I agree man. Ive listened to both and i think for me at least what really makes tool's more appealing is Maynard's vocals. Ever since i got salival ive been listening to this track non stop

True. Tool's version seems much darker. mabey its the way maynards changed around the lyrics some but i think thats its more just the sound as an overall piece

I personally like Zep's version better man. Maynard's groaning gets a little tedious after a while and i think Plant's voice distortion was WAY cooler. TOOL's is very good nonetheless, i really dig it, but i like the original better man.
Thinking about it, i think this could be one of the greatest choices for a cover song that fits the mood of the band covering it ive ever heard. Would love to hear TOOL cover Pink Floyd's Echoes from the Meddle album. If you've never heard it, go out right now and get that cd or vinyl or whatever...jus get it. Yea..that would be a cool cover song if done preoperly.

I reallly hope that you do smell Salival II. I think that it would be incredible if all of the original members of zeppelin were still around today and they covered lateralus. I think that i would be able to die happy the second after i heard that.

Keep that thought my friend, it's a good suggestion but i'm afraid it's never gonna happen............
About smelling Salival II; i hope i'm smelling a live-DVD!
I agree that they are two different songs, very different from one another but the music is not necessarily different. Many of the same sounds are replicated and added onto in Tool's version, and honestly that is more appealing to me, but i really do like all of the effects used in zeppelins version. Tool's version sounds a lot more metal-like (go figure)

I do agree that echoes should not be replicated by Tool. Tool is a great band but as ludovico said they are on different levels. Having just said that let me contradict myself by saying i think that it would be cool to hear them cover Brain Damage/Eclipse, those songs are incredible and it would be cool to hear Tool do them.

Re: Favorite
They wouldnt ruin the saong because as both of yall said they would more than likely transform it into a completely different song with the same title.

Ya i thought that Brain Damage and Eclipse would be interesting to hear. Those are two of my fav's by them, but then again i dont know if i would want tool to make their own version. It would be interesting though....

I like the idea of Tool doing a Floyd song seeing that they are my favorite band but there are only a few songs that i think would fit
Sorrow
Free Four
Sheep
Empty Spaces (from the movie not the album)
and it would be funny to hear anyone re do Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict
