I have just began this morning at looking at the soundwaves of 10000 days on audio editing software (goldwave). I plan to string all the songs together to get a graphic representation of peaks and overall song and album structure. I want to do this to compare the album to lateralus and aenima, album to album, and some song to song.
I am not finished but will probably be later today.
Just wondering if I should go to the trouble of hosting the images and posting them here to dsicuss. let me know if the forum is interested.
for a taste, here is vicarious.

could be interesting? because we have ears we could just listen to the songs instead of having to represent them graphically and then look at them, but whatever. if you wanna do it then i will look at the songs and say something like, 'wow the songs get louder. its like they peak or something. weird.'

I'm aware we're not going to find any hidden meanings by looking at the song structure, but it will be interesting for me to see the album as a whole. it represents the pacing and overall flow of the album.
plus, it makes a whole lot more sense than making a graph of the track times.

graphing the track times doesn't really mean anything. it doesn't tell you where the loud bits are and stuff. if you've already done the wave thingo i would be interested to see it.

I was unaware they had already done the waveforms as well in the track time thread, it was half way down the page.

It would be interesting from a production perspective, to look at how much this album is compressed versus previous albums (which it is much more).
