Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)

i can't say I have been to Warfield since Goldenvoice took over. Will be there in June for pj harvey. They were trying to get her at the Fox but couldn't swing it. Pusci would have been good there too....maybe in the Winter..didn't know BGCivic was being renovated.

The Warfield is a treasure. Since I moved to the BA last year I caught the Dandy Warhols and a few other shows and that place surpassed my expectations on all levels. I can't recall how it was before since it's been a long time I was there and that night was a bit foggy in my head :) but the upgrades seem to have taken well.

funny...i've actually taken to wearing exactly what you described...to any TOOL show...at least during the 10,000 Days tour...

...i figure that i should dress up for 'church', and have perplexed many a TOOL-shirt wearing fanatic with my attire.

i don't think i can do it for a festival, though, maybe a tux-tee or something. who knows? anyway, i AM looking forward to my 5-year old getting to see TOOL for the first time. in Denver, she gets in for free, and she's a BIG little fan!

I would think an official announcement would be coming pretty damn soon, either that or the Pre-sales for ToolArmy are a no go (At least for that show.)

Yes! For the life of me I can't understand why they didn't catch on in the USA. Great, great live band, the records are a little harder to penetrate (esp the last one) but I consider them one of the best American bands of the last 20 years.

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)

Blair made another post saying that he hadn't heard anything from management yet about dates, adding that he assumed no news was good news. I'm guessing he's spotted the SLC show like the rest of us have.

I'm trying to keep my patience, I'm sure piecing together a tour on Tool's scale isn't an easy task, but it's getting kind of ridiculous, you know? It's been a month and a half or so since news started popping up that they would be heading out this summer and we still have very limited info about when and where they'll be playing.

Oh well, like a post said earlier, at least we know that there is going to be a tour, it's much better than sitting here for another year or two without any news period.

Wow...I just have to give Tool a big round of applause for the greatest April Fool's joke of all time. I mean, it's quite an accomplishment, getting everyone's hopes up with vague references to a summer tour and dates TBA. Even Tool's management went all out, having their friends in the industry posting fake dates on sites, even going so far as to book them as headliners for a handful of festival dates just to make us think this whole thing was legit. I've got to hand it to you, Tool. Great job on the most elaborate, longest lasting April Fool's con-game of all time. Thousands of us fans are just so excited to not have any stand-alone dates 6 weeks after the annoucement. We love having to buy tickets at the last minute and blow twice as much money on airfare at the peak of summer travel season. Well done Tool. You've really excited your fan-base. </end sarcasm>

Yeah, I'm appreciative of the upcoming tour and all... but this is ridiculous. If tickets for this SLC date are going on sale THIS SATURDAY and there's still not a peep from the band's website, someone is screwing up big time. Oh, and aren't you glad you have a TA membership, what with all the advance news and presales?

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)

I'm stoked as fuck, but Energy Solutions Arena? Oh, man, that has to be the worst possible place for Tool to play. The sound system and acoustics are absolute shit. I vowed long ago to never bother seeing any show there...I'm sure I'll break that vow for Tool, but it is a terrible venue (one of the reasons the Jazz play well there is that the reverb from the crowd makes it insanely loud--not clear, mind you, just eardrum-splittingly loud...for concerts where you've got PAs and audiences, it sounds like you're trapped in an air terminal with jet engines constantly going off).

The bummer is we've got a great outdoor venue called the USANA Amphitheater that has no show that night...why would they book ESA? I'm almost dreading how bad it will sound....

Most touring bands (Tool included) carry their own sound system.
Unfortunately, that doesn't necessarily mean it will make a bad sounding building sound better.

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)

Hey guys, just registered to talk to some fellow Toolheads. I live in SLC, so naturally I'm pretty fucking excited about the date just announced.

They've got two prices listed, $25.50 and $49.50. Which one do you think is General Admission? Also, is GA going to be worth it if I take my lady with me? She's only 5'3'' and I don't want her to miss the whole show. One of the Tool shows I went to a few years back had rows of chairs set up in the GA section. I liked that. Anyone know if they're still doing that?

Thanks. Any guesses on an opener yet?

The $25.50 will be for upper bowl tickets; GA and lower bowl will be $49.50, plus approx. $15 for ticketmaster's outrageous service charges.

GA at the ESA will suck if you are more than ten feet away from the stage. If you are within ten feet of the stage, you will likely get crushed, but when you're conscious and on your feet, you can see pretty well. The sound in all of the seated sections sucks, but lower bowl should at least give your lady a view. Upper bowl is truly nosebleed, and the sound up there is so horrendous that it will be worth less than $25.

My wife is 5'6" and I had her with me at the GA when they played the E-Center for the first 10,000 days show and she couldn't see anything. For the second 10,000 days show, we were up on the side and she had a much better view.

Thanks for the clarification. I think I'll go with the lower bowl seats. The only thing that sucks about the seats is that the energy level just isn't as high as it is down in GA. It's not worth having her miss the whole show though. I wish they were playing at USANA. The ESA sucks.

Welcome to the mad-house! Some folks here are angry and others are just plain mad!

I guess I wont be booking a trip to see the show at SLC. Sounds like the venue is kind of bogus.

We were tossing around possible openers and Isis came up as a possibilty, I was thinking The Melvins but Junior didn't think so..

Hey maybe Puscifer!

anyway...welcome again and stick around.

As soon as someone figures out the whole schedule, can you let me know?

With the half-ass way in which this tour has been planned and promoted, I'm beginning to worry that we're in-store for possible half-ass performances as well. If there's no passion about getting this thing set up in the first-place, I can only imagine how that may reflect negatively on the band's performance. Hopefully that's not the case...
