was saying and what the song is about (his middle name).

You also have no fucking clue what you're talking about. A Perfect Circle lyrics were were written by Billy Howerdel, therefore there IS NO CONNECITON. Now you better hurry up and learn to swim.

I'm glad you gave me credit and put the "if" in there, because no that's not what I meant. I know this song has nothing to with his name, you already know what I think it's about. My point was that a middle name isn't much to lose if you're trying to reinvent your persona. The way Corksil was trying to connect the middle name.

Re: Could it be...

Quick to judge in here! i have been a Tool fan for a very long time and i can swim like no other! you cant be so naive as to think that Tool and A Perfect Circle have nothing in common. Maynard even said Tool is the male half and A perfect Circle is the Female half. So to get the full message one must meld the two...

The main theme of all the music is similar, Be Yourself no matter what trials and tribulations one must go through.

H. is excactly about living one life at some point in time and changing to another life.

By the way, it is Maynard talking in the Perfect Circle commentary about the vidoes...so there is a connection whether you like it or not, the connection, Maynard sings for both bands!

Hahahaha....you make me laugh. do you listen to A Perfect Circle? if so Mer De Noms has a song on it called Judith, hmm i wonder what that is about, oh right Maynards mom. And what about 10,000 Days Wings for Marie (Judith Marie). Instead of jumping to conclusions become more educated! So it look like there is a connection!

H. is about being so intimate with a drug or addiction, person etc. that no matter what you do its always going to be apart of you. It is similar to Pink Floyd's comfortably numb...

Well then perhaps they re-wrote 2 songs (Judith and 3 Libras) or changed the working titles...maybe a connection to Maynard but , ah whatever...maybe you do have a valid point.

I'm not wrong, the lyrics were originally written by Howerdel, prior to the band starting, when Maynard jumped on board he wrote some of his own songs and worked with Howerdel on revamping some of what he had already written, that is why they credit the both of them for lyrics you dumbfucks.

Yes, I can be an asshole. But "I'm considerately killing you".

First of all, I haven't seen any of my "TDN friends" as you may want to call it, mock me. Secondly, if they did....I will surely spend days on end crying over it (sarcasm intended), Third, I respect myself and that is entirely all I need. And last but not least, you're entirely right...I'm a stressed the fuck out pissed off take it out on anyone just to make it a point kind of dude for the last year. I caught my fiance of 7yrs fucking her ex-boyfriend, my 4yr old son no longer has a functional family that I wanted him to have because I never did, I've got court bullshit I'm dealing with, I got a DUI 2mos ago for making a stupid decision to drive home from a bar, I barely have enough money to pay my bills because I'm paying for everything on my own now, it's fucking snowing outside right now, my son got kicked out of daycare for beating up other kids...I could go on but I won't....the last fucking thing I could give a FUCK about is what people on TDN think of me. To the friends I know outside of posting threads on here I'm one of the most nicest, caring, thoughtful and insightful people they know. Whether you're on my bad side or good side is entirely your own perception, I have no beefs but I will fucking call you out when I know something to be incorrect for a fact or if it makes no logical fucking sense. I could run my mouth to you one day and congratulate you the next day for a well thought idea. Now as I've said before, if you want to fucking cry and complain about my attitude, either log off and call your momma or log back in to www'someonewhogivesafuck.com

A bit off track of the forum, but kind of sounds like Inner is having an H. moment. This song can fit to ones sense of despair.
