A return to Mr. Bottrill for the new record? This makes me a very, very happy person.
Yeah that's what I'm hoping too. Perhaps Bottrill wasn't a fan of the gong before so it's more of an inside joke, but hopefully it's a hint to upcoming recording.
I think the general consensus out there is that the Bottrill produced recordings are certainly Tool's best. Bottrill just has a knack at capturing all the little sonic details Tool produces without getting completely overrun by excessive distortion and compression. I think 10K Days suffered without Bottrill at the helm. The band opting to self-produce instead while using Evil Joe as the Engineer/Mixer and outsourcing the mastering to some dude in Maine was an error. These songs are powerful live, but the album doesn't capture the depth and power properly...too much distortion and overdrive. I think we're in for a return to perfection with a Bottrill/Tool collaberation. Bring it on!
I gotta get Joe Barresi's back here. 10K Days production is a sign of the times, not a representation of Joe's capability. Joe makes beautiful sounding records.
Secondly, that "some dude" they outsourced to Maine was Bob Ludwig, who not only is one of the best mastering engineers of all time, he mastered all the other TOOL records as well.
Believe me, the new record will be just as loud as 10K Days, if not worse. Afterall, it is 2009 now, and not 2006.
If anything, more than sonic quality, I look forward possibly to a return to whatever it is that Bottrill brought to the table in terms of content.(although the band denies him having any involvement in the song structures themselves).
Interesting.
I have not once been interested in checking the production credits or recording engineers since Undertow.
I liked the B Horror/ Simple mechanisms used to capture that album.
Aenima was well recorded, though for a long time I hated its 'stuffiness'.... the details did indeed still shine through, in brilliant textures and nearly hidden hooky parts.
I dislike the lack of subtle flex in the latest two albums.
I dislike feeling like I am listening to a more interesting Dream Theatre or even worse, Iron Maiden album. BLECH!
Now, I give credit where it is due: Irom Maiden makes money, and Dream Theater is a very talent-laden device, and I can APPRECIATE AND ENJOY them sometimes,
but damnit,
I want my tool all off- kilter/ less than perfect/ and such.... not all " i can appreciate the talent' and shxt.
which brings me to this point:
I think there is a bit of genius in the last two recordings...
When I have had access to superior sound reproduction equimpment,
I have been able to EMULATE the feel or vibe of the older albums, FROM WITHIN the mix of the newer ones.
I wonder what a True Studio Owner/Audiophile with the equipment and love would say?
Oh well.
Poop.
Um,
while I am not getting off much on the last two albums,
I can understand them, and appreciate them.
But damnit,
that is not why I fell in love with this band.
I fell in love with this band because this band, TOOL, did everything I ever wanted to do with my music, and damn near did it well enough to make me quit: (instead I did drugs for 10 years suffering from depression related to not creating the band tool before they did), but I have perseverred(spelling), and now march forward.
in less than 365 days,
I will be proficient in composing music with simple paper and writing tool,
which I am working towards just to make my guitar work so deep and my guitar playing toolbox so full,
that I may simply get in front of people, or in a soundbooth,
and spontaneously erect perfect chunks of whatever-the-fuck-comes-to-mind-within-the-borders, or create improvisational composition of great vision at a whim, and at will;
of course,
in order to attract the best in the known cosm/universe/metacosm/energy field we know of as life on Earth, to do something to PAY HONOR TO These Prior Masters!
Shit, if it were not for TOOL, I would have joined Marilyn Manson in '95...(long story)
anyway:
my $0.02.
I want, nay, DEMAND, this next TOOL album crush all doubters, all enemies, torch all expectations, shit upon all radio conglomerates,(spelling?)
and create a new world order for the next 10 years, (till I take over.)

Why yes I do, I saw the original P4P tour back in 94 (the only tour with Bubba Carr). And I made this avatar from the only video available on youtube that had the clown in it.
Bonus trivia for you, The Embryo: Who did Bubba Carr tour with that made him kinda famous after the P4P tour?
Without googling it of course....
You stumped me! Back in the day I had the good fortune to hang with Perry and Pete when they were writing Good God's Urge (down in Encinitas, Ca.) They were so excited to play Woodstock!! I flew out from san Diego to see them and it was one of the best experiences of my life! (still to this day)
So I'm a PF and PD fan, and not a Bubba fan, only because I'm not familiar with him...
"Yeah Tool is fucking amazing. But there’s a big chunk of their fan base that think they’ve become thought provoking geniuses just from listening to them."
Sweet. Puscifer in Oakrannnddddd, THE WHISTLES GO WOOOO WOOOOOOO!
I'm assuming this is through ticketbastard right ya'll?
Fuck Maynard - he fucked up the last tour so bad its not even funny....I would love to see the others move on, and create some new original sounding material, but that probably won't happen....
With "PussyFur" Uncle Pappy May May's vocals are akin to the sound your dad might make while humming to himself while vacuuming. Its complete bullshit - there is nothing special about it - and the fact that people clamor over it is fucking nonsense.
Maynard Keenan is an anagram of 'A Mannered Yank'
DONT GIVE HIM ANY MORE MONEY FOR HIS HALF ASSED "PRODUCTS"
Danny Carey is unfailingly brilliant and deserves to work with a fucking MOTIVATED singer that gives a fuck - not a selfish little bitch/fish that would rather squash grapes like a french duke.

just get rid of the guy that doesn't care anymore. He's dead fucking weight at this point - hopefully he doesn't ruin the next album with his bullshit.
Although, your right...it would be fucking badass to see him get together with some great musicians and make something so fresh it would make you forget all about "The Mannered Yank"
Danny Carey - Dennis Chambers - John Mclaughlin - Jonas Hellborg - - - that combo would probably rattle the fillings out of your head.
Danny Carey - Tim Alexander- Dweezil Zappa - Les Claypool is another one that just popped in my head...
as you can see, I think the concept of pairing 2 great drummers together would work wonders.
hey new here sorry if i make any errors, what are peoples opinions on the progession of the next album compared to the others? i doubt it would be any darker than 10,000 Days but does any one beilive it will be as up lifting as Lateralus? idk just wondering

I promise you this:
The new album will make Undertow seem like a stroll through a spring field in the sunlight of burgeoning flowers of various variety.
The new album will have extreme examples of mastery of tone, technical ability,
but also the full sound spectrum will be explored,
from 5HZ to 50,000HZ.
So sayeth the golden eye'd one.
MWHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
I would add 'eat shit and die' to the end of this message,
but that's just my joker-style-wit-charm at work,
and it would be rude.
i have no qualm with, or any thing against,
you or anyone else here.
Im just sayin'.
I dont live the lifestyle any longer,
nor really ever did. When Jay Z came to my 'buddy's" house before a local concert,
I figured I was in deep enough to quit: so I did.
but yeah:
most touring musicians that are 'content with their one week tours and selling little merch', are living the cocaine lifestyle:
so thats's what it is.
:)

It means that many touring 'bands' are just a front or facade underneath which,
or through which,
massive amounts of cocaine and other substances are transported across the nation.

If anyone missed their chance to pick up a Mr. X tour poster this summer, they're available again at toolband. The price is now $15. https://www.toolband.com/catalog/

What kind of seats are they? Considering they put on a "different" show each night it's a pretty good deal unless it's like the last row or something...

they're very good seats (first 10-15 rows) for the fox show in oakland. but i gotta say: i tried buying a pair of seats for one show, and I got seats off to the side. Tried again, same thing. Go back and try for '2 day passes' and miraculously, i get center seats. It was a festivas miracle.

Interesting...thanks!
I'm going to SD for Halloween and that show.......... but it would be crazy to miss a show in my back yard..
