That seems to be the biggest limiting factor.
Another thing, you should all record your music in a lossless
format if it's gonna be re-mixed/modified any number of times.
I prefer FLAC the most, but if you're not sure what I'm talking
about, just try recording/saving your files as .wav files, then
worry about the compression end of things later.

Yeah that's another server/bandwith issue, these are going to have to be wav files. I can also do some engineering, mixing, producing, mastering, ect. I engineered those songs I posted, and I'm going to school for audio production.

I'd be up for it.I wanted to do this a logn time ago and had asked,a few said yes. Then I made about 6-7 5 min. songs of just me programming the drums but then chickened out on posting them.I'd be willing but I'm not going to put any of my best stuff up.I guess I could mess around with them, like cahnge the speed and drum set, take parts out etc etc,so they would sound different.I'm not real computer sauvy so someone would have to give me step by step nstructions on how to get them on my computer,or actually this computer, which is at my parents house, not mine.Right now I'm working on learning how to [rogram some Meshuggah,Fantomas type stuff, although I can do any style really. Also any keyboard synth stuff, also I just got into curcuit bending and have a few toys I've bent if anyone wants to go in that direction.I guess just keep this thread going or convince a mod to sticky it somewhere if ya'll ever get the computer/server stuff worked out,I'm lost in that department.

I think this idea is grand enough for a sticky, but I think it should be moved to creativity. Done.
Ok to actually get this started we first need web space where we can all upload our ideas. The basic idea of this is that you download something someone has posted (a guitar riff, drum beat, ect) and add your own part to it and upload it back under a different name. Then someone else can download it and add another part, ect.

Well we need to start somewhere so here are a few of the things I had floating around on my hard drive.
Everything is created in FL-Studio 5.0 (formally known as Fruity Loops). It is all synthetic so some of it sounds a little rough but like I said we need to start somewhere.
Most of the stuff is in the 20-30 second range because I tend to start stuff and then move on to something else when I get bored with what I am working on (I have almost 200 of these things) ... so some of this stuff cuts off in the middle.
I tried to upload a range of styles with some of it metal and some not however just 10 minutes of stuff took up 25mb so I stopped there for now.
I have included four .gp4 files (http://www.guitar-pro.com/en/index.php) from the four pieces best suited to be played on guitar ... if anyone wants to try their hand at it. I am sure it would sound better than the current synth guitar.
http://s22.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2...21H2EJCBJUYOYA
Here is the file hosted on you-send-it. You send it hosts files for seven days or X (25?) number of downloads so grab it soon. I hope we can get a better long-term host set up.
---edit---
Oh and please comment on it or at least tell me if you downloaded it and listened to it.

I'll gladly do a vocal part. I'll send a sample to whoever feels inclined to store it. Yea, I'm totally up for multiple vocalists. X7 Lat 7x is good at mellow, Rochey is good too. We could get some good chorus going here.

You are missing the point tyro. It is not that you need a .wav file just to have one but because it is higher-quality than a .mp3. If you convert an .mp3 into .wav in audacity it will still sound like the .mp3 because that is a lossy format.

But for try outs it won't be a big deal. Quality matters for the final product. Besides, The Patient is too high for me, I did the Grudge. So, whoever can host, I'll send.

This could be interesting if the idea actually gets off the ground. I think we should start off by sharing some musical ideas around. I recorded some spur of the moment ideas this afternoon and put them up on angelfire. Feel free to build on them or rework them post them up somewhere so we can get as many perspectives as possible. The site is http://www.angelfire.com/ab9/sketch

Please don't joke. NIN is definitely not a "band" worth covering.

Just recorded another idea which might have potential for an intro or something. Hopefully I'll get some time to develop these later today.

i just picked me up a vintage casio cz-101 synthesizer, so im eager to play some stuff. i can pull of amazing industrial, NINesque distortion when i play through my metal zone pedal...not that i really wanna take all these people and do NIN covers. cmon, lets write something original...
unfortunately i just got it today so im not capable of recording just yet. im gonna start another thread and hopefully get some advice on how to get that done.

Hey, I just put up a few more ideas. I recorded them on my computer instead of my mp3 player so the sound a bit better quality than the ones I put up previously.

I have some random riffs and stuff; if someone gives me a site to upload at I'll post some synth recordings.

well i just figured we'd learn how to mix and match audio by starting off doing covers- they already have song structure, tempo, key signature, before we run into completely creating something new. just a suggestion-im up for anything.

Unfortunately I have real bands, and most song ideas I want to use for them...
Sorry InnerCombustion... if you need me to lay a bassline down or something, just PM me, and i'll see what I can do.
