Wrong thread for me, my bad. This song isn't finished but it's okay so far...I don't know...plus the mixing and stuff is off too but that's irrelevant.

What the hell? You guys are all about creativity and originality here, who's one to say what is and what isnt art? If I fucked around on a guitar for two minutes and repeatedly played just one riff followed by one chord, then made some bullshit noise on a guitar, would that be a song?

You could enter it in the guitar contest, probably. Or, as was the case here, the static contest.

Half of nothing is still nothing.
Seriously, I mean I guess I have no place telling you it isn't art, but it sucks no matter what label you decide to give it.

No, really, its like those "artists" who enter blank canvases into contests, so deep people who appreciate "art" can stare at it for hours with their one arm folded across their chest and the other resting on it, holding their chin, and think its really fucking profound. Like I said, "Make a statement!"

WTF? MP3 costs? Anyway, Musepack is even better than Ogg, but I assumed there were some lame-o-tronic Mac users in the bunch and no Musepack player exists for OS X, so I left it out.
Everybody needs to download Foobar2000 (for listening) and dBpowerAMP Music Converter. The former is the least resource intensive audio player available (that actually uses a GUI), and the latter is the most indispensable audio conversion tool on the planet. Both are free.

It gets old. You see a lot of self-righteous bullshit in architecture. For example, I recently got an email about a new thing called "Architalkture", which is basically a thesaurus for arch. students that replaces a stupid sounding idea with the exact same thing, but worded so that it sounds artistic.
An example:
-- Interested in storytelling as a way of representing the city?
Instead, state that you are "fascinated with the idea of the narrative
as text – as a kind of text to be mapped onto the page that is urban
form."
-- Proposing any walls that meet at an oblique angle? Why not
reference them as "a deployment of the Deleuzian fold, a gesture that
reveals the history of its construction through its own actuality?"
See? Total bullshit.

Yes, MP3 costs. It is a proprietary format. I record using Ntrack Studio ( http://ntrack.com/), and you have to pay extra for mp3 support. Hence, I went with Vorbis.
I've heard of dBpowerAMP, but I haven't gotten around to checking it out... maybe I will.

It's free. Elevate knows where to find it, although a quick search for it should turn it up. It's really the best conversion program around.

MP3 is an open format based on standards set forth by the Motion Picture Experts Group (MPEG). MP3 = MPEG-1 audio layer 3. Some encoders cost, but LAME, which is the best, is free and comes with dBpowerAMP.

An example:

Instead, state that you are "fascinated with the idea of the narrative

-- Proposing any walls that meet at an oblique angle? Why not
reference them as "a deployment of the Deleuzian fold, a gesture that
reveals the history of its construction through its own actuality?"
See? Total bullshit.

OL's song was the epitome of entertaining. You got my vote man. If sending shivvers down my spine and making me laugh is self-righteous bullshit, then I fear for the future of music.

OftenLosts song sounded better than most anything on mtv or the radio I have to give him that but like I said before it sounded too much like a NiN rip-off. ... he still got my vote!

Oh yeah, I forgot about lame. What was I thinking then? Oh, wasn't the original mp3 encoder owned by some German company or something? I don't remember/care I guess. Anyways, ogg is still better. My .ogg file is less than 1 meg with about the same quality as my .mp3 file( http://meh.is-a-geek.com) which is over 3 megs I think.

I was making fun of all the static effects NiN uses.

Well anyway I have put up a song over at
It is just a guitar, it is not multi-instrumental because I felt drums or a bass would only distract from the sound. However I do believe it does meet the songwriting criteria because it has a clear start, middle, interlude, more middle, and end. If I need to add drums or something to have this qualify I will but come on this is for fun we do not need to be Nazi-like about the rules.
I did not put this in the guitar battle thread because it is a synth-guitar (keyboard maybe?) that I wrote in FL Studio 5 (formally known as Fruity Loops).
As you can tell from the name of the song it is influenced by Hendrix's Little Wing. This song has some very complex progression it is not just one simple riff jammed out.

OftenLost, I challenge you to a static contest. Percussion and other instruments permitted but not overwhelming of the static, and no more than 40 seconds long.
