Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
As a fan, I am not very fond of festivals. But I do make an exception for Coachella. That festival is very well produced overall.
Street Scene was what did me in for festivals for the most part. God damn that one sucked. Good line up the year I went but the place (a parking lot) was just brutal, not to mention people getting crushed during Tool's set.

I SWEAR TO @$#@^#& GOD THEY BETTER NOT BE TOURING WHILE I'M IN IRELAND FOR A MONTH>!@!#$!@%@# I will buy a ticket to fly from there to here for the day or two if they are. I will not miss the small chance I get to see the grudge revisited as a soft, less vocally challenging song for the aging rockstar.
Oh, and if you guys caught it in the Revolver special, I think Wings is toast in a live setting. Free's up a lotta sppppppaaaaaaaceeeee.

It is posted on the toolband site that there will be a summer tour. This shit is too close to April 1 for my liking. I will be skeptical pending further news.

Anyway.....
As far as I know, that technology still isn't ready for the real world. I haven't been in touch with the developers, but I think if it was ready we would have seen it by now somewhere else, so there is still a chance it will make it's way into a future Tool tour.
I don't know exactly what we are going to do for the summer shows. I'm still waiting to find out what venues they'll be in.
Yeah, I tried using the search engine too. It kinda blows. Thanks for taking the time to locate your old post.
I'm excited to see your work again. I'm always greatly impressed.

This is lame. That festival just has the worst music, unless they do a complete turnaround from last year, which won't happen. I really hope this summer "Tour" doesn't turn out to be ALL festivals, I'd love to see them do a headlining show this summer, with a full set.
I was REALLY hoping Tool would be playing at Red Rocks. aahhhh well, maybe next time.
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
I agree that festivals are extremely unpleasant. Who wants to sit through (and pay for) a bunch of mediocre bands just to hear a shortened Tool set? (as if the recent Tool-only shows haven't been short enough as is!) Lines are always too long and the facilities (food, bathrooms, etc.) are woefully inadequate. The few festivals I have been to always felt like a shameless money grab on the part of the promoters.
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
This is good, I'm leaving the 15th, Denver is the 18th, and that rumor on the NJ show is July 30th-ish. West coast earlier please please please please!
Oh shit. I just realized Outside Lands! That would be sick as $@%!

Agreed West Coast earlier.. Maybe late June or early July for Tool in Seattle/Tacoma area. The Gorge would be perfect.

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
Fucking... AWESOME! Read the news, shat my pants. Even though I'm broke as fuck, and still technically paying for the last few times I saw them, among other things, I'm willing to travel hundreds of miles to see them. Hopefully they come to western Canada. Bonnaroo (again) would work too, but seems a bit unlikely. Bonnaroo was mighty chill last time, unlike many of the "Lolla" stories I've heard. The only aspect of Bonnaroo's set that was shortened was the lack of the "full Flood intro", an "alien intermission" and an extended Stinkfist. However, the band could have played a good hour or more if they wanted. (For instance, Pearl Jam played for close to three hours last year, vs. the 80-90 minutes Tool played for. However, other festivals have more restrictions that way.
No matter the setlist, it's going to be awesome. I'm curious to see what new stage concept/layout will be put into effect. I'm also looking forward to seeing junior's awesome work. All in all I'm just psyched to hear the band again though.

Yeah, last year was fun. I just hope this year [if there is to be another Outside Lands] is organized a bit better, allowing for more times for the bands to set up, and for attendees to get from one show to the next, rather than that five-minutes-prior-to-opener bullshit.

I'm just glad I bribed a security guard $5 to hop a fence for Primus. So worth it. It did seem to need to be better organized though, i think they learned a lot from the first night because half of the city hopped the fence haha A LOT more cops the next day.
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
I wouldn't worry too much about it being ALL festivals. Even though this is expected to be fairly short (I predict 3-4 weeks of shows. I could be wrong), there aren't enough festivals to fill that timeframe. I also wouldn't expect any dates much earlier than that Mile High fest on the 18th of July.

Thanks for that junior. It would seem likely the Pearl would be in there somewhere. And probably Nokia again. In fact, two nights at each would easily sell out. Honestly, they should have done two nights at Nokia last tour but I guess there were scheduling conflicts.

You should plead with them to play Red Rocks while in Denver. PLEASE!! PLEAAAAASE!!!
Seriously though, Mile High festival? horrible horrible decision. Tool fans here are pissed that they're playing with lame bands and lame band fans are pissed Tool is playing.
I wish I understood the decision to do a festival like this. Is it cheaper? Do they make more $$?
Anyway, annoying or not, I'm still gonna (reluctantly, take that!) spend the $90 for one day of this horrible festival to see one band. Can't wait to see your work too. I wish I woulda read your earlier post before seeing the Coachella show. The one about festivals and all the pain in the ass things you have to put up with. It will be interesting to see/hear the difference knowing how much restriction is put on a festival show.

Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
If we are only looking at a month or so of dates, it would be safe to assume that it will be a stripped down production, like perhaps the warm-up tour in theaters for 10K Days.
I think the set will be similar to 10K Days tour, with maybe Third Eye in the Wings slot and the addition of H and Parabola.

That'd be sweet if they kicked the tour off at the Pearl again.
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
Just listened to MJK's interview on Lex & Terry. A lotta wine talk, but a caller asked when TOOL was coming to play in Texas again, and Maynard said "late June, early July"
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
Chunga, You heard maybe a show @ Comcast Center in Mansfield? Hear anything about Verizon Wireless in Manchester, NH or CCCC in Portland, ME? They should play in all of New England, 'cept idk of a venue in Vermont, Higher Ground seems a little small. . . PLEASE LOT'S O' EAST COATS SHOWS!!!!!
Re: General Tool tour questions / discussion (merged)
Oh. . . So this could maybe be like the 2001/2006 warm up tours, with some festival thrown in?? So how about the new House Of Blues, Boston? or The Orpheum Theater? or the 1050 max. capacity Showcase Live at Patriot Place conveniently in my backyard??

No, I only heard from a friend that they were playing Mansfield. They have a rabid enough fanbase here to justify playing some other spots. I swear, they are played more than Zeppelin on local radio in Boston. I will be at every show from ME to CT.
If Mansfield turns out to be true, I would guess it will be a shed tour with some festival dates. Maybe the Meadows shed in Hartford or Saratoga Springs could be a possibility.
