Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
for the poster begging for them to play red rocks, while it's a cool place, didn't you read about what junior said about playing amphitheaters? you wouldn't get as good of an experience as you would in a enclosed venue (though the sound would probably be great).
I just hope they show us in the south east some love at least atlanta or new orleans.
Also, it's been said here and there that tool is working on new material, so there's a good chance we might get a peek at it on this tour.
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
I'm still stoked at the possibility of a laser show, in the fog, in golden gate park if they really are doing a bunch of festivals. Although lasers might interfere with SFO/OAK operations if they aren't aimed low enough.

ChiChis Christ!!! lol
Its funny how all of sudden this thread is buzzing like a pack of raging bees...facking Tool man!!! Those fackers have us by the balls!!!

Since yesterday, our group of people that will be attending the Boston area show is up to 28. Needless to say, we won't all be getting tickets together, but very few bands can generate that kind of excitement. That just friends and friends of friends. These shows are going to sell out fast.
If the show is at Mansfield, I hope it's on a Saturday. We're going to have a hell of a tailgate going.

I've seen tool in doors, and at red rocks. Red rocks blew away any of the other tool shows I've seen. As long as you'r in the first half there isn't a much better sounding venue, or a cooler place to see a band.

Amen, brutha! Red Rocks + King Crimson + LSD + TooL = Greatest event of my life! If I remember correctly, it was also the debut of Danny's new kit. Since then, I've made a point to see a show there nearly every year...even though I live 1000 miles away.
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
Got a text alert from a radio station here in town that announced the mile high festival two days ago. I got it smack in the middle of a ~20 hour casino session in vegas (i love spring break) and thought i was seeing things - I about wet myself (apparently i have the same problem, sonnyboy) Festival or not, I'll pay a completely overpriced ticket and sit through some garbage to see them. Ideally, they book another denver area show and revamp the setlist. I'd be in heaven.
Location: I expected the Rocky Mountains to be a little rockier than this.

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
I've seen Tool indoors all but 2 of the 12 times, so Red Rocks is a must see for me. I've only lived in Denver for 2 years so I haven't had the chance yet. That's why I'm begging. I know the indoor shows have better atmosphere, but I'm over it. Nothing is better than Red Rocks in the summer.
This Morning I saw a local news station interviewing the promoter (weird guy) and he said "We have Tool, and amazing rock band headlining the main stage from 10:15 to 10:30. Then Widespread Panic from 10:45 to 1:00am"
Obvious typo, but I'm wondering what he meant to say.
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
me too soreal i hope they come somewhere that doesnt break the bank but if it gets broken oh well its TOOL. oh ya have you been working on those roses for my girl let me know whats up or hit me up.. spiral out

He don't know, dude. No one does at this point with maybe the exception of their manager and agent. Only three dates that are at least semi-official are APW, Mile High, and Lolla.

I'm pretty sure even the agent and management don't know for sure quite yet. They probably have a rough idea, but that's about it. Once the ink dries Blair will know and probably pass it along.

Have they even notified you about those three dates junior? Or do they usually just give you a full list of dates once it's all set up?

No notification as of yet.
Honestly, on a lot of tours (not just Tool) I find out where we are going from Pollstar before I actually find out from the band.
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
AHHHHH the anticipation is killing me!! Also, my wife works for the Baltimore Orioles, so getting time off during baseball season requires a crap load of advanced notice.
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
I've been giving the set list issue some thought. At this point, I think it's much easier with Tool for me to come up with songs I don't want to see, instead of songs I do want to see. So here it is, my set list of songs I DON'T want Tool to perform in 2009
Now don't get me wrong, a few of the songs listed above comprise some of my favorite concert moments ever. But these songs were played in abundance on the 10,000 Days tour. I don't think I have much to worry about with Wings since I'm pretty sure the band are not thinking about doing it anymore (my personal top moment on the 10,000 Days tour was the debut of that song at Staple's Center). But beyond that recent opus, the other tunes I have mentioned on my list are just plain over-played. Especially Schism. An the hardest one for me to admit is Laterlaus but damn they played it at every show. Love the songs but enough already!

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
I'm not 100% sure of this, but pretty close....
To the best of my recollection, "Stinkfist" has been played at every show since "Aenima" came out (even at some shows before it came out). "Schism" and "Lateralus" have been played at every show since "Lateralus" came out. There might be some exceptions, but I can't remember them.
They've even played "Stinkfist" at nearly every soundcheck in the past 12+ years.

God damn playing two notes for 12 years would get boring. No wonder they do the breakdown!
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
I think Tool has played 46 and 2 every time I've seen them live. For some reason, it never got old though.
They definitely need to branch out more with their setlists. I was blown away when they played Flood on the 10k days tour.
Here's my $0.02
-They MUST play thirdeye, no doubt about that.
-Hush
-H
-Ticks and Leeches
-Vicarious
-Grudge
-Eulogy
-Jambi
-Something new?
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
My guess is that dates or the whole Tour will be announced tomorrow...I dont know that just came out of my ass.
I would real like to see Right In Two more as well as Reflection...both i think will set well in live festival atmosphere because of their epic feel.

Tool should play for at least 2hrs. Widespread Panic has over a two hour slot at the Mile High Festival and they will also be playing headlining gigs. The shows seemed to get shorter on 10K Days tour.

There were a handful of shows in 1998 (mostly the Ozzfest shows) where they didn't play "Stinkfist" and in a few of the October 2001 "Lateralus" shows "Stinkfist" was replaced with "Sober" and occasionally "Undertow".
"Lateralus" was not played on one of the summer 2001 Europe festival shows...June 1 maybe? I'd have to check.
"Schism" was not played on one of the 2006 European shows as well. In both cases of "Lateralus" and "Schism" not being played it looked like it may have been do to time constraints. A good source for setlist info is collectiveunconscious.org.
And yes, to answer the question right off the bat: I am indeed obsessive compulsive.

Never know. So far the dates are kind of all over the place. Looks like weekends are festival shows, so they'll probably be some TOOL-only shows in the area during the week.

July 18 Denver
Aug 1 New Jersey
Aug 8 Chicago
Usually when a band signs on for festival dates, they are not allowed to play other shows in the area as part of the contract. Radiohead played Lolla and All Points last year, and those were the only dates from them in NYC/Jersey and Chicago.
I guess I can assume a Mansfield date at the end of July or early August. 7/30 and 8/2 are open dates. C'mon 8/2. At least that's on a Sunday.
