The Deterior Thread

Most of you probably don't know that I've been writing some songs for the past year or so. I've finally gotten to the point where I'm starting the recording process, and I thought I'd share some of the results so far.

As of right now I have 2 "done" and I've uploaded the first for you to listen to. Feedback is appreciated (comments/questions, but not so much suggestions), though I'm not going to rerecord or write any more. Screw that.

Some notes before I'm bitched at too badly:
1) I suck at this whole recording thing, and I don't understand most of Cubase yet.
2) This is a rough version still, i.e. nothing's properly mixed, and most of it still needs aligned.
3) I like bass.
4) There aren't any vocals yet; there probably will be eventually.

You know what's pretty damn funny? Yesterday before this thread was created I went to your purevolume and wondered how your ep was coming along.

Yesterday I nearly finished the second one as well; that will get posted tomorrow or maybe the day after.

At first I was iffy, but your progression really took off. Obviously a large Cult of Luna and early ISIS influence in my opinion. A good vocalist would really kill shit on this track.

Ideas for the track that my ears picked up:

- Some kind of synth wind swooshing during the beginning. That line isn't bad, but it needs something to fill in the cracks.

- I think the riff that comes in @ 2:21 would sound so much more epic if it were delayed.

Otherwise, keep writing. This shit is solid. And did I notice a riff in 9 somewhere in there?

Yeah, the intro is in 9/8...but the drums are doing 4.5/4, whoa.

Plus, I really hear some tom laden tribally drumming in my head, but obviously that'd be really hard given that those drums sound programmed.

Don't get me wrong. They sound pretty damn good.

Yeah, it took me forever to find good samples. They're mixed poorly here though, e.g. the snare is way too loud.

Oh, and another suggestion. (I know it isn't properly mixed yet, but). The bassline @ 58 secs is really effing loud.

upon listening. decent stuff, with some sligthly more proffesional production/mixing could be better than decent, but i guess theres not really much us diy musos can do about that

thanks. I agree. also I'm really awful at singing properly. never really practiced.

same, my throat is just really weak and incable of making noises that dont require me singing perfectly in tune to sound good. i can nail one note but i forget which one. i need to learn how to use auto tuner correctionering software.

you have no idea how many times i had to do pitch shifting in cubase when doing vocals. it was crazy.

i think the last two (the ones you haven't listened to) are more popular among the last.fm crowd or something. nobody seems to like what i leave.
