Speeded up Schism was awesome. Sound was fucking incredible. Maynard exiting early and opposite band was odd. Setlist was perfect.
Every goddamn time the fucking bring it.
At $30, the poster is a great buy. Best concert poster you will ever get.
C u next tues. Mohegan Sun.

Great show. Sounded amazing. Pushit was unbelieveable. Danny broke a drumhead after Hooker and maynard said "even at 50 he's breaking drumheads...it's because of all that cocaine use".

He said "Even at 50 he's breaking drumheads. It's because of all that cocaine and booze."

My friend thought it was "because of all that alcohol and cocaine use," but he's wrong.

So...

Really liked the show. Don't have too many bad things to say, but one thing I will say is that I wish it was a little louder. I don't know too much (or actually, anything) about the science of sound, but if it were, say, 115db, I wish it had been closer to 125db-130db. I don't like when I can hear myself singing over the band, it ruins the experience because I can't sing.

I've only seen Tool live in the post-10K Days era and I think a good 7 or so songs were played at every show I've been to. It was nice to see that this wasn't so much of a 10K Days tour. I would like to hear some stuff from Opiate or Undertow, but I feel like those albums are not what the Tool of the post-Aenima era represent, so I'll let go of my wants. It was nice to see a couple new songs. I don't think Hooker with a Penis makes for a good opener. I kind of like an anticipatory build up before the band comes in full swing (I felt the same way about them opening with Jambi a few years back). Stinkfist has been the best so far as an opener, and though I didn't get to see it, due to me not living on the West Coast, I assume that Third Eye was a brilliant opener.

Besides the lack of loudness, I think the band really changes tempo a lot in the middle of songs. Sometimes I can say "This part must be a little rough to play at the same pace as the section before this," and understand, but other times it seemed a little odd.

It was pretty cool to see them switch up some of their songs and add little musical breaks for people who have seen Stinkfist or Schism at 100% of the shows that they play.

Also, I've been reading a lot of the reviews, and I'm not sure if it's just because of where I was sitting, or maybe the venue, but I think the sound was absolutely perfect. I was able to hear each instrument at the level it should be.

Insert appreciation for the visuals here: _______________________________________
(I really don't know how to explain what the visuals can add-on to the music.)

Lastly, one song encore. I'm not angry that we didn't hear The Pot. I just expected more than one track. And Aenema is what, just shy of 7 minutes?

The show was amazing, the sound was amazing, the guys are absolute musical geniuses. But one thing we all need to agree on is that Justin needs to grow his hair back out.

Maynardisms:
-Hello Boston (after HWaP)
-Even at 50 the guy still breaks his drum head. It's because of all that cocaine and booze. (After HWaP)
-So there you go (before Aenema)

......spiral out.

Danny wearing a Kobe Jersey in Enemy territory.Show was Great Tight as usual. The intro of Schism could be some new music on the next CD.Seen them do that with the intro of( Wings for Marie) before Lateralus on the Lateralus fall 2002 tour.Really liked the Bigger screen & screens on top opposed to last few productions, when they where on the bottom lined up behind MJK ,Danny & Justin.Great to hear HOOKER & TICKS as well.Be there Tues @ the SUN for the best Pizza on the Planet.A few months shy of 10 years since last time they played in this building.
I wonder if the was the Magic of the Cup Champs.

I was hoping for a good show tonight, but was not expecting to have my mind blown based on the last two times I saw them. Holy shit did they remind me how good they can be live! I was lucky enough to be in FloorA and had perfect sound, and sightlines to every guy in the band. This was easily the best I've seen them since '02, hell one of the best ever, they kicked my ass. Despite the effects Maynard uses in alot of the songs, they still sounded great from where I was sitting.

And fuck me, Maynard actually saluted the crowd after the show! I bitched about him walking right off before, and yes, it meant alot to me for him to acknowledge us!

The band was God damn electric tonight, I'm thinking about a roadtrip to Mohegan on Tuesday!

This show was absolutely incredible. Would have loved to hear The Pot or Parabola at the end like some of the other shows, but hopefully I see it on Tuesday at the Mohegan. The sound in the garden was incredible, had read some previous reviews saying that the sound was off in some venues. NOT IN BOSTON! If anything, I wish it was a little louder, didn't like hearing myself and the others around me singing. But hey, no big deal. Sat in section 2, row 8. Pretty good seats. Show was just incredible, don't have much more to say than that. Visuals were insane, all the guys were really into it. Just another amazing experience..Back at it on Tuesday for my 8th TOOL show :)

A raw & beautiful performance. My first opportunity to catch Tool perform live and they did not disappoint. Ticks & Leeches & Push it were off the hook, I believe Danny got to shine on 1 of these. The performance, the imagery, the atmosphere was kick ass! We(Boston)rock, as does Tool!
We also got to here some new intrumental material by way of an intro to Schism.

Loge3 row 14

The visuals were amazing. The sound at the Garden was excellent. I agree that it could have been a bit louder, but I wonder if the quality would have suffered at a higher volume.

I thought Maynard seemed to be pretty lively and having fun while the entire band as a whole was on point tonight, very tight. IMO, the Boston crowd was very good as well. I am a little disappointed that we didn't get Parabola, but it was a great show nonetheless.

Highlights for me: Hooker, Stinkfist, Pushit, Forty Six & 2 and Lateralus.

Damnit I'm sorry Maynard. The Pot is a pretty awesome song, I'm sorry I dissed it. I really would have liked to have seen a video for it, I just think a lot of people like it for the wrong reasons (like misunderstanding the lyrics). I like Parabola better, but I'd rather hear The Pot (or Sober) rather than no song. I take it back! I'm sorry!! Please Forgive me!! I hope they add back that song to the setlist before the end of the tour, I think it would be pretty badass to hear how it sounds now with a lower, darker sound. From now on I'll keep my mouth shut - I love this band and every song they put out :)

Tool played amazing tonight! I've only seen them twice, once being Epicenter 09 in California, but I still wish they would mix up the setlist a bit. I'd love to see them play Heroin, Opiate, Prison Sex and other older songs. The highlight of the show for me was probably Lateralus or Aenema. As far as Maynard's "liveliness" goes, I can't really comment. The only other time I've seen tool perform was when he had just injured his leg and was on pain killers, and he was pretty talkative. I don't know what his typical crowd involvement is but the shows I've been to it was fine. The overall sound quality of the show was great in my opinion and I was back in Loge 5, Row 13. The only thing I wish had been better was the loudness of the vocals. It felt like at times the instruments were drowning Maynard out and I could hear people drunkenly singing (badly) occasionally. The visuals were incredible, definitely better then when I saw them in 2009 (though that was an outdoor show).
I can't wait for the next album to come out and see them next time they tour. Being 14 or 15 when I got into tool and being 18 now I really haven't had many opportunities to see them perform so I hope they continue touring for a decent amount of time. Tool will always be my favorite band and it was great being able to see them again.

-Sara

PS. No idea who the opener was tonight but they were terrible, sorry if anyone disagrees with that but I thought tool could have had a better opener than "yaab" or whoever the hell they were.

Also I forgot to mention,MJk with a comical maneuver, when he was swinging his police baton before the lead in the pot.

Great performance, my first Tool show!

Was up in lower 313, seemed a lot of the time the crowd was drowning out Maynard. Probably in part to where I was sitting, in the back corner on the side, so to the right of me was the whole back wall of people. I have to say it was kind of magical to hear like 10,000(?) people singing along with feeling to the songs that I love. Heh, was a nice sharing moment. ;) I think Maynard appreciated it too, he looked to be enjoying himself. He didn't seem to "sneak" offstage like other people say he has at other shows. He went front stage and was pointing/acknowledging every section of the crowd. Then he started heading out the back of the stage, stopped came back and fist-bumbed Danny, then exited to the left (they were coming on/off the right all night). I think I saw him come back on stage right after the rest of the band left and head over to the right side, but it might have been a tech.

Oh, an no drum battle either? First night of Yab instead of Intronaught, they couldn't come up for it? Danny did a solo during Lateralus and Maynard said "Danny Carey" after it. No the Pot either, like others have said. :(

Shout out to the wasted guy in the chi phi shirt next to us, who face planted into the row in front of us dominoing the next couple people over into the next couple rows, after Jambi. Didn't look like anyone really got hurt and suprisingly no one got pissed.

Another Maynardism:
He did the "Some of these songs are pretty old. We haven't sung some of these songs, ...since some of you were sperm. (then he said something else that I missed because I was repeating what he said to someone else). Think that was right before Ticks or Pushit. Anyone catch what he said at the end?

I'll be at Mohegan Sun on Tuesday. Hoping since it's a smaller venue I'll have better seats and will hear Maynard better over the crowd.

Show was fucking amazing... no less epic than the show I saw over 5 years ago at the mullins center!! I agree wish it was a little louder, and would everyone do a huge favor and PUT THEIR FUCKING CELL PHONES AWAY!!! Literally the entire row in front of me was holding up their cells recording over half the show... how can you enjoy the music like that...

Looking forward to seeing them at Mohegan Sun. I have heard sound there isn't that great... but I do have better seats than the ones I had at TD Bank North.

Maynard did not talk much at all last night... kind of missed it. One of my favorite things at his APC concert that I went to a few months back is how he just candidly talked for a bit. And I know their merch is always over priced, but 50 bucks for a t-shirt...come on...

Actually "Cold & Ugly" w/the Rush "Passage to Bangkok" intro. Maybe you're thinking of Fitchburg '97.

This was a great show. I was expecting the sound to suck from reviews of concerts at the TD Garden, but it did not. The setlist was amazing.

Anybody catch the good news during the intermission?

May 1st or May 2nd "Get Ready" - This can only mean the next album!!! 6 years after 10,000 days.

See you in Atlanta!

Anyone catch the lyric changes to Hooker?
Could tell it wasn't Beastie Tee, but couldn't make out what he said.

It may have been "a dope 'Slipknot' Tee," but I am not positive.

That's correct.

So here's my review: I haven't seen Tool since 1998 and figured it was about damn time. I have bad hearing so large scale concerts are something a do not frequent at all but I found a balcony ticket on Ticketmaster saturday morning so I said what the hell.

#1. Sound-I thought at first it was just my seat location (328 side of stage) that caused the low volume, but apparently it was the entire arena. For me I loved it because I didn't even need earplugs which is amazing. It was a tad difficult to hear Maynard at times, but wow Tool still perfects their sound. Every other soundguy from a major rock tour should come get a lesson from Tool.
#2. Venue-TD Garden's security was a little rough getting in as they shut down half the entrances but the line moved fast and pat-down was friend. Once the show started I only saw them a few times stopping people from video taping. Nobody got yelled at for taking a picture with their Iphone. What really pissed me off is they shut off beer service two songs into tool! The crowd was NOT raucous in anyway, and by 10pm you couldn't even get a soda or hot dog. TD Garden acted like they didn't even want this concert to occur.
#3. Crowd-Sadly, very dead. When they started HWAP it was literally like only half the audience knew that song. Overall our crowd was pretty quiet. Most fans outside and in the bars before the show were between 25-40, and some CLEARLY forgot the PCU rule of NOT wearing the band T-shirt OF THE BAND YOUR GOING TO SEE. Good god!
#4. Visuals-I guess I had such high expectations I was a little disappointed, but they really use the lasers well. From my vantage point I could see Danny has a drum tech (wearing a white lab coat!) behind him at all times.
#5. Setlist-This REALLY pissed me off. Now of course I knew what I was getting into, but your a band with 4 albums and 1 EP and you only play for 1 hour, 32 minutes is just ridiculous. I was IRATE when they returned for the encore and heard anema start. Right there I knew we got screwed out of a song. And it CERTAINLY wasn't due to time restraints as TD garden allows shows to go to 11:30pm and they ended at 10:47pm. There's no excuse here, they should play 2 hours and add 2-3 more songs onto the setlist. Would it absolutely kill them to play a couple of 3 minute songs off of Opiate or Undertow?

Overall, I was OK with this show but the short playtime and setlist makes me feel like their just mailing all of it in for the money.

Overall, I was OK with this show but the short playtime and setlist makes me feel like their just mailing all of it in for the money.
totally agree. crowd sucked, I wanted to stand but no one else did where I was so I did not want to block anyones view and just sat down. Then some dude tripping balls in front of me ruined the show and was falling all over people. Security just kept talking to him cuz security was a bunch of pussies. Other than that the sound was actually pretty good for once. Every song was superb but it was the same show I have seen 5 other times. A short setlist in Boston. Pathetic. Stinkfist again, schism again, 46&2 again. There is no excuse for making us listen to 10 min of sound then play lateralus and aenema. Next time they come around I don't think I'm going to go.

Was that what popped up on the screen? I saw some words appear, but the overhanging speakers were in my way.

I've been a Tool fan for 20 years and love everything Maynard touches. However, last night was my first time to see them live. The music was outstanding and I thoroughly enjoyed the setlist. I have to say though that this was one of, if not the most boring concerts that I have ever seen. I had heard that Maynard didn't like the spotlight but to perform the entire show in the shadows on the back of the stage was disappointing. The rest of the band rarely played in the spotlight. They could have easily been pretending to play to pre-recorded material. I still love Tool but I would never pay to see another performance. I expect to see the band and the singer "PERFORM" when I pay $100 to see them live. Last night was an incredible acoustical experience but no different that listening to a really nice stereo. Let me know if they ever decide to put on a show.

I didn't see that message during intermission. They showed what looked like somebody playing Asteroid on the stage screen saying, player 1 get ready then player 2 get ready. I was on the floor section F. Great Fucking show!

Maynard said "get ready" when returning for the encore referencing the start of Aenema. The screen showed the same thing with asteroids flying around so it was the promo video start for the song.

Few more notes:
#1 Ions was played as they changed guitars for Stinkfist.
#2 Maynard enters and exits the stage from the back while the other guys come up the ramp.
#3 A friend of mine, a security supervisor at show called me today and told me Tool was anxious to hit the road as they are playing NJ tonight, about a 5 hour drive from Boston. That's still no excuse to skip either Parabola or The Pot. He also informed me TD garden security (not his company, which is a private separate entity which does backstage security) was concerned about the crowd tonight being rowdy--which turned out to be totally untrue. They were getting legit reports the bars around the area were packed which they were I can report. However the crowd was very tame.
#4 There was a few illegal bootleg shirts being sold outside, but I thought they were pretty ugly. All were reminiscent of 10,000 days or Lateralus imagery.

I was in 309.. nosebleeds but at least center... Our entire section stood the entire time!! I had to leave to go to the bathroom during the show (sucks to have a small bladder) and accidently ended up in the wrong section, and every person was sitting... no idea how you could sit through such an amazing show
