Maynard (or at least someone from the band) said in an interview that 10KD 1&2 songs is the type of stuff that they want to make now or that they've wanted to make in the past but haven't been able to due to record label issues.
Basically, I know this because my friend's uncle who knows a guy who was at West Point with Maynard knows this.

I don't recall anything along that notion... other than Maynard saying he would never write lyrics as personal as Wings again. That doesn't say much about the compositional direction however.

There may be a sneak peek of what they've been working on in the Captain America Trailer, or Blair is lying. I didn't hear anything that sounded like Old Tool, but a riff that could possibly be written by Adam.

I hear the new album is called Refractionoid. Here's the track list
1. The Absence of Light (8:52)
2. Shadow (1.27)
3. Torch (9.17)
4. Lunar (7.10)
5. Reflection (1.56)
6. Refraction (4.20)
7. Refractionoid (8.11)
8. Void (5.31)
9. Dearth of Day (2.01)
10. Transparent (9.15)
11. Translucent (18.05)
12. Opaque (2.10)
Too soon?

While academically and as a fan I have an interest in "what this song is about," I ultimately don't care as a human being exactly what the songwriter was thinking when he wrote it. I had no problems internalizing the messages of Vicarious or Rosetta Stoned for my life and they were just as cathartic as the other music Tool produced. With a track like 10k days where we've heard the basic outline of the story on toolband or whatever, and the admittedly less esoteric lyrics on all the tracks, I can see how a person would more easily view the album as James Keenan talking about specific persons, incidents, and his own opinions. That, however, is not my relationship to the album and I think a lot is lost if one doesn't at least try to come at 10k Days with the same sense of vulnerability and personal sacredness as some of the other stuff.

I'm not hearing it, unless the motif of the score is based off a core riff of some Tool song, but i can't place it.
Not that I care.

What the current status is. What the rumours are. Do my work for me in other words.
Is it indeed called Teleincision?

I call shenanigans on the Captain America trailer. That plodding two note repetitive bass line with a shit ton of electronic stuff in the background is NOT TOOL. Secondly, both APC and Puscifer songs have been licensed to movies, but NO TOOL MUSIC HAS EVER BEEN SOLD FOR COMMERCIALS/MOVIES. Why would they cheapen the music now? Tool is sacred to all four members. Led Zeppelin should have stuck to their guns and never licensed their music, but no they had to sell "Rock N Roll" for some fucking truck commercial after 40 years of not selling out. I hope Tool never appears in a movie. I think Blair was making a joke about how there is a kinda Toolish riff in the trailer, but seriously guys. With December 2012 so close by, do you really expect a Tool album this year? My prediction: APC tour, Puscifer tour w/ possible ep, and lots of studio time with Tool, maybe some studio time with APC too. Once the new Tool album comes out in 2012, expect a massive ongoing monster of a world tour - they always do a major tour when a new album launches, they will not promote an APC album at the same time.

|
I hope you're right. Mainly about the shenanigans.
Not really concerned when any new material gets released by any group at this point. These days time seems to fly by so it will be out before my patience wears thin. Worlds going to end soon anyways. Not a big fucking deal really.

I didn't think the trailer in question had actually been released yet...
Also, I'm not sure anyone is expecting a Tool album to be out this year any more.

Brief summary:
*Adam, Justin and Danny have been writing full time since March.
*In an interview in February Danny claimed that 4 songs were written.
*I've been told by my sources that there hasn't been any recordings, but some people have been lucky enough to have heard some of the work in progress.
*No idea how much involvement Maynard has had to this point.
*I expect they will hit the studio not too long after the APC tour finishes.
*Blair's prediction of a May 2012 release probably isn't far off the mark.

Stinkfist is not about butt sex either, its about the desensitization of society.
