Here are 2 bass riffs i made, i have been playing for 2 years and these are probably the first two little riffs i have made and recorded. Tell me what you think, the recording isnt the greatest so i apologize in advance...

Bass Riffs i made...

Not too shabby... but you'd stay out of the D minor trap if you knew whats good for ya. Down the road it gets to be a real pain in the ass when you can only write in one key. Other than that, and the fact that some of the progressions in the first one are a bit too close to 46&2, its pretty good. I can see them developing into something exceptional; you just need to work on 'em a little.
All in all, good job.

Other than that, and the fact that some of the progressions in the first one are a bit too close to 46&2, its pretty good. I can see them developing into something exceptional; you just need to work on 'em a little.

thanks for the comments guys, dam i wish i knew music theory because i wouldn't have a clue by what you mean about the D minor trap :), anyhow i'll upload a finished version one day...

Adam Kadmon's The Bass Grimoire (complete book of scales)
It's got a lot of easy-to-comprehend theory, and every scale known to man, in every key.
Take some lessons, that's what pointed me in the right direction.
And finally, if you don't already know them, learn notes. Learn them like the back of your hand.

Good stuff. I like how you can play chords (or at least harmony) without it sounding muddy and crappy, most bass players I know can't pull that off.
